@Manuel Santos I have a Toyota Aurion. A decade old and NEVER missed a beat like Toyotas generally. Best made car in the world I love Jaguars, I wish I could own one in the confidence it would be reliable, but they are a money pit after the warranty period runs out, and they have a history of failure. Less so these days, but problems still exist. The entire British motor industry was ruined by bad management and governments who didn't care. I've had two x-types (2007 and 2009) and have a 3 litre diesel XF automatic (2009). Lovely card to drive, especially the XF, which has plenty of whoosh and beautifully refined. Minor issues about warning light for washer fluid and bonnet catch. Otherwise great! Recommended. You can pick up a 2009 for less than £6k in great condition.

I drove the non-supercharged V8 at the press-launch back in 2008 in Monaco, and I instantly fell in love with the XF. They also had the diesel at the event which I found serviceable (if unremarkable), but the V8 is what you truly want in a car like this. Even back then, and after getting indoctrinated by the Jaguar PR guys, it didn't feel as refined or even stylish as a BMW 5 series, but it had so much character. And you just don't see them on the road as often as a BMW, Merc or Audi. At least not over here in Germany. In that way, Jags are a lot like Alfa Romeos - nothing truly special underneath the skin, a bit last year when it comes to things like infotainment or drivetrains and with dubious long-term reliability. But both brands can still be very charming for someone who doesn't want the sensible/obvious choice from Stuttgart or Munich. What I really loved about the car (and it's kinda hard to convey the feeling after 13 years) was the relative boldness of the design, going from the S-Type to the XF. It really felt like they had finally moved away from the "ye olde motorcar"-look and -feel that previous Jags had gotten by on. But to do that, they didn't ditch any of the classic elements like wood or leather - they just re-interpreted them in a more modern and less stuffy way. I'd buy one today if I had the need.

@@user-sd3ry6sd2t I Paid 7K for the car which was way too much. I had to replace the infotainment screen £800, Nearside front and back alloys had been cracked and poorly repaired so the tyres kept loosing pressure, had to buy two wheels off ebay and was lucky to get them for £90 each. there were lots of other electrical issues with the car due to a corroded fuse box which luckily my mechanic managed to repair. a new one would have been very expensive. I had spent about 3k on repairs and re-newals so on top of the purchace price, I could have bought a newer, better looked after model. I traded it in against another Jag XJ which I have had for about four months with no issues at all. I would NEVER buy from a private individual again. I will always buy from a reputable dealer, even if it costs a little more.

You actually helped me making an informed decision to buy my first Jag yesterday 🙈 so thank you. Bought a fully loaded 2015 XFS 3.0 Diesel Portfolio with only 36k on the clock. I’ve had a BMW 3 series in the past and also owned/driven Mercedes C, E & S class prior to this. Yes, the German quality and driving experience is there but that all changed after I drove this beautiful car. I have to say they’re actually so underrated in driving and luxury experience. My latest car has been a C class and after driving this Jag the Merc feels like an old man’s car to be honest. The handling is smooth, agile and extremely nimble for this tank of a car and the power will blow your mind away. I drove my mate’s 5 series recently and loved it. But this XFS certainly seemed on a slightly better edge for me. I’m just so lucky to find an extremely well looked after piece by its previous owner with FSH from main Jaguar dealer. Just can’t wait to collect it in couple of days so really excited to enjoy this piece of art. Keep doing the good work mate and hope to see more informative/entertaining reviews from you 👍🏼!

I’m on my 2nd X-Type 2.2, I had my first one when I was 20 and loved it but after a few years I replaced it with the final edition of the x-type sovereign with the mesh chrome grill and jag badge in the centre and it still gives me a smile to drive it. I agree the early ones were a bit poorly built and cheap inside but after 2005 they got a revamp which was a big improvement. Both have been very reliable and I’m definitely staying with jaguar for my next car probably an XF. I love jags for the very reason they are not BMWs or Mercs. Nothing against the German rivals (great cars) but there is a definite magic about a jag which you simply can’t find any where else.

Jaguars have always been absolutely great cars and exemplified a premium marque. All premium cars require comprehensive maintenance, you hear people complaining about reliability issues but 9 times out of 10 the issues arising would’ve been avoided if the owner had serviced the car regularly and rectified any small problems occurring as they happened and not left them to turn into bigger problems. The XJ series was an amazing car range - The enthusiasts still revere the E-type and it had its own niche in the market. A work colleague swears by his 3 litre X type jag and has had it for many years and it is still incredibly comfy and luxurious and smooth car. Good video as usual Matt.

I have owned a 2012 Jag 3.OD since new.It has proved to be a wonderful car.Completely reliable and economical ,the opposite of the reputed money pit.But I learned the hard way the DPF will fill up with only about 200 kms of unbroken city driving. You simply must get out on the freeway for an hour or two very frequently. Now I use it only for extended touring, and what a comfortable GT it is!

Did you try any additives to keep the DPF problem at bay Ive a or should say until tonight when it’s been attacked by some giant pick up in the rear mk4 Mondeo with 321k miles And the biggest problems always been the DPF, but it is actually still on the original DPF. I find the additives can sort out problems fairly quickly.

Bought a 2011 premium in 2017. Had 52,000 miles. Had a few minor electrical issues with the windows. All the repairs were covered under my extended warranty however, this car is a mechanical beast. Sporty and luxury....powerful! I took mine to the dealership for annual maintenance and they gave me a 2017 XF as a courtesy to drive until mine was ready. I tell you...i think they were trying to sell me an upgrade...lol but, the 2017 performance was soooo subpar to my 2011. I would not have believed it had I not driven it and experienced it for myself. Also drove the F PACE SUV...same thing. I could not believe the lacking performance. The only Jag that had great performance compared to the XF was the XJ.

Maybe I’ll get the higher spec and 3.0 litre engine in the future but for now I’m really happy with this one. Crazy to think this was a 30k - 40k car when brand new. Great bargain 😉

Originally had 2 X-Types. Replaced the one in 2016, with a 2015 XF Luxury Portfolio (V6 Supercharged) in metallic British Racing Green. Absolutely LOVE this car! Got a great deal from the dealership, as it was their service loaner with low km's and no need to say how it was maintained. A pleasure to drive and handles like a dream. Heated windscreen is great to have, as we get some cold winters here in British Columbia. Loved this car so much, we replaced the other X-Type last year with a second XF (albeit a 2013) Luxury (V6 Supercharged with a sport package) in Carnelian Metallic Red, one owner, bought from our dealership and maintained there as well, with low km's. Too good a deal to pass up! So far, zero issues with either. Love how you can go from one car to the other and know exactly how it's going to drive. Would recommend this car to anyone!

No troubles, no brake-downs - NEVER had any problems with any of the two - Service once a year, no nonsense and utterly reasonable to own. Besotting great looks - fast (250 km/h top-out on the Autobahn, without any drama, totally stable and safe) - extremely easy-driving - puts a smile on my face every time - love it!! I had a 2009 XF Premium Luxury. Fantastic car. I could drive for 10 hours straight and it didn’t leave me feeling tired. It was the last of the 2.7D engines and it had 190k on it when I sold it. Still had its original engine and gearbox. The main complaint with the earlier models was oil dilution when regeneration of the DPF was interrupted. A lot suffered premature engine failure due to this, but from my experience, if you keep an eye on oil level and make sure you get it in for a service as soon as you see the level rising then the engine can do many, many miles.

I own the same XF in black. The infotainment system can feel a little slow but it’s a tad unfair to say there are numerous menus to get to the heated seats - the adjustment is on the home screen! This really is a super car for the money. Yes, you could look like an old man but I’d rather that than the number of other things that spring to mind for offensively describing the owners of Merc, BMW and Audi. If you do take the plunge I really would think twice if you will be relying on a main dealer for maintenance as the expense could cause a few sleepless nights. The same probably applies for any prestige car purchased at this price point.

Paul Bayliss I love the car and I would happily have one. I was just trying to give a fair summary of it so had to think of some negatives. I don’t like the touch screen buttons for the heated seats, and there is still an OAP imagine associated with it, but this wouldn’t put me off buying one. I’d have it over a 5 series or E class. They’re very nice to drive 👍

I had a 2009 XF 3.0 Prem Lux and loved it. Only concerns were the appalling headlights - I had to get out and check they were actually on more than once, and the dreaded DPF. I had a short commute to work and found the DPF needing to regenerate every couple of weeks and caught me out needing an otherwise unnecessary oil change a couple of times. If you're looking to buy one make sure it has the Xenon headlights - Portfolio does, I think. That and a good history.

I bought a 2016 Jaguar XF Prestige in Hawaii in July of 2019. I loved it at the beginning. The first problem I had was the rims were 19" and scared up so I did lots of research and found the rim and tires I wanted. There were 18" and the tires I wanted came in the correct size. I bought the rims and made my appointment at Jaguar of Honolulu. When I took the car in they told me that they can not swap out the rims because I did not buy them from their dealership (The ONLY Jaguar dealership in Hawaii). I explained that I spent $2,000 US dollars on the rims and basically begged them, but they were firm and did not do the work. I took my Jag to GoodYear in Pearl City and begged them to switch the TPS sensors from the old rims to the new rims and do a wheel alignment. They agreed to switch the TPS sensors but told me they can not do work on Jaguars (At all not even oil changes). In fact, I quickly learned that no shops of any kind will do any work on a Jaguar (Fast Lube, Jiffy Lube, No one will do oil changes). Jaguar of Honolulu charges about $900.00 to service the car and do an oil change (information I found out after I was already STUCK with the car). I scheduled another appt with Jaguar to do the wheel alignment and fix the doors which were suddenly not locking anymore. At the appt I was told that the reason my doors stopped locking was the door actuators went bad. They replaced them on (2) doors and I paid the $2,000 bill making my Jaguar start to leave a dent in my wallet. This brings my investment to over $4,000 dollars plus the (4) new tires and I just bought the car! I should also say that I bought the car with 25,000 miles just for complete understanding. Door locks should not be breaking at 25k miles. That is insane!!!! Ok, so after paying the bill I walk out to my car and there is a huge 5 inch long area of scratches and missing paint at the bottom of one of the doors they fixed. I got so mad it was difficult to contain my rage after the bill I just paid. They did NOT discount the work after admitting they damaged my car. They could not even fix it that day because they had to schedule with an outside vendor for paint repairs. So I had to bring it back in a few weeks. In the meantime every time it rained my doors they started filling up with water or when I washed the car too.!!! At the next appt they (sort of fixed the paint damage). I could tell where they damaged it and they cleaned out the doors so they stopped filling up with water. This bill was no charge (Thank God!!). That was all in the 1st year of ownership. Now fast forward to now in Nov 2023. My Jag started leaking coolant. I made an appointment to Jaguar of Honolulu and the quote for the repair was $7,000 US dollars. I am not even finished making payments on the car and I have only driven the car 28,000 miles since I bought it!!! The Odometer is at 53,000 miles!!!! Explain to me how it has a 7,000 dollar coolant at 53K miles??? I own a 2006 Toyota Tacoma (I am the only owner) with 160,000 miles and only paid for breaks, oil changes, and a couple of battery replacements. How on Earth is Jaguar built so BAD????? I called Subaru and told them my 2016 Jag was in perfect condition and asked them how much they would give me to trade it in and you know what they said? Sorry, we won't take Jaguar for trade-ins. You have to sell it on your own. Are you freaking kidding me here!!!!!! I hate Jaguar and I will never ever have anything good to say about them ever again. I have to find a way to get out of this nightmare car!!!!! Any thoughts???

I enjoyed your review very much. My good friend (amazing mechanic) at Autostart, Bolton highly recommends the Jaguar V6 3.0L twin turbo diesel. I am actively seeking an estate 275 bhp when I know they 240 bhp as you reviewed is more than adequate. I very much liked the style of your review and comments made on your journey. It must be an age thing, I have lost interest in my remapped Audi S3 I have had for six years and prefer the comfort and amazing performance of the Jaguar XF 3.0L diesel albeit it isn't four wheel drive. I understand some of the newer XF's are four wheel drive but my days of leaving M3's on twisting country lanes in my 2001 S3 have gone. Anyway, thanks for your great review which I believe to accurate and light hearted!

That charged 260 quid to diagnose the problem even though I specifically asked for the alternator to be changed. . Since then the inlet manifold has cracked so i cut my losses at that point. Love your video!! Uniquely relaxing, much to my surprise. I’m 23, from the states, and will soon be looking to move on from my first high school car (a beat up ‘08 Scion Tc). I’ve been heavily considering getting the 2013-15 Jag XF. Lately however, I’ve been seduced by Mercedes’ more recent facelifts of their E class, specifically their 2014 e350 model. Also the Lexus IS 250, same year. I wouldn’t call myself a long-tenured Jaguar fan (more partial to Porsche since childhood), so I’m not entirely up-to-speed on its reputation throughout the years - but like you I’m also a bit of a sucker for “old people” things. Among the more current models of the XF, would you still recommend it against its competitors? It’s probably what I feel most drawn towards, but I’m fearful of buyer’s remorse. Not entirely sure what I’m specifically looking for in my next car, but I enjoy horsepower and luxury. I’d seek out a Porsche, but for under $20K, you don’t find many newer models. Warm regards!

I sadly bought an early XF with the 2.7 diesel, it looked like new, I looked after it like my baby having it serviced regularly, and it was valeted every month, l absolutely loved it 🥰 until one day the engine decided to eat itself 😱🤬🤬🤬🤬 managed to get a reconditioned motor for it (£5000) so as you say Stay Away from early Jags, now got a beautiful BMW 6 series Gran Coupe, 2yrs No problems 👍🏻

I've got a 2.7D S type, 165k miles and no sign of any engine issues so far. I did have an EGR valve go but that was it.

I am in the Werthers age rangeI have National Trust membership and a bag of Werthers Originals so all the necessary requirements to own a Jag.. Truth is that I already own an XK with the requisite Werthers in the console but I keep the NT window sticker out of sight. It’s lucky I don’t play golf as you’d never get the bats in the boot. You can own and love a Jag at any age. Great review.

I have a 2.2 Portfolio and I love it, super comfortable but a great driving car. Quiet, economical and good looking. I have been in numerous E-Class and 5 Series and they are hard and spartan. Love my Jag. Greetings from Hong Kong.

I had a 3.0 D XF and sold it cos I fancied a change. Big mistake. My BMW 5 series at similar price point was a real plain Jane, sluggish, noisy, 2 litres with terribly implemented (imo dangerous) electric power steering and a harsh ride (run-flats). It also had a lethal tendency to aquaplane. I was glad to get rid. My VW Touareg has similar steering issues which ruin an otherwise not too shabby car to drive car. The spec and ergonomics however are poor. Basically - nobody does it better. It has to be a Jag. You have a choice between a badly designed but well made and finished German car or brilliantly designed and not quite so well finished Jag. It is not all about the wood. The driving dynamics of a Jag are sublime. You only get one life so I am choosing the latter. A Jag is so much more fun!

Only problem about the diesels, if you do alot of short journeys you will keep getting DPF Full, ended up by selling the diesel and going for the XFR petrol version.

Imran Bari That’s the trouble with diesels isn’t it. I’ve had DPF issues on lots of different cars. You bought an XFR? I bet that’s awesome. That’s what I would have done too 😉

If the dpi problem comes up just take it for a 70 mph drive for half an hour and it clears did that with mine a year ago and had no more problems

Because i was only doing 12 miles a day, no moterway trips, the dpf would come on weekly when sitting in traffic. I had to take it on the moterway every week in order to clear it. I ended up just wasting time and fuel just clearing it on a weekly basis.

Imran Bari Quite often its too late to fix it by driving on the motorway - it either needs cleaning or worst case replacing at a cost of £400+

@@HighPeakAutos Perhaps if more people actually UNDERSTOOD about driving and HOW TO DRIVE PROPERLY they wouldn't have DPF problems. The VAST MAJORITY of people LABOUR their engines ie they are in too higher gear. My sister had a continual problem with the dpf warning light until I told her to only use the first THREE gears when driving AROUND TOWN- result ? Now she hasn't had the dpf warning light come on a single time since she took my advice !! Don't ya' just hate smart arses ???

I've noticed that jags are a steal when buying used ,ever since the mess up of the mechanical glitch of the eighties jag,I've heard from jag owners that they have had no serious issues,I've always bought BMW,and mercedes ,this is my first time stepping into a fine British vehicle.

I agree! Its usually nothing serious, maybe some annoying electrical issues, but worth it

I’ve always had BMWs or Mercedes. I now own a JAGUAR XF, to be honest it’s a lot of car for little money & a beauty to drive. Would definitely recommend.

I’ve just started working away from home again and the 300 mile journey has become unbearable in my Audi A6. So last trip home on put a deposit on my first Jaguar, XF 3 litre V6 2013 plate. Wasn’t sure I had made the right choice until I watched this. Thanks bro, mind at rest, can’t wait to get home and pick it up.

The good thing about this channel is that you review normal regular cars that the majority of the uk will look to buy not supercar reviews on things like a mclaren f1 or Porsche 917 just honest reviews on honest cars love it

I would like to say a massive thank you to you my friend. Last month I had major surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary to treat pancreatic cancer. Whilst I was in recovery I spent many hours watching your fantastic informative humorous videos, especially this one. Since I was a child I had always dreamt of owning a Jaguar with my dream being ignited even more after the introduction of the XF. I fell in love with the styling and I agree with you that the older models still feels extremely modern. Back in 2012 I had kidney cancer, now the pancreatic cancer, so whilst watching your video I thought to myself when I leave hospital and before my chemotherapy begins I am going to buy a XF. Today I purchased a 2012 3.0 litre premium luxury XF in white, I cannot stop smiling I feel the luckiest man alive, I have been driving the same Clio for 16 years! Today my dream come true I own a beautiful Jaguar. Thank you my friend for helping me whilst I was in recovery and thank you because of you I set my goal on making my dream come true and today that happened
