Good question! - "It's [up] the road." This can mean a few things: 1.) It's north of here 2.) It's up hill 3.) It's above you (inside a building, maybe go up the stairs, or go up in an elevator) - "It's [down] this road." This can also mean a few things: 1.) It's south of here 2.) Continue the way you are going now 3.) It's down hill 4.) It's below you (go downstairs / go down in an elevator) "Down" is much more commonly used in most cases, regardless of direction, but some people like to be more specific. I hope that makes sense!

In British English it’s really hard because they’re said very similarly! In American English we tend to say d’you for do you and jyou for did you 🙃
