Makes sense. I used to take 200g Pomegranate and 200g of Blueberries everyday and I couldn’t lose weight on 18:6. Let the fruit go, replaced it with more kale/broccoli and lost 18 pounds in 3 months.

That’s what bears ate before hibernation. Fruit should be eaten in season, small portion. I live in Nj blueberries are in season essentially 4th of July. A few days before, a few days after maybe 7-10 days max.

I was told I had this. I opted to not get on all those meds and stopped eating sugar immediately. I had no idea I was starting a ketogenic diet. That was last June when I weighed 285lbs now I'm currently 170lbs still having to drop this last 40lbs but I'm not on any medication. I'm looking forward to seeing what my labs say when I go back this June for my yearly exam. Thank you Dr. Berg

Yes. I used to believe that sugars from sweet fruits & berries were fine because of their fiber and unique nutrients. When I finally stopped them, some of my energy returned. Big improvements for me at that time.

I think as an odd treat, just fine. Fresh, wild blueberries are great. You must beat the bears to them. The old food guidelines limit it to two servings a day. Still way beyond what I eat. I go weeks without any fruit, which matches up with nature. But still have the odd bit. Now you have people who put 5 to 10 servings in a blender and drink it for breakfast. And think it is healthy. Then snack on fruit during the day.

There was a doctor HJ Reilly who did this when i was growing up . He lived in NYC and had his country place near my grandmother. Of course way back then nutririon and health was mocked but he healed many. Bob Hope was one of his patients among others. I can still remember hearing him stress chew your food, drink before your meal . He was also a physiotherapist who healed many the established claimed uncurable

Broccoli, spinach, carrots and potatoes are all high in antioxidants, and so are artichokes, cabbage, asparagus, avocados, beetroot, radish, lettuce, sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, collard greens and kale. There are plenty of low sugar sources. Elimination of fructose to the extent you are able is wise if you have metabolic issues. Thanks for another good video, 25 pounds to go. It does seem to be a protective system, not that I am a doctor.

I used to drink orange juice by the quart nearly daily. It's smashed up oranges (fruit), right? "Eat your fruits and veggies" they said, to stay healthy. Well, don't be fooled by that notion! When your doc says to lose weight and avoid sugary drinks, alcohol, etc. because of your fatty liver, that INCLUDES fruit juice. Fruit juice IS FRUCTOSE, and is actually terrible for you if you have any metabolic syndrome, overweight, or fatty liver, etc. Just putting that out there for anyone else, because my doc never mentioned fruit juice and I did not think it was harmful until I was told I have fatty liver with moderate fibrosis. Yes I'm working on making myself a new liver. Thank you Dr. Berg!

Insulin resistance isn't really a disease. Raised blood sugar by the liver in the morning is just a sign that your liver wants to burn fats. So you just have to fast or do keto while, or start intermittent fasting by skipping meals, that blood sugar in the morning is very convenient for that.

Stop eating sugar (other than fruit in moderation), stop eating flour/ultra-processed products...eventually the need for medications won't be necessary. Do not rely on a doctor to convince you medication is necessary (they are paid off by big pharma to promote medications), they (doctors) need you on medication to maintain their lifestyle. I grew up with a doctor (step-father) and he was always traveling on big pharma expense to attend seminars about thier new drugs...I started IF, cut out sugar/flour, do cold water therapy and eat organic...50 y/o male, 32" waist (was 36") and feel amazing. Essentially, you are what you eat...DON'T BE A DOUGHNUT!

I have been taking a potassium supplement twice a day with my meals to control my blood pressure and help prevent edema. Guess what? It seems to be working. I would never have thought about this but I was in the hospital last year getting full blood work done daily. My potassium was chronically low and they would not discharge me from.the hospital until my potassium levels were raised. (Sodium and glucose levels are normal.) No idea why my diet can' t keep a good potassium intake I am trying to improve that, but will supplement until I get it figured out. I do eat sugar, but in limited amounts, I don' t eat it regularly.

I spent six months last winter in Mexico and lost 27 pds in two months. I didn't have access to sweets like in the US and UK, walked everywhere, was busy in that fabulous weather walking and exploring with my dog. I did IF eating between 2-6 each day. Fish, lots of veg and select fruits. Being busy in that weather was wonderful. Our ancestors didn't sit in offices and then grab food on the run only to sit with the remote control at night.

Drink Dr. Bergs electrolyte drink mix the raspberry lemonade is good just as extra water if you're sensitive to the taste of stevia that's what I do. I add one scoop in 32oz of water instead of in 16oz & drink two 32oz water bottles a day.

Interesting I ate lots of bananas and other fruits to get the potassium to lower my blood pressure. It didn't work. They had me on Norvasc. My hair dropped out, my gums would bleed when I brushed my teeth yet the doctor kept recommending higher dosages. I have cut out the bananas. Reduce my fruit intake. I now have a BP reading of 120/77 the doctor has taken me off prescription medication. Even when I eat cheese my BP remains normal. In the past cheese and coffee would raise my BP. Iam 66 years

I may have a half of orange. My problem was too much fruit. I didn't appreciate the problem of too much fructose. In addition to bananas I would he eat a fried plantain every day. My pants size went from 32 inches to 38. Try as I may walking jogging swimming I couldn't get it down. With reduced fructose I am around 33 inches waistline. In addition I hardly exercise any more though I plan to restart since I heard it's good for stress reduction

Sodium may not be the villain, but table salt. Celtic and Himalayan salt should be part of our diet. Small amounts. People use a lot of table salt because it kill the taste buds.

I was truly addicted to oranges before my body stopped losing weight. I knew something was wrong so I stopped eating 3-4 oranges a day, and there you go- that's what it was, but the damage was done; Gallbladder issues, liver issues equals digestion problems, plus menopause. So a complete body/organ detox was a must. I learned about the endocrine system watching Dr. Berg's videos, and 1 year later 90 lbs lighter by a new eating and fasting reset to learn what my body responds to. I am smaller now than I was when I had my last baby in 1985, and It is so easy to maintain, and lose now since I have the knowledge of understanding. Thanks to God for leading me to Doctor Berg.

I had terrible cholesterol and gout, now I have excellent cholesterol and gout has been gone for years, no euric acid test is coming back bad. I have perfect metabolic health now. Didn't stop eating heaps of fruit. I do have to consume a fair bit of salt or my blood pressure can get a bit low. I guess I am just different

If someone does not have a metabolic problem and practices fasting and never consumes modern junk food. I think that some fructose in its natural form is not unhealthy at all but it should only be in special occasions and very modified consumption . It adds up to your nutritional needs. Of course if one is on a junked up diet and unhealthy lifestyle. consuming fruit won’t make it better in anyway. A big problem like this should be solved from its core.

I now eat organic brown spelt bread /potato and larger portion of porridge in the morning.... As I was one number off prediabetes I did the diet to get my number down ALL MY BLOODS IMPROVED.... I think the long fasting is brilliant ...

Is there really "too much" of weight loss? If you feel perfectly fine, then what's the problem? BMI table for sure doesn't tell how healthy you are, besides it doesn't consider water weight that people have on standard diet with carbs. From getting on keto I too lost weight, water weight, like all of us. My weight was 47, now it's 42 kg. Going back to eating carbs just for having that number bigger isn't in my plans for your knowledge.

Hi Dr. Berg! Would you ever consider a video for folks who have had gastric bypass, and the vitamin/mineral deficiencies they can experience? I’m 10 years out fm my surgery, and successfully maintained a 100 lb weight loss…but I have absorption issues now. My insurance company has no provisions for long term follow up, so it’s literally all on me to make sure nothing’s critical. I’m sure I’m not the only be in this boat……

An obervation from living in the tropics regarding fruit - we often focus on sugar and nutrients - but fruit is mostly water right? Nowadays that doesnt matter but back then; a source of water wasn't always around. So, eating fruit could have a hydrating benefit right? This video mentioned that fructose makes the body hold onto water; which could be beneficial in the environment where the human can only find fruit for water. This may sound absurd but in the tropics; there are multiple fruits that drop and ripen during the driest time of year. Mango is a great example.

@@NansGlobalKitchen Oh hi! I’m using Dr Berg’s electrolytes mostly. I’ve been experimenting with others but his, I found, is far superior. Especially if I don’t want to eat, then it really helps me avoid tiredness, weakness, ect. Also have enough salt, homemade sauerkraut & kefir from raw milk for true vitamin c and helpful bacteria, as well as phosphorus, calcium, biotin, ect. Also apple cider vinegar helps with energy as well. I try eat only 1-2 meals and get more energy from eating less. Each of these help with my blood pressure to the point where it’s healthy now.

I think it’s best to experiment by oneself. I feel better without sweet fruits 🍌 and do much better with avocados 🥑 for example and leafy greens.

With all of this information, I see yet another benefit of IF/OMAD eating habits. That helps me no matter what I eat! There's lots more to it that just simply doing that, but intermittent fasting and one meal a day are definitely very beneficial to helping with this stuff, at least in my personal experience.

Yes, for sure. Insulin resistance isn't a disease from that perspective. In fact, it's the thing that helps you to fast or do keto more effeciently.

I found that once a week or so having more fruits and honey helps me. Anymore then a day a week of fruit and I lose the benefits

The RDA’s are based on eating a minimum of (300) grams of sugar each day. So the Potassium RDA is based on eating (300) minimum grams of sugar each day. Also this is based on (50) grams of Protein each day. This information is on every food label.

It strikes me that the time of year when, as hunter gatherers, we were more likely to have access to fructose was in the fall, when fruit was ripest. That was also the time of year when it would be most important to store calories for the winter. BTW--I prefer the pronunciation of fructose where the first syllable rhymes with "luck." I suspect that marketers have promoted the other pronunciation to associate HFCS with fruit. That's a bit misleading.

I eat a bowl of mixed fruits like apples, blueberries and black grapes with oats and milk with nuts every morning. My uric acid levels are normal and blood pressure is 110/70. I am 35 years of age. But I do tend to find loosing weight difficult. Should one just stop eating fruits?

You may continue to eat them if you wish, but firstly you have to fast to remove the fat in in your liver that you've accumulated from previously consumed sugar. Store - burn, store - burn, that's how you consume sugar.

Try telling people that fruit is in no way your best friend and the worst thing about your burger is the bun or that the butter on your bread is not the issue and even though nature's bees have a hand in it, honey is still sugar, they look at you as if you've just landed from Mars. Wondering if you'd ever talk about testosterone replacement therapy for us men over 65. A lot of people my age are taking some form of testosterone gel or cream. Hey doctor, random question. I'm doing a no carb no sugar diet, there are trace amounts of sugar in the seed butter I eat- will that disrupt ketosis? Is there a specific amount of sugar you'd suggest to stay under? The only sweet I'm eating is sunflower and almond butter-

Don't be that scared of those sugars. Sunflower seeds for example have already a lot fats and pretty good amount of fiber. All that stuff slows down absorption of sugars in them, so you can basically eat as much as you want of them. I can eat sunflower seeds for more that an hour, and feel perfectly fine. Experiment with your diet, a bit of sugar won't hurt

Potassium is stored in almost every body cell and only 1-2% of it circulates in your blood. So no, there is no such a test. But symptoms of potassium deficiency are very easy to define, Dr. Berg has a lot of videos about that. One of most common ones is night leg cramps.

Yep. I can easily maintain low body fat while consuming some starches. However, I will begin gaining fat immediately if I consume more than a teaspoon or two of sugar, honey, or equivalent amount of fruit.

Either improve your blood sugar naturally ( try cinnamon) so you don’t need the meds. Try keto coconut macaroons made with / almond flour a lot of people swear they help chronic diarrhea
