I am in my mid fifties and I get 100% of my healthcare through the VA, I used to have HBP/ Hypertension, sleeping issues, skin problems, ect and I used to have to take 7 medications daily. I started and continue to follow this diet/ life style and all my test are now normal, my skin cleared up, and I feel great, and I take no medication...This has given me a new lease on life. Thank You Dr. Berry, for simply being you...

That's good to hear! I know it's no secret that diet soda is horrible for you. I used to be addicted to diet coke. Now I just drink seltzer and water. There was a time when I was on weight watchers and I was surprised they allowed diet Coke and say it's 0 points cuz it's zero calories and whatnot. I know some people just can't give up their soda habit but they really should. They may lose weight but they're still damaging other parts of their body through the diet colas

I cut my Diet Coke intake from about 4 a day to 0 about 2 years ago. I didn’t know that they could affect triglycerides. Glad I stopped. I stopped for financial reasons. That habit along with a a heavy beer habit are now a permanent thing in the past. I also threw away all seed oils, started eating only single ingredient Proper Human Diet espoused by my mentor Dr. Ken Berry. Lost 45 pounds and added I believe untold years of good health to my 68 year old body.

I can't seem to lower my BP enough to stop taking them. Been ketocarnivore for 14 months. It has helped me with my depression and my A1C as a type one diabetic is pretty good 5.1% but my blood pressure is still high. My triglycerides were 43 last time we checked! Thank you Dr Berry, you have added years and quality of life as well, I can never thank you enough for all the fantastic info you offer to the public, you have definateley helped more people you have never met, than the numbers you have had in your office, again thank you so, so much.

There is a book written by woman medical doctor, Nutrients depleted by common prescription drugs, very good book. You can look up any medication to see what it depletes in your body. Also, it would be interesting to know the mechanism of action, that causes triglycerides levels to rise, with each of these medications you listed here. The cause has to be a little different in each medication. Jean.

Once again, thank you Dr, Berry. 3 years ago before I discovered keto, my triglycerides were 255. I was juicing a lot and not that much fruit. Next physical they were down to 196, not great but better. I started getting borderline high BP, and read that beets were great for that. We all know how high in sugar beets are so I found a powder labeled 0 carbs, 2 g of sugar, I drank that for 2 months-triglycerides shot up over 300! I stopped the day I got the results. Keto/carnivore plus walking has me down in body fat and 120/80 BP. Guess the Fraud and Deception missed this one, though I'm sure beet supplements are approved.

@@AltruisticWarrior thank you for your concern. He passed away one year ago in February. There is a saying that you get further with individuals who are not family. Don’t get me wrong, my brother was ready to go home to the Lord. His life was restricted as he gave his life over to taking care of his wife since 2011. He loved her to the point his health was put to the side taking care of her. He also listened to a “doctor” who stated to drink orange juice because it was healthy and good for people. When I heard this I was like “you got to be kidding me”. Orange juice is pure sugar and not good for his liver. Finally his son told him he needed to stop drinking it which he did, but then started drinking soda. I think at that point he was ready to go home to his loving Father in Heaven. Someday I’ll see him again. Until then I’ll keep trying to reach those who what to learn the truth about living a healthy life as I feel God has lead me to do. God bless.

I'm Not going to stop them because they Do work but I have definitely noticed once I started taking 200 mg of Seroquel a night that I was not feeling well about 6 months later. Through blood work, my triglycerides show that they were through the roof and I'm not even going to list the number it's so bad. I will address this with my PCP and my psychiatrist and a dietitian. I had high triglycerides before keto. Usually 200-280. Cholesterol was always normal. After keto they went down to 70ish and it's been under 100 since losing 150lbs. I think it's from too many calories and too many calories from carbs. I do take metoprolol, but a low dose of 25mg. Used to take more, Losing weight helped. I had been on lisinopril. Off that.

I took lisinopril for 4+ years. Developed a hacking cough. Nerve wracking. Never donned on me, it was the Lisinopril. (I know, duh). I blamed it on carpet allergens & my new german shepherd. Long story short. Discovered other family members, same drug, same cough. They were taken off that med, cough went away. I quit taking it & cough went away in 2 days. Just an fyi, for anyone taking lisinopril.

@@HootNightowl People that take lisinopril have a higher incidence of lung cancer. I think 30%, but you can look it up. I took it longer than 4 years. I've been off it a year and a half now.

I've been eating mostly low-carb since around 2012 and while my cholesterol was high, my HDL/LDL ratio was good and my triglycerides were in-range. I got put on hydrochlorothiazide in 2018 and since then my numbers have deteriorated badly. I also gained about 30 pounds and felt like hell. I added intermittent fasting to my routine in 2020 and lost a little weight, but that slowly began to creep back on as well. A friend of mine warned me last summer that hydrochlorothiazide caused him to gain weight, and when my doctor got onto me last fall about needing to exercise more and watch my diet I absolutely lost it. I already exercise more than 90% of Americans, I only eat for 8 hours a day, and I don't eat a ton of junk. I demanded they switch me off the hydrochlorothiazide immediately. I went to chlorthalidone, which is a stronger diuretic, and lost almost 30 pounds in just four months! My cholesterol numbers and triglycerides also improved radically (they'd put me on Crestor as well, which I since took myself off of after having hip joint aches for the first time in my life and bizarre, middle-of-the-night insomnia), more than the statin alone could have been responsible for according to my doctor. I went off the chlorthalidone in February after a suspected electrolyte imbalance left me sick in bed for a week with nausea and lethargy. I'm on Losartan for my high blood pressure now - I haven't noticed any bad side-effects from that (yet). It seems to be gentler than most of the other BP meds. Just goes to show you - even if a drug is old and widely used, that doesn't mean it's safe FOR YOU. Whenever you start a new drug you need to monitor your health carefully over the next couple of years, and you should assume any changes you notice are a side effect of the drug and proceed accordingly. Do not wait for your doctor to figure it out - they'll sooner berate you for your diet and exercise levels than examine what their drugs are doing to your health.

Hi Dr. Berry. I have watched all your videos and started a Keto/Carnivore diet in mid July this year when I found out my HbA1C was 6.9. I had my blood work done yesterday and the HbA1C is down to 6.4, so thats going great. But shockingly my Triglycerides jumped from 400 to 600!! Since the middle of July I have been on less than 20 carbs a day, most days less than 10. Lots of eggs, cooked in butter...and have only used Olive Oil to cook fatty pork, beef, chicken and organ meats including lots of chicken liver. Do I need to be concerned about the ridiculously high Triglycerides? What am I doing wrong?

Cut out the oils entirely, could try using ghee as well and start taking omega 3 supplements. Try to eat more fish like salmon and halibut. Are you fasting at all? Fasting can help a bit too. I do believe you can see an increase initially as your body is breaking down stored fat as well, I had something similar. After I stuck with it for several months and implemented more fasting periods my numbers got significantly better. 😊

Don’t take this lightly. Triglyceride number is concerning. Also check VLDL and HDL. If triglycerides are above 200, VLDL above 40 and HDL below 40, you need to be careful. It’s a bad trend. If you can’t correct these levels, you may need to take medication. Fasting brings triglycerides down reliably. I eat 2 meals a day and skip dinner. My triglycerides is at 59 and HDL at 66

I am on HCTZ medication and have been for a long time. Since I have been low carb my triglycerides have dropped 100 points. They were at 60 three months ago. I have not been able to go full keto because my heart rate goes too high. Is that normal? I am basically paleo with high fat and low carb. I gave up wheat and feel much better. Most of my carbs are from veggies and nuts. I stay away from processed but we do eat sausage.

Hello Dr Ken. I did have a discussion with my MD about my Metoprolol as a cause of my high triglycerides. Unfortunately I have a-fib causing an abrupt increase in my heart rate with minimal exertion. As a result many years ago I was put on metoprolol. To fix my high triglycerides i was prescribed Actos. This med has lowered my tri’s to below normal. I do not use any fructose or sucrose. I have minimal carbs less than 100 gram / day. I rarely eat any breads or pasta. All the various foods i keep at a minimum and have been on a keto / omad diet for 1 year now. I’ve lost approximately 40 lbs as a result. Any problems i should discuss the Actos use with my doctor?

Rod-just wanted to offer my support to you and my wish for your continued good health. I developed AFIB in late 2016 with a heart rate at 165/minute. Did a sleep study and discovered I had sleep apnea and I stopped breathing 65 times per hour while sleeping. Had memory and concentration issues prior to this as well as poor sleep until I got on a CPAP with the nose pillows. Went on meteorological initially and was having halucinations and depression, so doctor switched me to a different blood thinner. Fast forward, I’m still trying to lose weight, but my electrophysiologist was able to eliminate the AFIB within a year and I got off the blood thinners. Good luck to you, Rod!
