I couldn’t find the comment here but I feel that Hiei took it personal as Seiryu reminded him of the ice apparitions that cursed him and left him for dead. Although this episode predates his backstory it’s a good hint for what would come many episodes later.

Thing is, Seiryu literally had no way to actually defeat Hiei. Seiryu was actually slower than Hiei so he wouldn't be able to keep up with him let alone land any serious hits, and Hiei is actually immune to both Fire & Ice (he's the son of a Yuki-Onna [female Ice Demon/Spirit] and a fire demon, so he has immunity to both fire and ice due to his mixed heritage)....and then there's the tiny little fact that Seiryu betraying and killing Byakko even pissed off Hiei! Seiryu could have literally have gotten on his hands and knees to beg for forgiveness and mercy and Hiei would have still killed him.

Kuwabara does occasionally have some tricks though, like the way he tricked Byakko's monsters into piercing themselves through his sword and trapping them a loop or the time he changed his sword into a hammer to smash Toguro into paste.

​@@gamester512Necro posting, but Hiei is definitely not immune to fire attacks. Kurama comments that Zeru was overwhelming Hiei to the point that Hiei basically had no choice, but to use the dragon. Hiei just has a great poker face since he always had the ace up his sleeve, but still a fire using demon pushed Hiei into using it. I would imagine if he is not immune to fire then he wouldn't be immune to ice.

I really liked how Yusuke improved the character development of his allies. They seemed to be more honorable and strengthen each other while fighting through their own battles. A really great set of characters engaged with each other and sometimes against each other to grow much more as a team together

Funny part about this fight is Seiryu's ice was basically useless against Hiei, so Seiryu basically had no chance to win from the start, since he's half ice demon and half fire demon, so both ice and fire are useless against him, and even other damage elements will be less effective against him as he has increased resistances against those types of damage as well. About the only way he can actually be seriously hurt is by physical attacks or something at the level of his Dragon of the Darkness Flame. For the same reasons, Zeru was pretty much screwed going up against Hiei in the Dark Tournament arc due to Hiei's total immunity to Fire, and Fire was Zeru's primary means of fighting Hiei. And yet, even Hiei considers *Kurama* to be the most deadly member of their team (likely followed by a tie between Yusuke & Hiei) since Hiei outright stated that the main reason why he even teamed up with Kurama to begin with was so that he wouldn't have to *fight* him!

gamester512 Kurama was considered the most dangerous by Hiei due to his tactical and strategical mind but he had his own weaknesses (such as the tendency to allow his enemies time to attack so he could study their moves) Hiei in a battle with Kurama would probably win due to being outrageously faster (even here he only seen the initial hit while Hiei cut him 16 times) and Kurama (if it is there first time meeting) allowing him time to attack. Although the more information Kurama has the chances are he would go immediately for an attack to put Hiei down. Overall I would give Kurama 4/10 odds to beat Hiei not the worst but not the best.
