UPDATE , Please use deoxit F5 for the pots and faders, not D5 as shown in the video
How to connect to system and thoughts.
These can vary for 5 to 50 stereo channels, the more then the more control over the frequencies you have.

I just used the DeoxIt F5 Fader lube on 2 of my vintage Yamaha GE-30 equalizers and i regret it. It totally took the greased smooth feeling away from the sliders. It really didnt need it because they didnt have issues. My suggestion is, dont ever use this stuff for any type of preventive maintenance but only if it has an issue. Maybe the smoothness will return with some time like he said in the video. It did remove the static in the volume slider, they are different than the audio sliders and they still feel ok. I noticed on my power, sub sonic, defeat and tape buttons, they look just like the ones in this video, they have a slot on the post that slides in and out, if you look on the top of the post, youll see there is a channel that serves as a funnel to spray cleaner inside.)even though they are sealed, spray into that slot and the cleaner goes right inside. Mine are the same as in this video. I didnt have to take them apart at all and i could see the liquid inside, after I cleaned inside, it dumped right out afterwards. My defeat button still has stadic when using it but not much. Great video thank you. Ill update if the smooth feeling returns to my sliders. I sure hope it does. Its almost unbelievable in its current condition.

Thanks for the info on your units. I have used this quite a few times on sliders now and do get mixed results. Some of the grease (but does not feel like all) comes back on some units and others it seems to remove a lot of the grease for ever. I would only just use one quick squirt. It could well be the grease used in the first place, were some is quite thick shall we say and other no so and this can just disolve it. Hope your sliders return to normal.

@@MichaelYates I actually made a KZbin video on this I was so upset with F5 fader cleaner. I learned about fader grease after the fact. I ended up doing some research and I found out dielectric grease works the same. I used some dielectric grease and now my eq is better than it was before I used f5 so I'm happy now. I just didn't plan on all the work and time it would take to do what I did. I thought f5 was a one and done product. It's not. You mentioned how f5 thinned out the grease but no one else does in their videos. That's why I made one specific to that subject so no one else does what I did without knowing about the fact they need fader grease afterwards. I really crammed that grease in there. No issues at all. I'm sure dirt will stick to it eventually and I'll have to do this all over again, 😂. By the way, my volume faders were not negatively effected by f5. Only the audio faders. They are different. Thought I'd add that.

Hi Michael 😀, Very nice explanation. I remember these from many years ago, where a graphic equalizer was considered part of a high end audio system. Now a days high end components won’t have any tone controls. That’s not for me. My hearing has deteriorated to a point where tone controls are needed to restore a tonal balance. Thank you for the video. Best regards, Brian.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Brian. Yes another way one of these Equalizers could come in useful in some ones system these days. All the best Michael

Hi. I have the Realistic 31-2010. What would cause this unit to have distortion although it is being fed a clean signal? Is it an impedance mismatch or is it possible for some of the components such as capacitors needs service? Thanks for any help you can provide.
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, do not know how much checking you have done. But I would test the unit by plugging in a cd player / mp3 player etc directly in to the graphic and the graphic output say to the aux or cd in of your amp and see if it still distorts. also is it both channels or just one. if both I would look at the power supply of the graphic first maybe. Also try the graphic on another amp if possible

Great video I've got a behringer amp and I've wired it up to my amp and everything is flashing on the graphic equalizer but it doesn't seem to be working even though the led lights are flashing to the music and when I move the graphic sliders its making no difference to the sound, 🤔🧐

I do not know much about this amp, but just check that the connections are wired correctly and the Tape Monitor button is press in or turn on , on the amplifier to bring in the graphic equalizer

Hi Audio Electronics, thanks for the comment. I did have the JVC SEA -80 same one as the video you uploaded about a year ago. I have put a link in the description. I remember buying that unit in 1979/80. was £300 then if memory serves me right. I did think it was a nice unit and wish I kept hold of it. Though I did think the spectrum analyzer update was a little bit lagging.

@@MichaelYates yeah, it is a nice unit but pretty big for an EQ and the display is big but many people go for that!

Hi : I have a older Optimus Digital Synthesized Audio/Video Surround Receiver STAV=3270 and a Sanssui SE-1000 Graphic Equilizer. Is there a way to hook up both of these? There is no pre-amp o ut of the Optimus but it does have Tape 1 VCR and Tape 2 monitor and LD monitor jacks. It also has a Center Speaker Output Control Function. With all these connectors, is there anyway I can hook up the equalizer, even though the amp has a basic preamp? I just would like to enhance the sound and make the treble brighter. My speaker are 2-way Toshiba, 10 inch which is not the highest quality. I was hoping for a Advent speaker which I once had and now hard to come by. Of course I can use Polk, Bose and the like but they are expensive. What do you think?
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 3 жыл бұрын
Looking at your receiver , it looks like you would need to use Tape Monitor 2 input of the amp , connect the Tape in and out to the tape in and out of the Sansui , then select input on amp say phono and press tape monitor 2 button as well, as long as the button does what it says and is a tape monitor
@sergnechaev
@sergnechaev 3 жыл бұрын
so one can only use the equalizer for only one input at a time, say for the tape, in this case? there is no way to connect it up to use for multiple inputs (cd, aux)?
@MichaelYates
@MichaelYates 3 жыл бұрын
On most amps you can connect the Graphic through the Tape Monitor input / output and then select desired input on the amp, ie cd,aux, phono and the graphic will come in to play, or not depending if Tape Monitor button is engaged on amplifier.

You shouldn't use deoxit D5 on pots or faders. You should use F5....

Thanks Yak, I do know that now, when starting the channel someone recommended the deoxit D5 so I did not even check, I just bought it. But a few people have inform me since that is the wrong spray. I have now learned to double check

Thanks for posting this..... that's the first thing I noticed about this video. F5 is for "fader"-type controls..... anything that adjusts levels like volume/tone/balance controls. Deoxit D5 is for the dials/switches like power/selector/filters, etc.
