A terrific car but much more importantly you are making progress. You sound very much like the old Steve. Physically you've slowed down a bit but that will come. It just takes way too long. Looking good, Steve, keep at it. And best wishes for continued, successful recovery.

As a young teen back in the mid-70’s, I bought an orange '67 fastback Mustang I discovered on a backlot of a Redford MI Ford dealer, perhaps a trade-in. It didn’t have a trunk floor, presumably to save weight, and all that remained was the gas tank and a rear-mounted 12v starting battery. The engine bay was stuffed with a 390, tube headers, an aluminum high rise intake, a Holley double-pumper carb, a Mallory dual-point distributor, and someone said the engine lobe indicated it had a race cam but I can’t say for sure. It had a Hurst 4 speed competition plus shifter and traction bars. Strangers always challenged me at the traffic lights and I just couldn’t resist. I won every race except one where ironically a guy in another ‘67 Mustang (but it was a coupe) started pulling away on southbound Telegraph shortly before the Dearborn cops pulled us over. One cop caught him as he passed Michigan Ave. and another cop caught me as I took the ramp to Michigan Ave. I saw the other guy later and discovered his ‘stang had all the goodies mine had except he only had a 289 Hi-Po. Anyway, that orange ‘Stang was a cop magnet where they managed to find a reason to ticket me even without doing anything wrong so I sold it cheap before it reached the point of losing my license. The first thing my eyes noticed on that green Mustang was what looked like rust on the fender bolts around 1:44 and a spot of what looked like rust again in the door jamb @2:50. Other nitpicking observations: the missing seat belt buckle(s) usually jutting from the rear seat slots @3:43, the misaligned trunk trim @4:38, the trunk seems odd with those exposed wires, the trunk gap @7:01 seemed a bit wide, the fender seems misaligned @7:23 and it looks like a rocker trim clip is visible. Of course it’s easy to be a critic from the cheap seats. Edited to correct truck to trunk.

390's - in any of those chassis- Mustang, Torino, Fairlane and Comet - were a bear to change the plugs in !! And Max Balchowsky - the Hollywood mechanic that also prepared the Vanishing Point Challengers, did all he could with that 390/320 for Bullitt - but Bill Hickman, in the 440/375 Charger R/T, had to keep backing off so McQueen and his stunt drivers (Loren Janes, for one) could catch it !!

Thanks, Steve. Good to see you. That car is gorgeous. I like the modern touches. As a long-time Mustang guy, I think it was mostly due to this vintage and configuration of Mustang that helped me choose and configure my '07 GT. Ordered it new, still driving it. 😁

My dad had 66 coupe and a 65 convertible back in the late 80's to early 90's. At that time, the price of a fastback wasn't much more than a comparable coupe. It's movies like Bullitt and Gone in Sixty Seconds that have made the fastback much more desirable than the coupe today.

Steve.........good to see you up and around! You are incorrect regarding the blacked out tail panel.....If you watch the chase scene carefully you will see that McQueen's Mustang has numerous mods, including a semi-gloss black tail panel and blacked out rocker panels, no horse in the grill, no GT emblems on the fenders and an aftermarket steering wheel, and of course the torque thrust wheels.

Engine is making way too much noise for a $74,900.00 dollar car. They are asking S code money for a C code car. People are just blatantly trying to rip people off. Funny how they didn't crank it up to let us here it more.

Not so fast. LOL. The first digit is the model year, the second the plant code, the third and fourth the body style and the fifth the engine. This started life as a Maroon 289 CID V8 two barrel with a Parchment interior and it was an automatic originally. Yup, 1968 model year with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win: 8 for 1968 model year, F for Dearborn, MI assembly, 02 for Mustang fastback, C for 289 CID V8 with two barrel and the rest is the production sequence. The Dearborn MI plant closed in 2004 and today's Rouge Complex occupies somewhat of where the old plant was. Mustangs were also made at (depending on the year): San Jose, CA (aka Milpitas Assembly, closed in 1983, this is where the actual Bullitt Mustangs were assembled), Metuchen, NJ (aka Edison Assembly, closed in 2004) and of course since 2005 at Flat Rock, MI. Highland Green aka "Dark Green Metallic" was paint code "R" in 1968. The producer of Bullitt was Philip D'Antoni who was believed to have been possibly (from what we can figure out) a very distant relative of my family. We got the tag (from the HOC website), we can brag: 63C for Mustang fastback with bench seat, B for Maroon exterior paint, 8U for Parchment interior trim, 16H for Wednesday August 16, 1967 production, 28 for possible Louisville, KY sales district, 2 for 2.79:1 rear axle ratio, non-locking and W for C-4 automatic transmission.

These cars are very vulnerable to bursting into flames from a rear end collision with occupants being immolated. Like Ralph Nader warned. Unsafe at any speed.
