Fascinating, as always. There's just something about these abandoned or forgotten places. The piano is sad. Every dumped or abandoned old piano was somebody's pride and joy at one time. Somebody saved their money to buy it, invested time and effort into learning to play it, and maybe generations of kids took lessons on it. Today it's almost impossible to give them away. I guess that's progress?

Yea, I wouldn't take a piano for free yet was offered several times. I can't handle once by myself nor ever have room to have something like that. Only a homeowner with a nice spacious house keeps one. There are still piano tuning services and even violin crafting shops in Utah for those are used in Mormon youth groups playing classical music and for churches. Everything crafted, owned, and used by people does end up in the scrapheap of history except a very few items in museums and very high level private collections held by old money families.

You described so well the sadness of seeing this discarded part of former lives - once treasured and valued. In my 60s now, I remember those times - small town Christmas concerts where a piano would be the only accompaniment. It was a time of simplicity after which most thought they were leaving to go on to something bigger and better. There is no going back, but there is a definite realization that what we had back then was a blessing in many ways.

I live here in Southeast Pennsylvania, and every single week on letgo- offer-up, there is LITERALLY 10-15 FREE PIANOS AVAILABLE TO ANYONE WHO WANTS THEM, SIMPLY DRIVE AND PICK UP. IT'S RIDICULOUS,. Today's generation of kids wouldn't know what to do with one ,,, IF YOU COULD PRY THEM AWAY FROM BULLSHIT VIDEO GAMES OR THEIR CELL PHONES. WE ARE RAISING GENERATIONS OF USELESS ZOMBIES

@@ellebelle8515 It saddens me to see that too. Almost everyone in my family including cousins, aunts and uncles had pianos. My mother loved to play hers. I felt so guilty after my mom passed and could not take her piano because I did not have enough space in the smaller condo where I moved. I did some serious downsizing. High mortgages, assessments, taxes, and not making the money to barely afford the basics. Times are hard!

I love trains also having been born and raised in a railroad town(Burlington, Iowa) also like it when the train goes straight through the middle of the town instead of just being tangential to a town. My hope is that this country can bring back train travel to all parts of the country not just the big cities. When I was 8 (1955)I took a train trip with my school chums from Burlington to Gailsburg and back on one of the old steam driven locomotives. It was a real fun adventure. It is a highlight from youth. Adam see if you can find some more train stuff like you did on your previous vlog. This one was 2 thumbs up.

Fun Fact: Transylvania is a term that used to be given to large forested areas (it's actual meaning) and used to show up on maps for those regions. At one point Kentucky was going to be named Transylvania (we have an excellent college with that name). Good to see Adam on the road again! Hope the reason for the trip is a positive one.

My Father and Grandmother were ethnic Germans from Transylvania. It is a beautiful area. The Germans ( Saxons) called it Siebenbuergen And they were know as Translyvanian Saxons

I love these backroad trips. I was raised in a small town and my dad and granddad were small business owners. They served on the town council and were members of the Chamber of Commerce. Except for major things, mainly medical related, you could live in a small town your entire life and never have to leave. Those old abandoned stores provided a good middle class life for many people, and gave a sense of community to the surrounding area. All gone now.

I am quite shocked that you came our way! We do not get this attention ever! i was born in Delhi Louisiana and raised in Lake Providence La which is outside of Transylvania! I moved away when i was 18 and my husband was a career Marine when he retired we moved back and now live in Goodwill Louisiana which is a village outside of Oak Grove Louisiana! I love traveling the back roads and the country roads of America, seeing new places, seeing new things and meeting new people too. Do it as much as I can and if funds allow. I own an RV, (not a trailer). My favorite book is called "Blue Highways: by Least Heat Moon. Yes, that's a real name of a real person who traveled 13,000 around the U.S and wrote a book about it. "Blue" highways are the blue lines on a map that are secondary or back roads. And I love this video and want to see more.

My commute takes me past Snuffy's and I probably passed through there about an hour before you did. Snuffy's used to be a gold mine back in the day because everyone in George County, MS would drive across the state line to buy beer because George is still a dry county. Thankfully the police department in Wilmer shut down years ago so the speed trap no longer exists.

The town of "Hot Coffee" Mississippi is mentioned in the movie "The Coca-Cola Kid". First time I heard of the town and my family is from Mississippi. My grandfather owned a general store in Anse. He died back in 1984. It has been abandoned since then.

That river basin was just on the Science Channel the other night. Took over 6 years to build and took almost a year to set it up to simulate a flood. You're correct about the numbers on the slabs.

The town of Transylvania was on LA state highway 65 north of I-20. Delhi, LA is on I-20 and Epps, LA is on LA state highway 17 north of Delhi. Hope this helps.

I love these small backwoods towns. Although I have traveled through most states, I've never been to the deep south. This really reminds me of North eastern Ontario, Canada. So many backwoods towns. Many you can't find on any maps. Some so small they still have wooden bridges and dirt roads. Thank you for uploading this video! I have to admire Snuffy who, back in the day, posted all of those “No Smoking” signs around his gas pumps. When I moved to Missouri I pulled into a Casey’s gas station to fill up and I noticed a staff member with a lit cigarette on a break leaning against the metal cage that holds all of the propane tanks for bbq grills. These are located about 20’ from the gas pumps. Oh well, nothing to worry about here!

I was at a truck stop not too far from Saltillo on a hot, muggy, overcast day. Suddenly the doors of the restaurant fly open and a bunch of drivers come running out, heading for their rigs and pulling out. That's when I found out that Mississippi sometimes has tornadoes. It turned out OK, the storm didn't come our way, and Mississippi was still one of our favorite places to go. Really nice people, and GREEN EVERYWHERE.

It was always my dream to come to your Country from UK and travel the road you are travelling. I love these videos and your comments. I am fascinated by it all and really enjoy it. There is nothing better than see History and how people lived.

My mother told stories of how she and her siblings would travel from Pennsylvania to Florida most summers. Her father was too cheap to buy a car with AC. They would ride through the remains of the old south with old shacks by the road where people still lived. Old gas stations and old cars. Hot! I have been to the South quite a bit. I do not know how people survived without AC much less working in a field all day! It is brutal. Fall and winter are the best times to visit the Deep South.

Most enjoyable! I am wondering now if some of these sad little echos of towns might have a renaissance once rural wifi is improved? The recent work from home" model has revamped how things are done in a huge way so that people really can do their jobs just about anywhere. Someone with a job in Mobile or Birmingham could retreat to Hot Coffee and snag some cheap land and raise his or thiei kids in a place where they could have 4 dogs and a pony and run wild when they aren't glued to their phones and games. Breath a little. Skip the commute but drive in to the home office once or twice a month for in person meetings. It's beautiful there!

@@johngreen3543 Whoa, not yet. It still needs to clear the Senate and then hit his desk and then, of course, be set in motion! I'm completely and utterly for it, mind you. My beloved has been working on rocket ship navigation systems from home for 20 months so it absolutely can be done with flying colors. We don't have some dairy cows, a few horses, some geese, a couple of 4 x 4's and so on but if we were younger with kids at home . . .

I like many who have already commented enjoy every second of these abandoned/ back road adventures... My take and enjoyment from these videos is to respect and remember a simpler time for those that came before us and paved the way for us... Thanks for the amazing video Adam
