Agreed, tbh another thing people didn't get, that I really loved, was the fact akira could feel Ryo crying inside... He told him he's crying too when the cat died, ryo was incapable to understand. But at the very end after killing everyone and getting the taste of loneliness and emptiness Ryo realised that akira meant his suffering of being thrown from heaven and the loss of what he cared about but didn't realise it in time.

Ryo is in love with Akira, and his punishment is to "lose the one he loves" over and over. I love the ink blot thing so much because by the nature of them even being ink blots, you're naturally going to just see whatever in them without ever realizing they're actual characters. But then once you watch the show and you're familiar with these designs, you start picking up on what they actually are in such a way that you're never able to un-see the characters in that shot. Which is awesome because it both works as a device to keep the monster designs hidden and as symbolism for how people are unaware of the demons living among them until they reveal themselves.

DC was so fucking good I forgot Netflix made it. Devilman alone was one of the first manga i'd read due to my dad. Seeing the different takes of it I didn't think Netflix could handle or grasp all of what Devilman is. I was so wrong. I was wrong. They fucking exceeded my expectations and I now have some faith in them. Episodes 9 and 10 are the most compeling and emotionally grippling episodes i've seen in awhile. those 2 episodes alone make this adaption amazing, but the soundtrack and even those random rap guys were just icing on the cake along with the characters that were not even apart of the main cast. The opening is both for old fans and new. It comes off amazing and if you know the material you know the references and if you don't you're gonna have a " Damn that's cool wonder what it means." feeling. Hades seems to follow up the events of the show, based on the description I found, but devilman takes place in a time loop, so I figure it would have another season to explain how that whole thing works and to officially end that before moving into the sequel territory. Gonna be honest, the first few times I saw this OP I was like ok, it's atmospheric and kinda cool how grim and washed out it looks comparing to the color galore of the actual series but it's also so... bare and simple. But the more I watched the more appreciation I got and this review made me see even more to it. Truly great job! And great show too.

THANK YOU for putting into video form what I've been stewing over for the past week and some change. I watched the opening pretty much every episode and still watch it because of how well constructed it is. I'll throw in there that the shot of Miki crying also alludes to her death because the framing only shows her head. Thus when it reflects to Akira upside-down (I didn't think it was him until you mentioned that), it's a direct reaction of his pain since he ends up carrying her head when he initially confronts Ryo.

I love the intro so much! Each time I watched it, I connected something to a character, mainly trying to figure out who belonged to each ink blot. I didn't catch much of the more subtle religious themes from the imagery (because I know next to nothing about it all) but I cottoned on to a certain character's true identity from an early stage. Or at least 'what' they are rather than 'who'. Thanks for presenting the op in this way! I appreciate it more now!

@chronoloop93847 жыл бұрын
Esesem ssm wasn't she that big face demon? I mean, demons are so instinctive by nature, maybe that's how she helped control her sexual urges. That's what I figured, at least. That and cause the world of devilman is devoutly corrupt, sexual and, for lack of a better word, "sinful" in nature. I mean, Ryo is seen only as an asshole when he starts murdering people to draw out the demons and the rappers react to his machine gun like having a gun pulled on them is a regular normal thing, they barely even reacted to him shooting at them. I think it's safe to say the society of devilman isn't the same as our own. That or I'm way more sheltered than I realized lol

The story was decent, but HOT DAMN did I love the animation style. I’m relatively new to anime but it was a nice change of pace from the normal, big eyed, anime girl style.
@lthereddd48387 жыл бұрын
Robert Biteman The story is better if you have a long story with anime, as it breaks the mold a lot, having the main character not be invincible and not win everything just because they trained for 5 minutes, the most tragical deaths are complete twists from what should be expected, even Miki's death has the slow-mo where every other anime would add an ex-machina and save her, but no, she just died.

I both loved and hated this show. Overall it just felt way too rushed and jumpy. One moment a character is a villain and then the next second they are proclaim how the love Miki and become a good guy. I just didn't know how to feel for most of the series
@jaytread41327 жыл бұрын
To be fair, Miko was never a straight-up villain. She just wanted to beat Miki in a lot of things and came to terms with her suppressed feelings when she realized that they might die that night. Iirc, she only hurt people in retaliation for their actions (i.e., the guy who forced her to have sex at gun point, the crazy ppl on the roof, etc.).

That was probably when she had barely to no control over her demon self(Even Akira has trouble.)
@jaytread41327 жыл бұрын
TheOther Dude Not sure how that makes her a straight-up villain tho. I don't think she had any evil intentions behind taking his body's remains home instead of leaving them at the rave. Seems more like a courtesy thing that she'd take him home instead of letting him be completely devoured by the demons lol.

It opened my eyes and thanks to him i found out so many details and with you some others. It amazing how can someone blended and mixed so many hidden things, at first something simple but if you look carfully there is so much behind. I appreciate this, is trule great. And about the series, i LOVED it with all my heart. Well-done, it made me cry, cry so much. I just can't describe. One thing you didn't mention at around 9:55 is how Akira and Ryo are getting closer and closer at each other, even as they fade out into the next shot. This implies that they'll keep getting closer until they kiss, a reference to the love they have for each other but which never really comes to life entirely (as Akira dies before Ryo can confess his love), which is portrayed by them fading out before they can truly kiss. They want to, but it just doesn't happen.

I'm not sure if you noticed this, but the part of the intro where Akira and Ryo glaring at each other as their heads coverge mirrors what happens after Akira saves Miki at the photographer's studio and they have a skirmish, they bash their foreheads together.
