The Berlin FIDE Grand Prix is the 16-player first of three legs of the 24-player 2022 FIDE Grand Prix that qualifies two players to the Candidates Tournament. Each player competes in two of the three tournaments, with the 16 players divided into four groups who play a double round-robin. The group winners advance to a knockout. Tiebreaks at any stage are played on the following day. Players can earn a maximum of 13 points for winning a leg.
Players receive 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to the end of the game, plus a 30-second increment starting from move one. In case of a tie a 15+10 two-game match is played. If still tied, a 3+2 two-game match follows and then, if needed, an Armageddon game, where White has 5 minutes to Black's 4, but a draw counts as a win for Black. It seems to me that Hikaru went "the Women's Chess route", if I can call it that. What I mean: They achieve IM and then they start streaming, gets some sponsors, create some brand,... and they never go back to "Chess Proper" (IRL tournaments). But it seems I was wrong. I don't know how he had the time to prepare for the tournaments he participated recently, with half day streaming on twitch.

#suggestion It would be nice if you could do some with games of late Bora Ivkov who died yesterday. Borislav Ivkov (12 November 1933 - 14 February 2022) was a Serbian chess Grandmaster. He was a World championship candidate in 1965, and played in four more Interzonal tournaments, in 1967, 1970, 1973, and 1979.

I defeated Hikaru Nakamura in a small local tournament at an American Legion Post in 1994 when he was 7 years old in the Bronx NY. He blundered his queen. He tearfully stood and shook my hand. His step father Sunil Weeramantry hugged him. At the time I thought cute kid. Who could have guessed he'd end up where he is today? I hear he has a near photographic memory. I wonder if he remembers that game. Somehow I think he does. I've written to him but he's never answered.

After levon was pushing for the win there were so many moments where you can make many mistakes but he often plays the best move and is one of the most resilient defenders and even in the end there were so tricks but both are simply amazing.

And he did it with Black. His prep was very deep, anticipating Hikaru’s quiet king move. I don’t know what inspires him most - his girlfriend (he has credited her in numerous occasions!), new country representing, his “do or die” to be a part of the candidates or all of the above.

Levvy had a good analysis of the game. He mentioned that the moves all seemed to be pretty top tier as far as Stockfish was concerned. Though the position was equal through basically all of it, it's easier to say Levon had a stronger position through most of it because it was trickier for white to play. That mid-game pawn sacrifice was basically forced, or Levon was going to crash through the king side in just a few moves. It might not look it, but Hikaru was defending in the midgame. On the other hand, the game ended with two white queens. Pretty crazy game.

Risky move and i think is losing for white as after a8q, aronian can move his pawn to b4 towards promotion, while hikaru new queen need to guard his pawn in d5 which queen move will be limited, if he did not guard it the knight at d2 will be pin after qxd5 which will be ultimately lose when qxd2 been play

I'm not the best chess player by any shot, but can someone explain why from the position where the game ended why this wouldn't work? King D1, Queen G1, Knight F1, Queen F1, Queen E1. And if black queen doesn't take on F1, and instead checks again on D4, then white Queen D2?

The Black Queen is on F1 after taking the knight. So after White Queen to E1 the Black Queen can't actually go to D4 but to D3, where it basically checkmates the White King. After that White can stall one more move, moving Queen to E2, but it's checkmate when you the Black Queen captures the White Queen
