This is based on a true story where they barley survived taking a balloon up to 31,000 ft. I've done alot of mountain climbing in California and Washington state and I've been as high as 14,000 feet. At 14,000 feet each breath gives you 60% of the air you'd get at sea level at altitude I had to slow down my climbing pace because I was feeling much weaker and more out of breath than I should be. The temperature in the nearby valley was 100 degrees but I was wearing a sweater and jeans because it was in the 40's on the mountaintop. Also I was having to skirt around snowfields even though it was July. At the balloons maximum altitude the temperature was about -50 degrees F and each breath would have got you 25% of the oxygen you'd get at sea level. I don't know how they survived that, if they stayed up there much longer they would probably die. When people climb really big mountains like Everest they climb the mountain slowly over a few weeks. The reason why they are not in a rush to get up the mountain is when you spend time at high altitude you're body makes more red blood cells increasing the amount of oxygen in you're blood and some of you're strength comes back. They would have a much better chance of surviving at that altitude if they had spent the previous 2 weeks on a mountaintop.

The movie embellishes a LOT. The writers obviously have no clue how a balloon works.
@Weathernerd272 жыл бұрын
No movie is completly true they have to imbellish it alittle bit but 2 people did really take a balloon to that altitude, they did nearly freeze and suffocate and the balloon did take alittle damage from the really low air pressure. This balloon flight was critical to our understanding of the atmosphere we wouldn't have modern weather forecasting without a flight like this.
@ferdiemiddleton8910 Жыл бұрын
@@TehButterflyEffect it is based of james glaiser and henry coxwell but henrys charachter is replaced by the girl in the movie. in real life glaiser passed out at 28,000 ft and they were freezing to death, henry managed to climb the rigging at 29000 ft with no saftey equiptment because the valve was jammed meaning they kept rising up to their death. he successfully got on top and released it only to pass out on top of the balloon himself and then wake up when it had descended. its a mircale he was still breathing at that height let alone climbing the balloon with no fingers to use and no oxygen getting to his brain. they embelished the storm scene and the takeoff scene but this scene is probably pretty accurate apart from it being a woman in the movie

Even with all of our current technological know-how, a seven day weather forecast is only accurate around 80% of the time--and it gets worse the further ahead you try to predict. @@Alex-ug9wx Usually the inflections and the pacing the sentences give it away. These kinds of bots have gotten much better at mimicking actual speech in recent years, but, if it sounds a bit too perfect (if there is a uniform spacing between the words in terms of milliseconds, or if accent inflections are completely perfect, etc.) chances are someone is using a program like that for the speech. Only the best voice actors can mimic the same thing, but most enjoy subtle differences in tone and personal pronunciation as a sort of personal signature for their work. That isn't to say I didn't enjoy the video, though. And it still takes a fair bit of editing work to make a bot voice like this convincing.
