It’s like the fog has lifted and I finally understand what you and other accomplished sharpeners mean by feedback. I’m developing an understanding of what needs to be done based on what I’m seeing and feeling, but most of all is the audible feedback I get when my angle is on point. I actually find myself closing my eyes from time to time and my edges are improving by leaps and bounds. I was trying to copy exactly what you and others do instead of understanding and adapting concepts. Many thanks.

Nice 👍 . No one can argue with those results. I wish i had the dexterity to sharpen on a bench. I hold stone in hand, which i think has a lack of angle control.

You'll probably never see this but how does it wear? 1mm thick substrate is pretty thin if the binder breaksdown quickly compared to venev/naniwa.

You do any stropping? I only see satisfying results when I strop, can't seem to get it to a clean shaving sharp just off the stone. Think it's my technique? Or is stropping just really that important.

He stropped ON the stone…

@@Alejandro0__123 YUP, that's something that I found was really important 6 months ago. It was very important for me to do light passes on the stone to remove the remaining bur, at the time I was sharpening a pretty low quality steel so it was way more important.
@Alejandro0__123
@Alejandro0__123 6 ай бұрын
@@tearsien yes sir, I agree. Low quality, soft steel can be very stubborn and I too just started stone stropping them that way. I wish my family and friends had better steel for me to practice on, considering all the dang money I’ve spent on stones/ sharpening supplies. 😂

Could you tell me a bit more about this knife? I've seen it in a few of your videos. First, I thought I would see your maker's mark on it, but I don't think it is one of your designs. Also, it has more patina than I expected. I really need to keep practicing my technique.

Impressive mister 👍 In your opinion how many "sharpenings" would it take a typical person to get decent results (like, better than a factory edge) training for this technique ? When I see that, it makes me proud to have acquired this little gem with your logo on it : kzbin.infoL-3U86trUms
