Sketchy tyre dealer would get rid of the original tyre manufactured date, I think the tyre at 8:57 is one of the example, as you can see there are no date marked in the pill shaped area which there is where the date should be at the bottom of the screen.

The DOT of the tires show the week (the first 2 digits) and the year (the last 2 digits). So if it's 1821, it's week 18 of year 21 :)

@thewelshrussian5532
@thewelshrussian5532 2 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up Matt, when looking for the date stamp on the tires you’re looking for something called the DOT code which stands for (Department of Transport) which is a US standard regulation for tires to check the date. As an example you’ll see 0122 this doesn’t mean that it’s a Jan 2022 tire however. The first 2 digits actually stand for the week of the year it was manufactured so an 0122 tire would be the first week of 2022. Another example would be 2919 which would be the 29th week of 2019. The NSF tire you checked and was unsure of being 1821 was correct, it was manufactured on the 18th week of 2021. Just thought this might help.

Ran an 08 Rabbit with the 2,5l engine. Ran that thing with a shattered water pump for over a year and faulty oil cooler. Overheated it, ran it hard. Had low fluid levels. Just trying to blow it up so I could have a golf shell. Never did die. I cleaned the engine up and now it's at 200k miles. Runs like it's brand new still. VW definitely earned my customer loyalty with this car.

I was a student on a shoe-string budget and picked up a cheap 1.5k E90 318i BMW (needed a larger car for part-time work), it was pretty solid apart from a hefty MOT on a pair of shockers! The body work wasn’t great and it needed minor brake work and a minor oil leak before it was written off by a drunk smashing into it parked… But I always always kept it clean inside and tried my best on the outside with my limited funds! I got compliments from mates about how well I kept it and with most of them being non-car people they thought I loads of cash with it being a clean BMW!! But anyways I cannot understand how people treat their cars like crack dens on wheels, even a *cheap* car is expensive, be proud of it and take care of it!

I run a vehicle valeting business. Almost every golf/passat/polo from around 07-12 have all been skips. I cant understand why people drive around in buckets like that. Get the kids up early on a sunday, show them how to top up screenwash and vacuum out the carpets! It never has to be a professional, quality job but just do something instead of nothing. Alternatively, this would be great for me as I’m trying to start in the trade….only thing is I’m an hours drive PLUS a ferry away 😂 This is spot on too with the amount of owners thing. If this had had 4 owners say, that’s potentially 4 dealers it’ll have been through who will most likely have done a good valet, good service and potentially even a cambelt. Instead, it’s had 2 owners and one of them hasn’t bothered to look after it 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

History is everything and it isn't too important how many owners it shares its history with. If it doesn't have full service history and the MOT history is full of fails and just heaps of advisories I walk away. I also see cars fail on basic stuff like tyres and lights and brakes etc which is just stupid, it means the person who owned the vehicle at that time never checked anything on their car.

I’ve had my 2010 mk 6 for 8 years. I treat it like the work horse that golfs are, but I religiously get it serviced and get any jobs that it needs done as soon as possible. We used to change our car every 3 years, but we can’t bear to part with it, 120,000 mile, never lets us down. And still drives like a new(ish) car, plus £30 a year road tax. It’s the 1.6 tdi diesel with extras that you’d be lucky to get on a modern car, Parking sensors, sat nav, touch screen cd/dvd player, voice control radio, and control buttons on the steering wheel. The cruise control is still working properly and is about the best I’ve ever used. Oh, and also a refrigerated glove box. Mine still has the bottle opener😊if you can get a mk6 for anything under 4 grand, snatch their hand off.

I have a 04 Mk5 Golf and it is keept squeaky clean inside and most of the time clean outside. It was a bit forgotten by the previous owner but for a 18 year old car it seems like it would only have around 8 years, no rust, parts from 2003 still in a good shape. Did I add that its an 1.6 FSI? Timing chain change and its running 10 times better meanwhile the owner said "I read those engines are bad", yeah, if you don't care about them. Bought new wheels, cosmetic stuff, got the steering done in leather and a new exhaust (plus plenty lil things for a fair price, no big investments) Since then I get plenty of buying offers from people that just see it standing somewhere. And something I didn't expect, I get praised by my m8s for keeping it in such a good shape. They say they wouldn't have the patience and will to do so to their cars. But even this MK6 wasn't the worst that I have seen done to a fairly 'young' car.

They're really not. Me and my partner owned a MK6 1.6TDI from three years old and 20,000 miles on the clock. It got everything it needed on time (serviced every time on the dot) and was well looked after mechanically. In our ownership we had the dreaded EGR failure (£600+), wonky and rough idling after the Dieselgate emissions fix was carried out (which is known to accelerate injector failures), valve cover oil leak, the rear calipers seized forcing us to replace the rear discs, pads, and calipers, the drivers door started to rot on the seam, I could go on. It behaved like an absolute heap for a car that was impeccably well maintained so we ended up getting rid of it just after it ticked over 100,000 miles. Go and lookup the issues associated with the 1.6 TDI CR and you'll be shocked. They're well known for DPF issues, injector failures, Master and slave cylinder failures, cooling system and component problems, air conditioning compressors fail, as do the alternator belt tensioners.

I am getting so pissed when i see cars abused like that. It just can´t be so hard to take care of a thing that you use every day. The car was literally treated like a piece of garbage by the previous owner. I´ve been driving all sorts of VW´s since years for ~50.000km/year and never ever have i broken a gear knob or destroyed a sunshade like that. Also giving it a vacuum once a week can´t be so hard. Also looking at the paint of the car, the previous owner should´ve chosen to get a car with parking sensors. I really don´t want to know how their house looks.

@@HighPeakAutos id be very careful with property investments while the Bank of England are still raising interest rates. Im expecting a housing dip in 2023 and maybe a while longer, until they begin lowering rates again. Thats close to the bottom of the market and a good time to start looking. I cashed out last year. Now im keeping an eye on the price falls. I may start buying in 2024. What do we do in the meantime ? Invest in commodity service companys where you can see a shortage and potential big upside. Oil Gas Coal Uranium are giving decent 10% plus returns via divys each qtr and are set to go up while property market is in a slump. Investing inside an ISA is tax free. 20k per tax years mean 40k in 2022/23 tax years changing in April. 2 tax years. Not commodity producers because they are being hit with windfall taxes, either buy the commodity itself or a service company international outside of UK US EU not hit with windfall taxes. Generally stay away from high tax socialist countries like those I mentioned.

Another great video. The thing I've found is that there are two types of people. Ones who have mechanical sympathy and look after cars. The other are people who seem them simply as a tool to do a job. Most of my friends are in the second camp. But then, they help the car market because it isn't always hard turn these cars around and make them like new(ish) again.

I used to have a mk6 Golf, if the Air Con isn't working it is usually the splines connecting the compressor to the pulley that have perished, the compressor and the gas are usually fine, a local specialist bolted it together for me and it worked perfectly thereafter, a very cheap and quick fix compared to a new compressor!

I’ve been driving one of these since 2017. Almost the same spec with a better gps headunit, fog lights and other bits and bobs. Decent cars if you maintain them which the previous owners clearly didn’t. A stage 1 remap can get them up close to 150bhp where they are quite peppy. One thing to keep in mind is these models were part of the diesel gate emissions scandal in 2015 so it’s always a good idea to check when buying one if they’ve had the Vw ‘fix’ that in some cases affected power and consumption. Not a big deal as it can be reversed but just good to know.

I'm just amazed how cheap cars are in the UK compared to other countrys like Belgium or Germany. When I heard Golf VI 1.6 TDI with that many miles I thought at least 1 broken fuel injector but no.. Instead everything else. Power windows are as weak in VWs as they're in old Renaults like the old Mégane if you ask me ^^ most 5-speed manual transmission problem were solved when the mk6 came out so that shouldn't be a problem and the last problem "it's not a true VW if there's no check engine light on". If it no longer smells like spit milk and you get some of the cheap VW plastic parts that always break like the seat ajustment leather and the top of the gearknob and you refill the A/C if the compressor is not broken also a VW problem on that era, then this could be a decent knock-around car for someone.

If people just looked after their cars they'd last so much longer. If I had this I'd slowly repair all of the mechanical bits, clean it up and it'll probably last a few years. Not worth bothering with the bodywork, just drive it, bounce off things, allow others to open their doors onto it and not care at all. Great video once again 👍👍

If you can't see the date stamp on a particular tyre, is it possible that it's a rotational tyre that's been fitted directionally wrongly ? Speaking of tyres, I have four Coopers on my car, which grip very well, but the newer front set {which have non removable valves fitted} are the worst I've ever seen for leeching out air. The valves aren't the culprit, so the differing carcass must be the reason. They do have a different tread pattern. May I ask if anyone's experienced this issue, including your good self ? Bit of a palaver, having to blow them up twice weekly. I checked the country of manufacture. Maybe they have fatter air molecules in Serbia !

@@nr1fan4all I have to confess, there was nothing wrong with the tyres after all. The alloys wheels had corroded somewhat and the beads weren't sealing properly. But they are normally the top of the line with all the bells and whistles. But they don't offer anything for the rear passengers for kids. No air conditioning vents, no charger points, nothing in the cargo area etc. Lots of crossovers offer these features on the base model. I suspect that's a reason lots of families buy them now. The new Civic despite NA being its largest market doesn't offer rear vents at all yet, Europe specs I've seen do. They want us to pay more for a crossover.
