After a couple months of confusion after finishing devilman crybaby, and not being sure where to place it, I think I figured out the point of devilman cry baby. I can explain what I think is it's most important message. Some positivity in the seemingly nihilistic message of Devilman Crybaby.

I think what is beautiful is the way at the end we find ourselves crying for Akira when his whole life he was crying for others (at the same time Ryo understand everything and cries too make it more hurtful) Idk if I am clear sorry

I have a theory for it. You know how he said you were crying too. When there were kids? And the devil didn’t understand. Well when Akira died he was crying. It had already happened. Now it’s going to happen again. The devil will be reborn.

@@achintyanaithani889 even without reading the manga and only watching the netflix adaptation, that was my first thought. Reincarnation and rebirth of the world is a wildly explored theme and spiritual topic and for some reason it hits so hard for me. The fact that Satan was born into ryo without his memories but the events of the show happened anyway just screamed to me that this was a cycle. Then you apply the judio-christian ideas and themes that the show is obviously exploring to it and you can come to the conclusion that this is HELL. Lucifer in christianity is the fallen angel that god casts into hell and becomes satan; the idea that Earth IS hell has been explored before but devilman crybabys twist on it is how exactly Earth is hell - for Ryo specifically he's doomed to this cycle in which he probably finds love again and again only to realize too late what it was and what it meant to him

@astortawa804
@astortawa804 Жыл бұрын
And I feel like the species difference is parallel, too. As a child, Akira, a human, cries over a dying kitten, which is a species considered less valuable or powerful than a human. Years later, Ryō, the very devil himself (who, in this case, is also considered an angel) cries over Akira, who is a mere half-devil in comparison. Probably not important, but I do like how Ryō realizes he has experienced and is experiencing love, loss, and emotional pain the same way we see Akira experience it as a kid: by losing the life of a younger, less experienced, and less powerful being. It’s just neat to me.

It's called Devilman Crybaby because it turns you into one by the end of it. It really makes you realise how ugly humanity is but how beautiful it can be at the same time. It makes me thankful for the things I have. Very underrated. I don't think anything I've watched has ever made me feel things that this anime did. This touched me on a level nothing else ever has. Why is Satan the only one eternally punished for trying to be god or more than god? Why do the greatest wills, loves, and plans lead to the greatest defeats, pains, and dead ends? Love the duality such beliefs bring and the insight that lead to ultimate paradoxes. It all ever leads me to the middle that we are not to learn but that everything comes out of us as we came out of it. Much agreed, this show blammed my brain.

Really late to this one but you missed a crucial scene after the credits of the final episode: We see the newly-formed Earth, but this time, with two moons. The moon represented Ryo: An outsider who can only orbit the world of humans, but never truly be a part of it. But after the final credits, we see that Ryo (the moon) is no longer alone. The second moon represents Akira’s spirit, who will forever be by Ryo’s side.

Whenever I think about this anime, leaving its awesome music aside, Miko and her death will always haunt me. She always was in second place for everyone, even to herself. No matter how much she tried, no matter how hard she trained, she would always be outshined and left aside. The story itself considers her a secondary character (according to the wiki), and even to the fanbase, she's sort of a secondary waifu. In her final moments, Miko stood strong, accepting her fate and facing the true monsters of her life: other people. Then it hit me: Sometimes, people are born and destined to not be the best. Sometimes, willpower alone is not enough to bend your destiny. You either accept that or run away from it, but no matter how much you run, it'll always catch up. One way or the other. That episode broke me. Damn, Devilman Crybaby is an awesome anime.

Devilman crybaby is actually a remake of a 90s anime named Devilman. While the first episode is the same as 90s original, the rest of the anime was director own take on the latest trend (kill the main guy at the end and blame everything on the World). There was actually no point to this, the original Devilman was a Hit so production thought that it would be nice if can profit over it. That's why you can notice the donkey sounds in certain episode of the latest adaptation. *Stop over exaggerating things before even looking into facts, why is it becoming a trend?*

Each and every one of them were chasing each other imo. Miko chased after Miki beacause she envied her. Miki chased after Akira because she thinks back to that moment where he stood up for he. Ultimately making Miki think he would be able to save her again(which makes her death even more painful 😭) Akira wad originally chasing after his parents but once they died he had to find something new to chase and at the end it had to be Ryo. Not only to get him to realize about love but to get him something to chase after in my eyes the baton was that. That’s why it kept getting dropped because Ryo himself didn’t know what he should be chasing after until it was already too late.

episode 9. I was so shock rendered by the deaths and their manner that I could not process them for a moment. when it happened, I paused the anime still unable to process what the actual hell just happened and After a few moments, I just cried, bawling my eyes out. I did catch the hint to a certain minor degree that they would die. But i purposefully put myself into denial, hoping that at least a few of them would survive.

This anime totally gutted me. The ending scene makes me SOB. When Ryo realized that he’s lost Akira. He’s so confused and shocked and suddenly so lonely. Nobody understood why I cried like a baby. The whole time Akira just loves him unconditionally and as a viewer you’re like “Why?! He’s so terrible!!”. To me, Akira was God’s love the whole time. The ending showed me that love can also be a painful lesson for everything in life.

what I'm about to say isn't really on topic of the show but is on topic of regretful fallen angels. Did a "light" dive into demonology and found out a few demons (probably far more) are in actuality fallen angels who have accepted their role as leaders of the countless lesser demon/evil spirits of Hell. But what caught my eye was the specific description for some of the fallen was how they yearned to returned to God and Heaven. It's never explicitly detailed if they're repentant of their sins or are just internally/physically suffering since they can't be where they actually belong. But while they're moping, we can't forget the possible (probable) majority of fallen angels are constantly waging spiritual warfare with humanity and other angels. But the thought that these powerful, immortal, and nigh-perfect beings were asking to be forgiven and wanting to go home for countless millennia is actually heartbreaking. Just had to get that info off my chest after seeing your comment.

I had to take a 5 min break after that one 5 sec scene. That was some truly heavy shit EDIT: The ending took every anime troupe that results in the turn around for the good guys and made them all fail. From Miki saying "I can do it" to her failing, Akira entrusting the rap kid to protect her, to the devilmen giving their bodies to Akira with no prevail, ep 10 was pure tragedy and it was horrifyingly beautiful

You know the scene where Miki dies and she says something about passing the baton on to Akira? That scene hit me hard and made me realize that Miko( miki) who died before Miki. Said that she loved her and did a baton pass hand gesture. Miki then continues to run and in her last moments before she died she was talking about passing the baton to Akira. I don’t know if this is real or has anything to do with it. But to me the baton symbolizes unconditional love. Miko ( Miki) passed that love to Miki which then got to Akira. And in the child Scene with Ryo the baton keeps on dropping. I think it’s symbolism or indication that, that unconditional love couldn’t reach him or that he couldn’t or didn’t want to accept it. It was until he lost Akira that he realized his love for him and the world “ restarted.” Maybe that Baton scene gave some clues or hints to how the whole cycle could end. Is that if Satan himself could learn to love or accept love into his heart, that’s why god put him there and is keeping him alive.

I see it of course as platonic because Ryo never was friends with people but Akira was always open to him. Ryo doesn’t understand the human heart, but he did trust Akira and Akira trusted him. But Ryo is blind. Just taking advantage of Akira and getting ready to throw him away. Then at the end when Akira is dead, Ryo realizes how when the silence settles it’s not as comfortable as he thought and longs for Akira, his closest friend that he betrayed for his own desires. Not gaining a response must have killed him

@@ahlogic5960 Agreeing with the other person here, you totally can read into it however you wish because love encompasses many things, platonic and romantic included. A big old "however", Ryo was *in* love with Akira, even in the original manga made back in the '70s. Akira was the only one he trusted and felt any real attachment to. He unconsciously made Akira a Devilman so he'd survive the purging and live on with him. It was never meant to be Ryo throwing him away, quite the opposite. I strongly dislike the 70s work around of blaming Satan loving Akira due to "being a hermaphrodite" -- the same goes for how Miki got whipped from being feisty to being defenseless and fawning once Akira got some Amon in him. Ugh.

It's pretty safe to say now that Devilman Crybaby is a masterpiece. I’ve seen many representations of this kind and none reached this level of talent. Everything about it makes you wonder your existence in this world and the meaning of it all. It's the only show that made me feel hopeless, happy, confused and amazed at the same time. Everything coming down to the whole story being a punishment for Satan, who now felt something for somebody...who thinks of these things? Seriously, amazing. I shall admire the writers. akira has been teaching ryo 'love' since they were kids. the repeated baton passing scene between mikis, akira and ryo made me think about the significance of human connection. how each of our actions, good or bad, all add up in the end and create change for someone. in that scene, the red baton symbolizes love and shows the disconnect between akira and ryo. even though it's clear that they care for each other, akira cant just get ryo to grasp his 'heart'. ryo did not understand relationships. how humans survive because of compassion, kindness, understanding and love. but then, like what's said in this video, it wasn't all for naught because that 'love' akira strongly possesses is what finally taught satan the impact of it all and what it truly means to love and lose someone. which might just be the key to changing the future of humanity. strangely, satan's tears that fell right above akira's heart in the end, can be called what we foolish humans cling to and inevitably believe in- hope.

I remember watching the entire series in a single sitting. I had just graduated high school when it came out. I remember, at the end, feeling a sense of deep, undeniable sadness. These interactions with all the humans gave depth to the story, and it hit harder and harder with each death. The story is bleak at the end, but I feel as if it may have told a story of hope as well. Hope that maybe we can become better, grow bigger and taller from our mistakes. At least, that's what I want to hope from it.

I know I'm very late to this but I wanted to elaborate on a theme that is often missed. The baton pass. For the longest time, it's just part of the races you see throughout the show but eventually, it becomes symbolic. When Miko is dying and she "passes the baton" to Miki. It's a transfer of love and pain. Then, despite her not making it, Miki does successfully pass the baton to Akira. During the climactic fight between Ryo and Akira we see his punches be equated to the baton pass. For a moment we don't know if the pass worked but at the end when Ryo is left sobbing over Akira's body, we know that the baton pass was successful. Ryo has received the love and pain that was given to him. He for the first time is feeling love and pain.

Fantastically put; I don't think I've seen any video discuss the baton pass visual metaphor, despite it being repeatedly and prominently used in the final scene. The baton pass, as you say, keeps failing...The image of young Ryo, unable to comprehend the human heart, in which he does not accept the baton pass from his loved ones. That is, until the anime's last moments, where, in the wake of his own wrongdoing, he experiences grief for the first time.

For me the ending and basically the last episode's pace was something like a dream . The constant change of events and scenery on other cases it would have been strange, but in this case it feels so natural and it keeps you in a high pace matching the pace of the anime once more. Every scene lasts as long as is needed and no more . Great ending to a great and very unique anime.

I first watched it in January 2018 when it came out, when I was in my second year of my BA, and it drove me to hone my studies of politics and history in on international relations, which I’m now doing my MA in. I am reading all of these comments about people crying and it made me feel like I didn't have a soul. Everything happened so fast, and nothing was foreshadowed so my reaction time is late af. The themes are definitely are sticking with me. I was happy to realize some of these points of view after watching, and discover new ones with this video. The anime itself creates this chaotic pace, and that's apart of our real life. Sometimes when chaos presents itself one is not prepared enough for all that follows with it, so I think this gave me that same experience. Thank you for the video. 😌💕

It's all about crowd control. Having a bunch of different thoughts are great but it's also a huge backlash. Even if we all settle our differences and continue on a path of productivity we will be like a hive mind, living a life of only being productive. Meaning that life, no matter which way it takes, will only result in misery. Life is hope and a curse at the same time. So? The path to happiness in life is to live a life you are satisfy with. On the other hand you can also choose to destroy life itself so existence will cease. That is why god forbid Eve and Adam to eat the apple of knowledge. Ignorance is a blessing.
