One critical reason for public playtesting: Quality Of Life. No developer knows which controls are and aren't frustrating for his audience. For example, since my game uses an 8-directional variation of WASD controls, I discovered from feedback that some parts of my audience need consideration for AZERTY and QWERTZ keyboards.
