Microwaves are a fast and easy way to get food ready to eat at the push of a button. But we found dozens are firing up without the push of a button, creating a kitchen fire hazard.

everyone saying they unplug their microwave anytime not using must have counter versions. mine is over stove and with vent connection,. plug is in high cabinet near ceiling. not getting on a chair and digging in cabinet to unplug every time. sheesh

get a power strip and position switch near the door , thats what we do just reach up and turn on and off when not in use

Mine is above my stove too, Amana. I can't even see or find the cord without taking the microwave down and its installed on brackets. Its not going anywhere.

We had a travel trailer plugged in, in our yard. We happened to be in the yard and heard something running in there. It was our samsung microwave that started by itself. It was just getting hot when we found it. It was less than a year old.

Samsung products are notorious for having numerous issues with their appliances. Appliances aren’t made like they used to be. I’ll never purchase Samsung products after reading all the reviews.

My moms turns on when the door is just cracked open. It's a design flaw. Also Samsung.

Omg! I put my microwave, & toaster oven on a power strip and turns it off every night. Unplug my coffee maker and rice cooker once I finished.

I had a microwave that caught on fire. The fire was in the wiring in the machine so I couldn't put it out in the house. I had to carry a burning microwave outside and drop it on the ground. I used a fire extinguisher and hose to put it out.

Omg! I just saw this video this morning!! My Sharp which is only a year and a half old yesterday evening started by itself while I was in the kitchen. It's a good thing I was home. I immediately unplugged it! No smoke or anything though was coming out. I rent an apartment so will be calling management to come get it.

This Morning on 5/6/2023 the same thing happened to me and fortunately I was home and awake cause it started like around 5 this morning and I did the same thing unplugged it and went out and bought a new one immediately.

I don't eat meat anymore but when I used to I bit into a taco bell beef taco and broke my tooth. I bit into a piece of bone from a cow. I was told by taco bell, that to my satisfaction they would pay for my tooth... it was 100% their fault and they just don't like to admit from of fault. BTW if you eat any beef or animals, the fda allows any part of that animal to be grinded up as ground meat and you eat it. That bones, tissues, eyes, skin, cancer, tumors. They allow it all to be grinded as long as it will fit through a specific size hole in a grinder. Companies these days are cutting every corner they can and it shows in their products

My husband and I had a Frigidaire and it was coming on and not shutting off! We just took it out and put a whirlpool one in its place, and that was 2 months ago. Yeah starting on its own and staying on...we got rid of it immediately

I thought mine was doing that too, the fan would come on and I couldn't shut it off. It turns out its a safety feature when the the stove below gets too hot, the microwave turned itself on, fan only, I thought it was broken because I've never seen that before.

In 1987, we got our first microwave... Slammed the door for years... In 2012, my dad gave it away.. Still working... This makes NO SENSE.

Exactly! Lol. Those old microwaves lasted forever! My parents got one back in the 80s and it lasted until atleast 2010.

I used to be a GE appliance repairman in the 80s and 90s and I can tell you up until about 1994 GE made some great appliances and they were built to last. New microwaves are built and designed to break as soon as the warranty runs out forcing you to buy a new one. This should be against the law but of course it is not. Back in those days the GE Appliances were made in America in Louisville kentucky. After stupid Clinton enacted NAFTA the greedy Executives at GE decided to start making their appliances in Mexico and from there the entire product line went downhill. It is a shame because General Electric used to mean something.

Slamming the doors causing this is nonsense! It is a software glitch, which likely is caused by a defective circuit board. 90 units out of the hundreds of millions of units is inconsequential. Surprised Samsung didn't simply give her another one. I will NOT buy a Samsung microwave! Stick with USA brands like GE, Westinghouse, Honeywell, etc.

If I close mine too hard it will start up even if there is nothing selected. We rent and “ours” is a GE. Oh also I have never ever “slammed” the door… & we had it replaced as a brand new item when we moved in… 🤔 I never told maintenance maybe I should *that tip regarding a bowl of water is a great idea gonna use it too 😉 🙏🏼

Anything electrical emits radiation.... the breaker box emits radiation... the wires to your house emit radiation... your phone against your head is less safe than all of those things. We can't escape all of these things. Oh and breast cancer is usually in one breast instead of other bc most people sleep on a certain side and springs in mattress carry or amplify signal... radiation is everywhere and it's usually safe... the sun is creating radiation, too.

All microwaves use door switches. If one goes bad, weird things happen like the machine turning on by itself as soon as you close the door. Luckily switches are $5 each at most. Just replace all 3 switches and everything will be fine.

I had a sharp microwave that I bought 3 years ago and this morning it started up by itself fortunately I was up and home at the time and I googled the problem and the control board will suddenly go bad and it will cause this issue as well. I got rid of it and bought a new one but a different brand.

My Panasonic 1200 that I got from Costco in May worked well until last week... Just stopping in the middle of heating soup, restarting no codes making clicking noises just odd so I unplugged that.
