I check out the rotary toolpath CAM function in Fusion 360. It is in some kind of beta-stage and I show you where to find it. Of course something need to be machined using the rotary toolpath.

Stunning. Well worth the effort to build the 4th axis and sort out the Z. Excellent

Hi! Great video! I want to ask you one more thing. how did you do 3d adaptive clearing from different positions by enabling the fourth axis?

Why am I just being told about this? It is a good think you made this video, otherwise I would never have known.

Another great video and some detective work in Fusion! Just a question for you, is there a way to offset the ball end mill in F360 so it cuts sideways? That might speed up the process.

This might be a standard feature now, at least it is in the Hobby license. I run it on a Sherline mill with a 4th axis rotary table. Mine doesn't do stepdowns, so there is possibly more to come.

Hi MetalMusings, Thanks for the great overview. I am just getting my 4th axis setup. I have managed to get some good toolpaths using 'Rotary' as you have described here. The simulations look really good. The problem I have is with the post processor output. I am setting up to use a DDCSV2.1 controller ( supposed to be Fanuc compatible )to drive the CNC machine, just testing it off the machine at this time. I have tested several PP's so far and none of them output usable gcode. What PP did you use to get your G-code ? Thanks Tim

Great demo! I hate those damned extensions. The good stuff used to be free for those of us who just like to play. Now they play with our emotions!

Looks like the tool degraded about 1/4 of the way up the part and thats why it didn't remove previous tool marks. With tools that small it's mandatory to indicate tool runout and eliminate it by tapping it around in the collet with soft piece of bar above the flutes. As a rule every thou of runout decreases tool life by 10% and probably a lot more with a tool that small. ATB

This is interesting. You do mean tool shank/shaft run-out right? (So above the flutes where one should tap) or do you mean to measure the difference between the cutting edges?

@@DC_DC_DC_DC Search "Measure & Fix Tool Runout! WW113 " on YT. He explains it clearly.

It degraded too fast, it lasted only an hour. Could be the quality of that tool as well, ebay stuff (which mostly works very good for me).
@Steve_Just_Steve4 жыл бұрын
@@metalmusings I think it'd last a lot longer if you tried to correct any runout similar to whats in the vid I commented.

@@metalmusings Great Video. My view on the small ball mill, run out is without doubt going to be a factor but even during the last 25% of the path, when its lost its edge, you could see the tool deflecting, maybe add an additonal rough pass with a 1mm ball first would help. Looks like the 0.50 ended up rest roughing rather than finishing

Just to let you know - I just tested the Autodesk 'Funuc with A axis' post processor and it appears to work. We will see when I get the controller fitted to the machine.

Thanks for the feedback. I have actually edited my post processor for linux. I found that the motion was very jerky and via forumposts at autodesk I understood why and could fix it. But great to know there is a good starting point for anyone else trying. I wonder how long the rotary toolpath will be available. After the video was uploaded I think they have imposed a 30 day trial period. So it might not work for too long. On the other hand they refer to a degenerated multi-axis toolpath for 4 axis operations. Again that doesn't work, at least not yet.

lol I have that same problem with fusion cam. Aluminum you say... 4 flutes you say.. Let me just dive 8mm straight in then.
