Not made by FN. Only the action was by FN. These rifles were made by High Standard. Superb rifle. Only the action was made by FN.

If this is the same model rifle I've seen before High Standard Firearms bought the receivers from FN & put chrome lined barrels on them & sold to Sears, these are quality rifles

I got one of these chambered in 30-06 from my dad a few months before he passed away. It is an absolute tack driver. I have a good long range scope on it. I would compare it with many high end rifles. FN is the best out there in my opinion and that's what attracted my dad to buying it decades ago and what he explained to me when he gave it to me. I wouldn't take anything for it it's one of my most prized possessions.

The receivers were made in Belgium by FN. However the rifles were built in America by High Standard for Sears. The JC Higgins scopes that came with them were rebranded Weavers. I have one in .270 and it's my favorite rifle.

This rifle reminds me of a H&R 30-06 I had. It was built in the same time period with a FN commercial Mauser action it had a 4x tasco scope. I wish I still owned it . It was the most accurate rifle I have ever owned I could hold 3" to 4" groups at 300 yards with it all day. I lived in Alaska at the time and a friend talked me out of it when I left I've always regretted selling it. Thanks for sharing

My father had one in 270 win ,he took the stock off to have it checkered in 1962, the year I was born ,the stock disappeared ,he never got it back ,hw gave it to me in 1974 ans got a walnut blank ,in which i made a stock from I've hunted many north American big game with it ,and still do , its a little heavy but shoots excellent,, love it.

No redneckmini14. It is not the same quality as a Winchester 70 or a Ruger M77. It is much better.I have 7 of these in various calibers ( custom built ) and they are the best I have ever shot or owned. I have owned at least 1 each of all the major brands. They are just lower quality, mass produced versions of these FN Mauser and I sold all of them when I became aware of just how fine these are.

I just bought one..more for the 98 mauser action than anything else. If the 06 bore is trash..which i doubt. It looks real good. But ya never know till you send some to the target. But if its bad, i can re barrel it in most anything. So its definitely a winner. Oh and its got a 3 .5 lb trigger smooth as silk.

the hard part is finding one in good shape, I see them come in alot so beat up or with pitted barrels that I pass on them. tossed out in coat closet on a porch for years will really destroy a gun

I haven't read all the comments, but you should know that the barrel was probably made by Hi Standard, and is chrome lined. That is a great design and accurate unless it is mechanically and chemically abused to cause the chrome to fail and corrode from en edge causing it peel loose.

very cool... i got my opa's old "moose gun" a season or so ago... stripped it down, refinished it, everything fits real nice now and it looks almost identical to yours... (gotta love tru oil) anyway i now have a rifle that is over 60 yrs old and looks better than straight out of the box... i have a new scope on it as the top turret on the original is stripped now, but man what a great shooter... sub moa @ 100yrds... these are fantastic rifles and i would love a .270 version as a twin for it

This old video got me interested in my "50" in .270 again. I bought at my lgs, and took it to an indoor range and at 25 yds I had a 1" 3 shot cloverleaf. My gun has a 4x Weaver (original).. it's a beautiful and elegant rifle. The barrels were made and chrome lined by Hi-Standard. They have a reputation for supreme accuracy. haven't shot it since. Went to outdoor range to wring it out at 100 yds. and DOH!! forgot the ammo. :-)

Sears did this with everything. They had stereo receivers (amplifiers) made for them from known audio brands, they had TV's made for them re-badged as "sears" and even Atari back in the day as the Sears Telegames that was actually just an Atari 2600 made for them with a different sticker on it. I had a Sears TV back in the day that was incidental to my friends RCA even the remote was the same. That gun looks amazing though. One of those little secrets for sure. I'm not old enough to remember Sears selling guns lol. I mean at least in Canada they don't anymore I assume they don't still sell guns there anymore? Then again I've never seen guns for sale in a Wal-Mart either! That just seems too good to be true. All the Wal-marts i've ever been to here in Canada sell a small (almost pointless) selection of ammo and bb/pellet guns and that's it, no actual firearms.

I agree don't make them like they use to and Sears sold some beautiful guns at cheap prices! I have a JC Higgins Model 20 12ga I use for deer hunting & also a Springfield/Savage model 944 single shot 12ga I use for deer as well very accurate with anything you put in them! Sears & Roebuck sold to me great quality guns for cheap and to this day in my opinion still the best!

I have a excellent cond 1953 jc Higgins that my friends dad got new and used it for 3 hunting seasons before he died and it sat in a safe for all its life untouched,, I have the original scope stock and rifle has 95 % of its blueing,, only fired about 20 rounds,, but I never use it so I am going to sell it to someone who will enjoy it,, the factory stoch has been refinished and looks like a piece of fine furniture,, also has a curly maple stock ,, new scope,, mounts and rings,, and original side mount peep sight, for anyone interested in a very nice example of a 1953 jc Higgins model 50 270 win,, but it is not a $450 rifle, I have more than that in the ne stock scope and the mounts and rings that have never been used,, I hate to see such a nice piece sit unused,, but I cant shoot it due to bad arthritis,,

I just bought one of these in 30.06 from a coworker. He got it in 2011 still in the box and in cosmolene. I helped him clean up the rifle and after 3 shots, he sold it to me for 250.00 .. It is in near perfect shape and people who see it, always ask to check it out.. The quality of this rifle is amazing.. i prefer this over the savage 110 and winchester model 70 rifles i have also..

During my googling around my "50" when I got it I learned that the barrels were made and chromed by Hi-Standard; and I'll go with your comment "Made by Fabique Nationale" . Excellent video Matt , this is an awesome way for someone to pick up a high quality rifle for cheap . They come from a time in our history when attention to detail meant a more quality of product , not quantity of product . It's nice too see a video on a rifle that's not black, plastic or polymer.i I have a jc Higgins model 60 semi- atuo 12 gauge with a poly adjustable choke . I have had it since I was a boy ,and out of all my shot - guns , this one is a sweet shooter . So maybe I'm a little bit bias .
