A genuine question, since I really want to stick with keto. How do you get enough daily potassium on keto? I find that I can't eat enough avocado and end up getting swollen from too much sodium, and then have to eat bananas for relief. I don't know how keto people handle this

@@beautifulrose8619 I recommend spending about an hour investigating the Zone Diet macronutrient balance. Start at 40/30/30 (35g C, 28g P, 12g F) and then adjust from there. Dr. Barry Sears explains how to adjust based on how soon you get hungry after eating your meal. Start there. The more moderate your balance the better. His goal is to manage inflammation. Eat real food from the ground, which means eliminating processed foods, especially if rusty iron filings have Ben "fortified" into the processed foods where the natural nutrients have been processed out. Listen to Morley Robbins' more recent interviews to extend Dr. Sears' insights to a whole new level.

@TM-qd6hv
@TM-qd6hv 4 жыл бұрын
michael Cariello why’s that funny? Their not saying the opposite things at all - they’re promoting health, but from a different point of reference. So what!? At no material time can I recall Dr Naiman saying insulin is not an issue, which is Dr Bikman’s bellywieg. There is no right way for health and longevity - but there is a wrong way, the standard western diet killing us all. Hence strategic cycling of macros has a lot of merit. Eating strategically through a combination of Time restricted feeding, IF, longer fasts and/or fast mimicking has merit. For me, keto is my foundation but i will cycle in higher protein days and before my period is due, increase good carbs and decrease fat to facilitate increase in progesterone which is critical for women during her cycle. Likewise I incorporate 2MAD and OMAD and time restricted feeding. Quite frankly, I’m grateful for these wonderful clinicians/scientists who have had the guts to step outside the mainstream of nutrition and medicine which is killing us all slowly but surely. Take from them that which resonates with you and works for you, and leave the rest 😊. None of these individuals have ever been so arrogant as to say they have all the answers or have the panacea
@michaelcariello6233
@michaelcariello6233 4 жыл бұрын
Tash 1111 I believe Ted Naiman is trying to reinvent the wheel here. His take on fat and “fat toxicity” is just his version of CICO. He has said himself that the Hormonal Model of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes “is dead”. I’m still not sure what he means by that. He has also said in some interviews that protein calories almost don’t even count when you eat them. In this latest podcast he is saying that eating fat even in the context of a ketogenic diet can cause spikes and raise insulin. No one else in the community is saying that especially Ben Bikman. Where is Naiman getting that from? I wish he would do a better job in clarifying his statements. The good news he still recommends the correct way of eating which is basically just eat steak and eggs. I agree with him on that.

vlad1111 i agree with you here. Low is very subjective. When I was trying to go strict keto almost a year ago, I thought I could maintain my same workout routine of 4-5 HIIT & Strength training sessions/week. No way. I would get winded so quickly. When I increased my carbs, my workouts got so much better. Now I want to go full carnivore though, so let’s see how my body reacts.

I've been told so many times that I don't do keto right because I eat higher protein and don't add a lot of extra fat. I just practiced listening to my body and I knew that I was more satisfied when I ate more protein so that's what I stuck with. Eating a lot of extra fat didn't seem logical to me so I just avoided it. I was able to lose 104lbs and get to healthy weight even being wheelchair-bound. I'm comfortable with that so I'll continue doing what works for me. Learning how long it may take for my body to continue to want to gain the weight back was a bit of a shock, but I'm hoping that since I gained most of my weight as a result of being in the chair that maybe I'll get a quicker response. Even if I don't I'll continue to eat high protein lower fat.

@26:00 this is true on me. Not a T2D but I follow LCHF. Each meal usually has an energy split of 65% fat, 25% protein and 10% carb. Fasting glucose is always higher than what I like it to be. After hearing this, took out the extra added fat in dinner so its energy split changed to around 35% fat, 48% protein and 17% carb. The next day fasting glucose is the the lowest I've ever seen (15 points lower than my normal fasting) and ketone is way up. Repeated several times got similar results. Still playing around with the %. Interesting stuff....

I've been off grains, sugar, and bad fats for almost 3 years, and have moved from LCHF to pretty much keto. Ted's ideas make a lot of sense to me and I'm going to go about 45% - 45% - 10%carbs. While the low-carb / keto has been good (fasting insulin 1.4, HOMA-IR .03), this seems like a good neutral ground without going full on carnivore. Thanks, Mike and Ted...much appreciated.

Great talk! Prioritize protein. The quality of fat in hogs is very dependent on the quality of their feed. Traditionally hogs have been fed a high carbohydrate diet and their fat was derived from de novo lipogenesis. A byproduct of the ethanol industry is distillers grains, they are a relatively high in seed oils. In a monogastric such as a pig the oil ends up directly in their fat. Eating commercial bacon as opposed to traditionally raised bacon may have a different satiety effect. Commercially raised hogs may actually be a source of seed oils. I’m still studying the subject, these are preliminary thoughts.

I love listening to Dr. Naiman. His explanation on personal fat threshold, insulin resistance as a result of energy overflow( in form of fat)...these are in line with what Dr. Fung also said. I ve been doing keto and IF for 2 years, only crave fat and never carbs, but everytime i let myself going overboard with fat, i put on weight abdominally :-( ! So energy definitely counts like it or not...i know it sucks as i can eat butter all day long....

@@Highintensityhealth Totally understand and agree with you but you had an ad up front with no disruption during the 1hr + interview while Thomas had a 12 min. segment with 2 ads dispersed within the segment disrupting the flow. End result, I will be more likely to click on a HIH video over a T.D. video....

Regarding fasting, Ted gave the number of 30 calories per 24 hours that can be provided by one pound of body fat. I find this interesting, and have searched for more information or research about this number, fat and muscle metabolism, etc. I haven't found any sources for this information. Does anyone have any sources or places for more information? Thanks.

Been Keto for 1-1/2 years, lost 100 lbs, but stopped (losing weight) 8 months ago. I'm not complaining, but I still want to lose wt. Already doing 18/6, almost 0 carbs, but looks like I need to try less fat, more protein. I am a bit nervous about losing the satiety I currently get. I'll try it.

Great information and discussion. Thanks so much! I paused and went to look at my last triglyceride level (which my doctor assured me was ‘low’) ... and found 105. If you talked about actionable ways to reduce elevated TGs, I guess I missed it. Would you please do a nuts and bolts session on keeping the fasting trigs and glucose levels to less than the 100 mark which was recommended? The doctor was adamant about using this as both goal and marker. I’m feeling inspired but a little lost at this moment, I must confess. Great session. Love you guys!

I'd recommend that you start with the Standard Ketogenic Diet for at least three months first. Swapping out higher protein for fat works well for many, but I think it is better to work your way up to it. The same goes for fasting. Intermittent Fasting, Extended Fasting, and even a 100% carnivore diet are much easier to enter after you have kicked any carb addiction issues via keto. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qnTConV5Zqp4rNk www.reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq

This makes so much sense! Thank you HIH guy for saying that you can eat enormous amounts of nuts! I have been obese my whole life and have a lot of shame about how easy it is for me to overeat some things--like nuts and especially almond butter et al. This makes a lot of sense in terms of how I can f*cking DRINK HWC and just want to keep drinking it.... Maybe I'm not broken, is I guess what I'm getting at, and am only responding to foods the way my body is made to respond. I have started a 99% carnivore diet and this is really going to help me refine what I'm doing and hopefully start actually losing weight. Thanks so much!!!

Interesting. When I was diagnosed with T2D (A1C of 7.1) my triglycerides were pretty low (68). I went on a low carb diet to manage my blood sugar and 4 months later my A1C was 5.4, but my triglyceride were 98 (and my cholesterol also went up). I think I read or heard somewhere that this would be "normal" on a low carb diet because you are burning fat, so dumping some of those stored triglycerides into your blood stream? I've not done a whole lot to try and avoid fat, but I don't go out of my way to add fat either. I don't find that I need to do keto to stay in ketosis. I just need to cut carbs and I don't have to go to

This was hands down your best interview!! I’d love to know your thoughts on using a digestive enzyme when you increase protein? I’m thinking I might be having some issues digesting large portions of protein. What should I use?? - or can I train my body to digest better? Also- histamine?? I’m noticing issues on carnivore... would a more diverse diet improve histamine issues?

It's funny that I arrived to this channel through your most popular video of all times: your interview with Jason Fung, who basically recommends keto. And if I understood correctly his target patients are obese people who are sometimes even diabetics. His argument is that (literally the first minutes in your video) low carb diet lowers insulin. Also, on ketosis you become extra efficient burning fat. Fat that you eat but also fat that you have stored. Anyways, I think we can all agree high fat + high carbs is a big no.
