I'm definitely not a luxury car fan as it seems the more you spend the more problems you're going to have. Bmw, mercedes, jags, range rovers, etc are all giant piles of crap. That being said I would definitely buy a Lexus and not think twice about it. Toyota/Lexus build cars that last. I had a boss a couple years ago with a mid 2000s Lexus he bought new. He had almos 300k miles on it but with the original engine and transmission. Infact his biggest problem in those 300k miles was the sun roof started leaking but thst only costed him an hour at the dealership to get resealed.

Aside from that issue due to the sealant that Toyota used, these things are bulletproof through and through. I did a set on an old Mazda MX6 (I think.) the rear bank needed about 2-3 feet of extension. I was 3/4 of the way up the windshield with the extension running between the hood and the cowl. I also had to use a regular deep well socket, pull it out and fish the plug out with a magnet. It was either that or take the engine loose and try to rotate it about 6 inches. Anything longer than about 6 inches and you were in the firewall. That’s when I learned why they made wobbly extensions.

Unfortunately it was one of rear plugs that had fouled. Otherwise I probably would have left the damn things. Stupid design for a part that is changed semi-regularly as part of the designed maintenance schedule. It’s like a transmission pan without a drain plug. I bet there would be a lot more spill and fills on those if they were easier to service. I’ve only changed trans fluid in a car once and that was on an 87 Corvette that my buddy owned. I looked like I’d been shot multiple times after I was done. I was covered in nasty brownish red fluid. A simple drain plug and the pan is empty before you pull it down to change the filter.

Just wanted to let you know that there is a tab that locks the oil filter cover that needs to be pressed in order to remove the cover. That is probably why it was so hard for you to remove. It looks like you slightly bent the tab when you removed the cover by force and did not press the tab. It is not a major issue, but I just wanted to let you know should you run across it again. The tab is located on the top side of the filter cover housing.

I admire your sunny demeanor everyday no matter what work you are asked to undertake or not to undertake.. You don't rush and skip the inspection like most shops .. I have tires that need to be replaced and also brakes that are just a few more stops b4 the wear tab squeels .. I do all my own work , even my tires so I know what needs attention on my truck.. I hurt my back and had to go to the dealer for the first time in the trucks 9 year life .. Back needs time to heal but I needed a oil change .. They did the oil change and even though I brought motorcraft oil and filter for it I still got charged for 8 qts oil and a filter.. When inquired about this issue the manager told me the system won't let them change the normal process so I had to pay for oil and a filter too .. Rip off , but oh well this is why I do my own work .. When my truck was done I got a paper that shows where there is current wear , and things I should do now or quickly in the future .. To my supprise everything was marked green 100 percent life .. They did not do the inspection obviously .. it's bad for their company not letting me know I needed 4 tires and brakes all around . They would have made good money .. I'm just glad I know my truck .. If I was a parent letting my son or daughter borrow my truck to go on vacation to the beach 4 hours away and brought the truck in to make sure it was up to snuff I would have been lead to believe it would get them there and back no problem.. Thus sending my child off in a truck with dangerous worn tires and brakes that could not stop as fast bc they were exactly at replacement time . I owned my own biz for 15 years b4 my back went out .. I found that I didn't need to worry about how to make the most money every week .. I just focused on making the customer happy and found that if my customers were all happy the money would take care of itself .. it did , every week I hit and exceeded goals by ignoring my balance sheet till end of week and just focus on my customers. It breaks my heart that the new working generation skips steps and generally aren't productive even though they demand more money..

Good day Ray, I really enjoy watching your videos, and have grown to appreciate your personality and opinions a great deal. It did slightly bother me, however, when you mentioned people are not right or wrong, and everyone has their own lived experience. Although there may be truth to that, there are still people (in certain situations) that are right, and some that are wrong. I do not believe that anyone can “live their own truth,” as we are always told these days. Rather, there is one truth, one reality, and we must live by not just our civil law, but a natural and moral law. I don’t like being political, especially on your wonderful channel, but I think today more than ever, it is important to be clear that there is one truth, one reality. Keep up the great work, I very much enjoy learning from you Ray!

Slo-mo on the oil filter breaking loose 👍 I'm hearing impaired so I rely on KZbin auto CC which is not always accurate. When you used the double wobbly bit I think you said "goofy" wobble, but is translated it as "gooby" wobble which was even funnier (and "clickage" translates as "flickage"). Denso Iridium Spark plugs are the OEM factory plugs, so they are original or were replaced with original. Since Iridium is advertised as 8 times stronger and 6 times harder than platinum (platinum plugs are often rated at 100,000 miles), with the absence of oil foiling the could be the original plugs.

Ray, I have enjoyed your vids and learned many things. Now, I can offer you something. To remove Lexus clips, you press down on the inner part of the top. You get a satisfying click, this releases the legs of the clip. By levering up the edge as you do without releasing the center, you weaken the clip and likely break the legs

I understand the reasoning behind modern engines but I REALLY miss the simplicity of the engine bays of my '69 elCamino and '70 Caprice. Wasn't much I couldn't fix with a 9/16th box end, pliers and a screwdriver. They ran clean because I could, 1. afford to keep them tuned properly. 2. actually work on everything because it was all easily accessed. 3. If they weren't running right, it was one of 3 things without 20 different sensors telling each one to do something else.

You know the more I watch your videos the more I appreciate just how bad the designs of most of these cars are. Seems hardly a thought for maintenance as long as you can change the oil. After that I get the impression the makers just want the car to scrapped and sell you a new one. Ridiculous when we are trying to reduce scrappage. No excuse either they have all the computer power to check out the designs. Still guess thats what keeps you in business Ray.

Before I take my cars in for servicing I have to remember to top off the windshield washer fluid since I use Rain-X and I've had them mix the blue stuff into it. Also I recently did the engine cleaning method I've seen on KZbin using Armor-All Tire Foam, and it really works great. The engine bay on my 2012 and 2014 Honda cars look like brand new. I always get grossed out when I see some of the really cruddy engines mechanics have to work on.

As I live and breathe! History does repeat itself. I had a 1967 Chevrolet many years ago, my first car actually, with the 283 v-8. It had the large metal cannister with the filter cartridge. It had a 9/16 or 5/8 wrench-size bolt up through the middle of it. ( I know this comment is a bit late; however, I just watched this vid and had an "analog boomer" flashback.)

Like I always say they need a yank the engineers out of their desk and make them work on everything they design for a couple of weeks and our guarantee here that they will have more common sense on how they build some of this stuff! It's ridiculous to go through all that trouble for something that is a simple preventive maintenance like spark plugs

I run a 3.5 Estima Aeras ’S‘ as part of the (small) fleet, and always use iridium plugs! The employment of the double, triple, possibly quadruple extension bars is “je ne sais quas”, and testament to your professionalism - don‘t ever lose that。 ! The “double-wobbly” was beyond superb! And you MUST do the brake clean bit, every time - cracks us all up! Much love JC, Hong Kong

TPSs are another example of government overreach. Very few can afford the high price of replacing the TPSs when they fail. So we just ignore the flashing light and just check our tire pressure as we did before the government got involved.

Good evening good sir ... or aka Florida Man-Texas person here... The folks been working on my Sand and Gravel trucks "Besides what my guys destroy on a regular basis🥵" I feel through your knowledge and care of other people's vehicles is supreme in your manner- I hate to suggest as there is probably a reason why this might not work for you but .... try taking any punch, pin or nail set or mini pry bar and a tappidy tap (AVE....😇)(gotta have a drain there anyway).... one hole in top for relief and on in bottom for drain on the filter... before even releasing the drain plug. Normally do my own services, but a quart plus oil filter can be very mess and hot lol. First time saw this , I Polacked my self in the forehead- you are a brilliant automotive technician, and don't feel I should be even suggesting this because you have rhymes and reasons for your procedures. Love the channel and your expert "mechanicship"if that's even a word💪 lol

So many lube techs tighten that canister on all the way to the end. Your not supposed to tighten to the flush surface on both ends. It’s half way then a quarter turn. You explained that perfectly. The oil seal is what seals it on the circumference

There should be a low tire air reset button on the driver side by the steering column. Just press that button for 3-5 seconds and that low air tire light will go away. On my Lexus LS 430, that is where the reset button is. Also for that oil drain plug screw, for my LS 430, there is a metal washer that need to be replaced when changing oil. I believe it may come with the purchase of OEM oil filter. Anyway, great video. Thank you for sharing.
