Just worked out I first drove a Range Rover 42 years ago! I have owned them for 35 years. They are the best. You have to put up with occasional sarcastic reliability comments mainly from those who have never owned one and who keep surprisingly quiet when their BMW is in for repair. The Range Rover versatility and driving experience makes it worthwhile though. Nobody does it better - as Carly sang.

Mate of mine just payed £106000 for his. Just taken it in for the 1000 mile run in service check and when he asked if everything was OK they said " yes just a little oil leak on gearbox but nothing to worry about yet". I was daft enough to have 2 and both threw out so much transmission fluid I had to have my drive re- block paved. My wife and I used to try and guess the stance of ours in the morning as the air suspension would constantly play up and leave the rear or the front on the ground. When they work they are great but you know when it's getting bad when your on fist name terms with the recovery drivers.

This has every option imaginable and is almost too powerful and harder riding than the P525. I can safely say that the P525 is the best and most satisfying car I have ever owned. It was a beautiful Dark Metallic Racing Green with a Tan Leather interior and always felt really special. I have gone for the the 2020 SV while I wait for my series 5 to arrive. Pity about the change of engine from the 5L V8 supercharged to a 4.4L BMW V8 Twin Turbo in the new model. I have really like the 5L V8 , the economy is quite respectable. They only go wrong because people don't get them serviced correctly. The Majority of the issues regarding the RR, is the air suspension. But, its a luxury that sets the RR aside from the competition, so, if you bare this in mind when purchasing, and set money aside for when you do have issues, you can get it sorted. Plus remember, you can usually still drive the RR when there are Air Suspension issues.

I wanted to add to your comments that I believe that Mercedes have a better build quality, BUT, my RR Vouge 3.0 diesel V6, is by a country mile so much better to own and drive. I fitted a Ghost 2 immobiliser, and also got the JLR (free) security upgrade fitted. I fitted the side steps to get in and out of the car ( they are fantastic if you are not 6 feet tall ), and the icing on cake, I get 28 mpg around town driving and around 36 - 38 on motorway driving at 70 mph. I just had a FULL service ( not an interim service ) including new wipers and add blue ( £500 inc vat ) Thank you for pointing me to the Range Rover.

His resume, after returning the car, to us: never again, a consumption of min. 16.3 l on highways in Germany (ca 180 km/h), 23.7l over Swiss/Italian/Austrian passes . ---He has ordered the 2020 D350 (258 kW) Vogue with 35,000 km. I drove the RR D350, and I am very impressed, but will get a Disco 5 D300, as I do not really like to appear in public in a RR......I am a professor of physics....imagine the shitstrom you get. What I do not understand: Matt is not an engineer, but a knowledgeable man - so, CO_2 is through the roof on such a petrol, (it angers Greta Dumb-berg), and if you know how to drive diesels, they last for very, very long. Oilchanges, Engine flushing w/ every service, always let it warm up (the 4.4 TDi needs about 35 km, to lubricate w/ his 8.8 l oil. You can have your injectors, turbos cleansed every 100 k w/o extracting them. DPF ? In the last 15 years, since DPF's for Euro 4 came available, I only had once an issue w/them: on a Subaru Forester 2.0 D, a 2010, which was abused by a mother, to commute and shop around, distances ca 6 -13 km......Never regenerated the DPF. The first thing, we did, we took it out, flushed it, and then had to put it into a furnace, to burn it out. After that, the Suib made another 140 Tkm.....without fail, being used by many people. ! some of our sold Mercedes E 350's from (S211) , 4Matic are now still being drinven in D, on highways daily, all of them have the original enginie, mileages....? 850 Tkm, 921 Tkm, the youngest 790 Tkm...in D, many taxis 220/250 E classes have a million kms on their wheels !

theft block box (faraday box) only works while its in the box, a common issue is people are now adapting, example they will follow you on your weekly/ daily trip, have 2 devices, one to capture the rolling key code, and another to block the car receiving any code, once they have captured the code they unlock your car and your in and think nothing of it, then once u go back home they can use the code your key generated which was not received by the car so therefor not discarded, and can unlock your car and drive away while your key is safe in the faraday box.

Worth pointing out so you can keep an eye out for signs of premature issues with electric tailgate operation, central locking or paintwork damage. Look at where the offside of the tailgate just below the rear window meets the offside rear quarter as it wraps around above the offside rear light cluster, it's sat too high and too far out. Pretty normal from the factory on these.

It’s a shame that they’ve sullied this with abominations like the Range Rover Sport, Evoque and new Discovery, but hey, they know where the money is to be made, and there are a lot of loaded housewives out there. My next car will either be an M3 or a full size Range Rover. Very different cars. I wish I had the space, and the cash, for both.

Mat Armstrong brilliant channel. He rebuilt a copart special… and facelifted a 2015 to 2018. Loads loads changes . Lots changes. Really add up. Refresh facelift or LCi works on it. So well. So yes

Trouble is, his channel is so disjointed. He will do a vlog on the RR, then not a peep for 2 months. Mat Armstrong is more interested in his German cars.

You could also add an additional immobiliser like a starline or ghost which will help prevent keyless theft. Car crime is becoming an ever increasing problem in the UK sadly

Thanks Matt. I had my finger on the trigger of a BR Green P525 L405 with tan interior about four months back to replace my Discovery 4 and my head won out based on the engine…. Now you’ve done the man maths for me and I’m regretting that decision. Bugger. Best get back on approved used.

Great review! Down to earth, sensible and practical. I've a 2013 (2014 model) 4.4 V8 Diesel Autobiography which has low mileage (60K), all the options, nice colour combo (black outside sitting on 23" Urban wheels and linen interior with grained wood inc the wheel inside) and well looked after. I've tweaked it a little too. It's probably worth what I paid for it almost 3 years. Like you say, the new 2022 models are ridiculously expensive especially with the premiums being asked. They are quite an improvement over the L405, especially one as old as mine. But, the 2018 facelift looks a lot more car for the money. I like the Apple CarPlay addition since I only have a bluetooth link and have to use the iPhone screen. The all-round cameras inc the rear ones on mine are definitely poor quality now (especially at night). I wrestle with whether spending (probably) the value of my car again on top of its current value is worth the extra goodies....? I still have a fabulous luxurious smart looking car, huge range with its diesel engine and plenty of power. First world decisions!! LOL

This is a new Matt. Being critical of RR and converted away from the diesel v8 to a proper engine.

I agree with you Matt on almost everything you say including the L405 but I have to draw the line at adidas vs Nike.

These 5.0 V8 engines are bulletproof BUT you have to pay attention to the coolant level. They easily overheat and once they overheat they are totaled, but if you keep an eye on the coolant then this engine will outlast the car.

Absolutely fantastic video, really do love Range Rovers and this is a total stunner. I agree, if your going to get something so luxurious and refined you may as well get it with a big V8 😊👌🏻👍🏻

Another brilliant video with a bit of humour. I love the fact it's quiet and unassuming whilst still being hot hatch fast i would never get tired of that. If you're ever stuck for space Matt I'd happily look after it for you 😉

This one is actually better in reliability. Its not perfect but you can live with it really. Just get the v8s and you're sorted. In south Africa here at that price you could buy a land cruiser 200 or even better, a new 300, both bigger cars and the 300 is properly luxurious. still a good buy, but with the SDV8.

A Range Rover is the car to have, but for now It'll just have to be the Evoque

Matt, thanks for the review, currently driving a 2005 Range Rover HSE (L322) and was looking for a replacement. Your review has convinced me that the extra expense in buying an L405 is a better choice overall. Thank you.

Ahh, the familiar comfortable warmth of Matt enthusing over a Rangie. Can't wait for the review of the latest RR, whenever that is...

In other words folks all you that have enjoyed the older model and can see no use to upgrade, plus you dislike what Matt is going on and on about, massage seats and no side cushions to keep you in when cornering faster than you should on narrow roads like he uses - then I'd say stick to what you know, a in the long run, it's your car to do with as you see fit.

Had 4 RR stolen here in last few months. Yes 4 of them. I assume all with the keyless entry. And a friend had his C63 stolen. So get a box!

Surely all modern cars now come with motion sensors in the key fob. The fob activates sleep mode when no movement is detected after a few minutes thus cannot be scanned and duplicated.

Spot-on again Matt...I've always had a soft spot for a 'Rangey' pretty much of any description, but sadly cost has always kept one off my drive....But they are just so much better than anything Bmw, Audi or anything else german come to think of it!.... A lottery win would have me straight down the dealers I tell you! Keep up the good work. 👍👍💪💪

I am a total disbeliever till I see something myself... And, the new Disco Sport has keyless entry, so I dutifully bought a faraday box for the keys, thinking "this will be a right load of wank"... But no, I was proved wrong, as per science. Stood right next to the car with the box open, and the doors unlocked. Box closed, doors wouldn't unlock. ABSOLUTE MUST for anyone with keyless entry.
