My main goal for 2025 is to focus further on speaking practice. I already know many phrases and words, but I need to move them from my passive vocabulary to active use, put them into practice, and use them to speak more confidently. I want to sound more natural, improve my pronunciation, and feel comfortable discussing any topic. To achieve this, I’m building my confidence, practicing thinking in English, and making it part of my daily routine. Thank you for these helpful phrases and your teaching style-they’re a great reminder of what I’m working towards. By the way, happy new year 🎊

Wow, it looks like you’re already well on your way, keep going, and as you said, making English a part of your daily routine is absolutely key. Are there any language exchanges or other events where you can speak English outloud / actively near you? That would make a great deal of difference. We'll be posting videos at least twice a week all through 2025, so we'll be there to help you along the way!

English is a great part of my daily routine. Since birth, I have been talking to my son in english and he is growing up as a bilingual. We used to play role playing games to master the vocabulary in different topics as well, like a visit to dentist or a hair dresser or Policemen pursuing criminals. He is turning 6 in april and quite comfident when it comes to express himself in English. As an English teacher mom, my language learning Journey never ends. I keep following channels like this to pick up natural phrases and I try to sound more like a native speaker, this is my biggest goal amd to achieve this, I focus further on idioms and everyday phrases and try to master the vocabulary of in depth topics. Lately, I have been reading and learning the phrases of criminal issues and trials. I am over the hump with it but still have a little more to go until I fell 100% comfident. ❤

It’s wonderful to hear your dedication to teaching your son English. You are clearly a passionate learner yourself, and it certainly looks like you’re on the right track! Absorbing (and even finding) C1 and C2 level vocabulary can definitely feel like a bit of a slog, because the topics become more and more niche (and sometimes more boring as a result) - but you sound extremely dedicated and locked in for 2025!

Hi..I catch that the word "expand" has different pronunciation in the accent British and American. Which is the most used way?
@highlevellistening17 күн бұрын
The difference is in the pronunciation of the letter "a". On Google if you search: "expand pronunciation". You can hear both the US and UK pronunciation. This part of the American accent is actually quite hard to get right. At HLL we never recommend one accent more than the other, we always say if you can speak clearly and be understood (even if it's not "perfect), then that's still fine!
@rafiemohamed201817 күн бұрын
Hi my teachers .. happy new year for you. my basic goal for 2025 to improve my speaking skill , i think i can write better than speaking. because I find seconds of time to express and writing, comparison with speaking directly. i loss words and expression during conversation. until now i couldn't treat my weakness in this point. what can I do? I spend many years to speak natural, but not yet. dear teachers .. please advice me🙏
@highlevellistening16 күн бұрын
We hear you! It can be tough to speak as smoothly as you write. We have some ideas for you to help you in your speaking fluency. Shadowing our accents and speed: Shadowing is a great exercise where you copy or repeat after us, like a parrot or an echo, copying our tone and speed. Another good idea is translating English phrases into your own language, then read a phrase in your native language, and try to think of exactly what to say in English (without looking or reading!) this will help your brain connect to and think more in English especially longer or more difficult sentences. Finally, practice practice practice, maybe set a time for 2 or 3 minutes and try to speak continuously, I know it takes practice to speak fluently, without stopping, and the more you practice, the easier it will get! Keep up the great work and we'll be here to help you!!

Can we use BRUSH UP without ON ? --> BRUSH UP MY ENGLISH/GRAMMAR ETC. 😊
@highlevellistening14 күн бұрын
Good question! I think you have 2 options. 1.) I need to brush up + [some] skills - I need to brush up + [my interview] skills - I need to brush up + [my public speaking] skills 2.) I need to brush up on + noun. - I need to brush up on + my English - I need to brush up on + my notes before the exam. - I need to brush up on + my cooking. Both are considered correct, but I think we more commonly use "brush up on". I hope that makes sense!
