0:00 Intro
2:05 The best way to enhance autophagy is with diet and exercise.
2:44 mTOR is the autophagy break and AMPK is the gas. AMPK also puts the break on mTOR.
3:25 These enzymes cannot be directly tested.
4:20 If your glucose is high in a fasted morning test, you may not be experiencing autophagy.
4:40 Your body upregulates APT with activity after your night’s fast. This increases AMPK and puts the breaks on mTOR.
5:40 mTOR is activated in the post meal window. This helps you body take the nutrients.
7:00 Exercise stimulates AMPK, as does intermittent fasting and taking berberine hydrochloride.
7:40 Paneth cells are key at releasing antimicrobial peptides which keep pathogens from entering.
9:40 Endotoxin/LPS (lipopolysaccharides) are found on the surface of gram-negative bacteria. Because of these, many of us with leaky gut have low grade sepsis after every meal.
10:44 Paneth cells and intestinal stem cells are intimately connected to the autophagy process.
12:20 Paneth cells control your intestinal stem cells. Stem cells help replenish and repair damaged cells.
14:00 Intestinal permeability can be tested via Dunwoody Labs.
14:22 Tight junction proteins are the mortar for your gut lining.
15:50 Dysfunction in your gut endothelium cross-talks with lung and cardiovascular endothelium.

Nice to see a discussion about fasting that goes beyond just weight loss. The pain and impact of having gut issues is a pretty strong motivation to try out fasting and it makes sense why it could help. Gonna share this with my clients

We've spent about 275k years as a species not really knowing when or what our next meal was...we developed this way. It makes sense why we WANT to eat all the time, but it's also not hard to see why a huge shift in our eating habits has caused massive issues.

I would only like to add that even when we wanted to eat all the time , we couldn't. If the hunt was unsuccessful then its fasting time. I watched some videos about current tribes going without eating for like 6 days sometimes simply because they didn't catch anything so I think our bodies are well designed to survive well enough without food just as long as you carry some body fat.

Bottom line for me, after self-experimentation and observation: LESS IS MORE. Less food, less often. And you can immediately see why this idea would be hugely unpopular: millions of livelihoods depend on us eating more, more often. Thank you, Mike, for telling it like it is. Let's get excited about NOT eating! 😂

Have been an advocate of intermittant fasting for three years now. Initially lost 60lb and felt great but the pandemic set in for two years and disrupted my sense of well being and I re-gained 30lb due to the stressors of being frontline critical care nurse. Now retired and struggling to regain that feeling and lose the 30 plus another 30 for my much awaited knee replacement. I am on day 3 of a 7 day fast to kick start my journey. First two days were a struggle with weakness but I knew if I got to day 3 I'd start to feel better. It's working! I hope to reduce all the inflammatory markers and reduce swelling and pain ...very serious arthritis in feet, ankles and knees. It helps to know the exact science of what is happening in my gut, which I think has been the major contributor to my physical dis-ease.

Thank you so much Mike. I’ve suffered from depression for practically my entire adult life. I have also suffered from so pretty bad acne. I have always instinctively known that the worse my GI tract feels, the worse the depression and acne will get. And it just happens that I have that terrible tendency to eat pretty much around the clock. I have watched a lot of your videos recently and you have inspired me to give fasting and a regular excerise program a try. I’ll report back in a couple weeks on how things are progressing.

Sad that the last 40 years has seen such a rapid decline in the education a medical professional gets. They have been reduced to chart readers that will actually tell you “I don’t know anything about diet, vitamins or minerals. You would need to see a holistic doctor.” Come to find out this is also by design. Now it is better not to get medical, care in the USA. My new question now is what type of person would pay 8 years of schooling to be dumbed down by the education system and big pharmaceutical, not a person that wants to help others🙁 only a person that wants to pay their BMW. Thank you to all of the people on utube that put out content that makes sense and is natural

I'm trying to go 30 days water fasting right now. I believe it has saved my life. Have seen 18 doctors in the last year(ill skip the part where all of my problems started after one dose of pfizer, too long a story). Im 42 and was active, not overweight and ate fairly well.. Although the doctors have found numerous serious issues none can find the cause. I went from non functioning and incapacitated with back pain, liver and intestinal inflammation due to elevated enzymes, bacterial or viral infection, body was making antibodies to 5 different viruses none of which I was showing any symptoms, elevated heart rate,, high blood pressure, elevated troponin, and the list goes on. Im now 18 days into this fast(against the recommendation of my primary doctor) and every single marker I have has improved so significantly it borders on miraculous. I wish I understood what is going on but with no education in biology I will prob never know. But whatever is happening is nothing short of a miracle and im shocked (well not really) the medical industry isn't aware of this process and the benefits associated with it. Although maybe they do and that's why people don't know.

Still in the miracle period where I'm still able to gain some muscle while still losing weight, even though I'm just doing simple exercises like pushups/squats/similar (was really unfit). And it's really nice that all my pants now need a belt, and that I've even shrunk out of being able to use an old belt. Still a few months away from being merely overweight looking at height/weight BMI charts. No idea when I should expect weight loss to start to slow down though.

That is interesting about what you said earlier in the video about allergies and gut health because I was interested in vitamin A (because of your video speaking about how it also can influence allergies as several years ago I developed seasonal allergies and I really don't like it because my job still has me outside most of the day) so I went and found some vitamin A to supplement with my nutrition protocol that I already feel I get plenty as it is, although I still wanted to supplement increase that to help with the allergies, and when I had noticed that the gel capsule was a soy product, I immediately quit taking them because I was already noticing a small shift in my mood and I try to avoid estrogen as much as possible, and wanted off of the allergy pills as they were storing aluminum in my armpit as if I was using an antiperspirant, yet I did notice that when I went from having one cheat meal a week to one cheat meal a month, I haven't had the need to take my allergy medicine or any concern over being deficient in vitamin A just because of that, and since you brought that up, I kind of want to go down to maybe 6 cheat meals a year and see if that further decreases any symptoms of allergies even further

I saw a video couple years ago of 2 doctors (husband and wife) where they tested a different drinks to spike insulin or not. Black coffee with mct oil did not change insulin levels at all, as much as I can remember.

I started drinking heavy cream as a way to top off my fat intake. But based on what you said about liquid fat, would it be best if I stopped?

Can you say more about what’s in the supplement bundle? It seems like there must be something other than the one you linked separately, or multiples, it’s just hard to know which option to choose without knowing this.

There’s a Dr online saying that omad and fasting for a lifestyle (more than a short period) ruins womens thyroids or metabolisms. I kind of feel it gave me back my life though….
