Lauren made a short video of this in her stairwell to scare the neighbours, and VoicePlay decided they had to have her in this. Layne flew out to where she was to record and film her on green screen to add in to the video. As you say they are very lucky in having a wide circle of great singer friends to call on for specific songs. Eli ( rhynes with jelly, or belly perhaps) used to sing with rock bands, hence his terrific belting tenor voice. His plink plink a plink plink sound to me like a banjo but then I grew up with banjo players. :) And yes they normally don't use any instrumentation , from memory I think only in Warriors have they added violins, Whereas Geoff uses plug ins on his solo videos.

I can guarantee that I will be here for anything VoicePlay or Geoff Castellucci.

I love switching between Maniac Eli in Hoist the Colours or My Mother Told Me, and Crooner Eli in Tennessee Whiskey. Could not believe it was the same guy the first time I watched those.

Eli also does Sandy Claws in Oogie Boogie Song. Eli's a fantastic voice actor. They all do. Helps that they live in Orlando Florida and all have performed shows at Universal Studios and Disney World. That's why they dress up, sing clear and do great voice acting. They're known as both The Theater Kids and Kings of Halloween.

Other groups have tried but none of them can come close to what Voice Play does. They do 99% of everything they do. Voice Play are a total package. They never have any copyright issues because they are their own production company.

Geoff's final note at the end was a THICK, yet subtle C#1 subharmonic. That's the beauty of VoicePlay's arrangements; they change it up and don't keep it repetitive. I have seen VoicePlay live and they are just as good working without a net, so to speak.

You've been, among all the people I watched reacting to this song, the only one who identified what Eli does at about 3'10" of your reaction as a "fake bass". 🙂 I'm so glad that someone shares my interpretation of that, a "vocal slap bass"... I thought I was alone in that! 😆. Nice reaction, nice comments about what they do in the song, things to be learned (for me, at least). I'm subscribing, so that I won't miss other reactions to VP and Geoff... 🙂 See you next time! 🙂

I love Voiceplay more than the others.. Elizabeth Zharoff (the charasmatic voice reactor) who is singing operatic backing vocals part way through also interviewed Layne and Geoff. Both shared some arrangement magic. It's worth looking at those... Lauren is known as the staircase siren and is famous for terrifying her neighbours with this song.. FYI Eli is pronounced Ellee. Like jelly as I've seen others describe.... Have you seen in the hall of the mountain king? Soooooo much fun. Also dream on Tennessey whiskey. 😊They have also done phantom of the opera with Rachel Potter.. It's an early one but really good... Their previous tenor Tony Wakim is phantom... Subscribing in anticipation of more Voiceplay and Geoff. ❤️🇬🇧

No one can do theatrical acapella like VoicePlay. Great analysis! Hope to see more reactions to their work. Some are epic. Some are sweet. Some are hilarious. They are all well done.

Hi, I enjoyed your reaction to this, and I agree with you in wanting a peek at the charts. Lauren does creepy so beautifully and the first song of hers I heard was a scary lullaby sung in that infamous and very lively stairwell. About a week +/- a day or three, Voice Play dropped, In The Hall Of The Mountain King, which is an entertaining journey in story telling without words.

They have done several pieces called part work. They did the recording but they also made the sheet music available. I knew about Kiss, Any Way You Want It, Mr. Blue Sky, O Little Town of Bethlehem, Still Alive, Death Of a Bachelor, Ride, Everywhere You Look, Love Yourself, Tennessee Whisky. Some, but not all, of these are on a playlist on their channel called part work. There may be others as well. Tennessee Whiskey isn’t on the playlist but it is listed as part work in their description. I don’t have any musical training, but I was intrigued by the idea that they made this available to people. Since you have watched and listen to a lot of VoicePlay it’s hard to do a reaction. But you might want to consider what others have done in doing an analysis. For those of us without musical training it’s really helpful to hear someone who has that training and experience to explain and point out things that people like me would miss. Subscribing in hopes that you follow through with a little bit more of my favorite singers. You might also check out the Bass Gang if you have not done so they have some fantastic work even though they’re still new and spread out over three different countries. (I haven’t checked out your back catalogue yet so I’m not sure if you’ve done them).

Love you reaction. Just an FYI, Eli is pronounced Ellie or L-E (like rhyming with jelly). It is short for Eliezar, not Elijar, hence the difference in pronunciation.

@@grieverproductions2022 It’s a common and understandable error. It’s taken me a while to now think of it as El-Lee because you hear the other pronunciation commonly.

Eli is actually pronounced so it rhymes with jelly. Layne also has a video on the vocal percussion and how he processes it.

In their old partwork series they wrote out the arrangements and made them available on request - they may be willing and able to make one of those available to you.

That was a long time ago and only did it for patchwork. They don't do that because it takes too much work. And they already have Alot on their plates. They don't even have them for themselves. Alot of hard work in their arrangements.

@@jackyfriedman1963 I know it's a lot of work - that's why I suggested they might still have one of the old ones around.

Seriously liked your reaction to Tommy and very much like this reaction to VoicePlay as well. Know I need you to react to The Bass Gang as well. They have also recorded this very song with Lauren Paket. It's equally good but quite different take of the song. This version by VP has voice over by The Charismatic Voice. She is the glitting Ghosts at the end. She has also Stone än interview on ger channel with both Geoff and Layne, separately. With Layne they dissect together his arrangment of the Moana medley. He has also helped her learning beatboxing. A talent she displays in her video of Pour Unfortunate Souls. A video well worth watching and reaction to.

Lauren Paley (known as the stairwell siren) sings this song as well as others in the stairwell.. her version is a nice one to compare with... also "The Bass Gang" Also teamed up with Lauren to do a version so that gives you 3 separate versions you can compare all accapella all with Lauren doing a large part of the singing so that might make an interesting video comparison of what you can do with the same original song that was produced by Ho-ong-i, and performed by VOCALOID SeeU. (in Korean) then converted to English in 2014
