The high-speed camera taking angles are much more informative than usual in terms of the athlete entry into the approach conversion phase and take-off mechanism. It is evident many of these jumpers practiced with an elevated take-off platform.

How is it evident?

Barshim (the 2nd athlete) amazes me. He takes off so far away! Stop this film at 0:36 and look; he is some 2 metres away from the bar when he takes off.

Difficult to tell from front-on angle, but many seem to have their take-off foot near parallel to bar - supposedly a non-no. Just shows there's more than one effective technique, so long as you have speed/power.

Sometimes it’s not rlly about where your foot placement is but rather the angle your shoulders are at on the take off

That was exceptional, usually you don't see the takeoff force so well... 👍

Must be an exceptional toll on the tendons in the takeoff leg.

So out of all the jumps in the video, who is more technical proficient in your eyes..
@matehj Жыл бұрын
that's tough because I think they're all very proficient, bar a couple. But I truly think the optimal way is speed jumping with a double arm swing like Barshim and Nedasekau. Although I think Woo and Tamberri have fantastic runups and speed at takeoff, but are single arm swing. The Russians also always have good jumpers but they like to spend more time on the ground at takeoff and come in from a sharper angle which I don't think is as efficient. This is what I see, could all be malarkey though haha.

@@matehj Should have defined this question to a finer detail than I did. Who is the most efficient in terms of posture, force application, movement efficiency and replicating this constantly.. Without risking breaking your self.... Not sure if double arm or single arm shifts make any difference, just what every your comfortable with. As long as you can maintain the correct posture and angle at take off to benefit form high siding your self... Working with rather than against.

@@matehj am I unusual I am a power jumper with a single arm swing? Is double arm swinging better? How come speed jumpers with a double arm swing are more efficient?
@matehj Жыл бұрын
@@surreal_feelins The very best jumpers are all almost all speed, even the power jumpers who have adapted to get to the top come in blazing fast. Personally I think double arm is better, I'm single arm myself and honestly there isn't any evidence double is better, just anecdotal evidence I get from watching lots of elite high jump.

1:40 what the hell is that ankle bend?

Its the shoe not the ankle

Is it really optimal for high jumping to have shoes like that?
