Yep, and the late 40s is a time in life where you really begin to either accept your lot/results or you become desperate and depressed. As an ever struggling musician (turning 57 tomorrow) I went through that in a terrible blizzard of drugs and women and it’s a miracle that I survived. But I did, I have what most would consider a good job working for the State. Wednesday and Weekend Warrior still. I was lucky enough to find that happiness comes from within before I took a proverbial walk in the desert (swamp here) for a permanent nap. I hope he found peace out there before his demise, if only for a moment.

He reminds me of a (late) friend of mine who, into his well into his 40s, couldn't find his lot in life, left his PT job to find meaning in other less profitable endevours and at the end could never really make it. He died due to his own recklessness. It's a shame, as he was one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. RIP chad 😞

​@@marianmench7yes! I was outcast by ignorant fools blind to my ideas. You know how often you realize too late that you dont have a clean pair of socks or underwear? You dont have time to do laundry so you go and waste money on a pack of socks or underwear? Well i came up with an idea for a shop named "socknundys" with half the building filled with washers and dryers, and the other half filled with size, sex, and style sorted underwear and socks. You could earn "credits" towards freshly laundered socks and underwear. If you brought in 10 pairs of dirty socks and 1$ laundry fee you could get 7 pairs of clean socks previously traded in by a proud customer! We could do rentals as well. In the back would be 5 showers and you could purchase a 10 min shower for 2$ so you wouldn't have to put on dirty socks or undys while going to get a fresh pair. I asked for a small 2 million dollar startup fee and the jerks told me that my idea was... Gross!

Kenny seemed to be a bit lost and obviously struggling with depression. Though he most likely went to the desert and took his own life, he left a legacy on the internet and will live on forever through videos on 'internet mysteries'. I've heard his story many times, and always feel some mixed emotions about it. My heart hurts for him and his loved ones. I hope he has his peace and maybe, in some way, knows that many, many people still think of him with love and kindness.

Kenny sounds a lot like Christopher McCandless. The part about being creatively inclined while also needing a lot of open space to explore is an ancient associate of artists. Even if his desert finds were not to the taste of others, he displayed them creatively and they obviously had meaning to him. Was the girlfriend questioned thoroughly? Not assuming she's a suspect or anything. Just that she might underline Dr. Grande's suicide theory. I am sorry for those he left behind.

Since then, the National Park Service has made it virtually illegal for a youtuber to post a video on YT if that video is taken on federal land, which I'm sure Kenny was exploring. So even now, institutions cut off dreamers and artists from creative pursuits. Governments and private entities continue to narrow and restrict opportunities for dreamers like Kenny.

Vibrations coming from a cave are not uncommon, with underground water systems being a common cause for caves. It's not abnormal. His reaction to a perfectly normal occurrence is abnormal. He might've been in the throws of a manic/psychotic episode where he then correlated the natural vibration of the cave as a perceived magical occurrence. Someone in that state is definitely susceptible to the dangers of nature.

As a fellow creative, the impulse is always there to try and make your own way, to support yourself by selling your own art/creations. He clearly needed outlets for his frustrated artistic side (whatever we may think of his knick-knacks and toilet roll holder, he was clearly very creative!) and from the early days, social media, etsy and KZbin in particular, have beckoned as ways that creators can earn a living off their own output. Sadly, the reality is, for every Dr Grande, there are thousands of us who never really make more than a few quid here and there, and for a lot of us, that's fine. I've followed this story for a while now and imagine for Kenny that promising life line was beckoning just out of reach. Tragically, he met some unknown downfall just as his audience was beginning to build. Even the nay sayers who were leaving negative comments on his M Cave video were hooked. The great irony being that since he disappeared, so many other KZbinrs have filmed their searches for Kenny and the "M Cave". I agree, Kenny most likely felt so despondent he took his own life out in the desert he loved and made sure he was somewhere his body is unlikely to be found. I hoped for a time that perhaps he had just disappeared to start a new life, but this seems less likely after all this time. Kenny's final art work: he created his own myth.

Yeah this is one that Dr Grande might end up pulling,, the humor about a depressed and unsuccessful guy who came to a sad end (probably) is kinda inappropriate,, reminds me of Dr Grandes *absolutely scathing* recounting of Anne Heche's career and personal quirks,, this was a couple days after she got horribly burned in that car accident... So while she's in the hospital quietly dying, doctor Grande is doing this just brutally sarcastic analysis of her, and she died the next day... Needless to say that video disappeared from Doctor Grande's channel faster than a chocolate chip cookie disappears from Steven Segal's coffee table...

I once got lost in the Cradle of Humankind caves (where our original ancestors lived) after smoking a joint in there. There isn't much wildlife in their, but boy is that environment intimidating. As the sun goes down, the temperature plummets and its just pitch black silence. Knowing that many had died in there didnt help either. I could constantly feel the presence of something.

I use to go caving in the mountains of Ohio. They were sooo huge and pitch black. As a teen my buddy was in front of me in a cave and had the light,I was following him,he hit a wall and I backed up. My left foot fell in a hole that was about 5 foot deep. Luckily I am double jointed in my legs and my forehead hit my right foot instead of the edge of the hole. It was still a great experience and there's so much to see down there.

Although born and raised as a Michigander, I now live in Ohio. I wonder where are these caves in Ohio. I know there are quite a few however, I'm certain there aren't any near where im currently located. I'm surrounded by more cornfields than caves. I do miss the forested areas of my rural MI home there was always so much to do, see, and discover out there. I'm glad you made it out okay and for the most part seem to have enjoyed the experience! :) I don't reckon I'll ever undertake any such caving ventures. It's fascinating that some are fearless in their explorations and had it not been for people like yourself throughout history we would have to rely on our oftentimes narrow imagination of what may lie just beyond the unlit, and often desolate cave systems. @@LynnAgain83 Those caves were stupid huge. In Ohio it was 10 degrees,and as soon as u get into the cave it's a good 60 degrees. The caves get so huge they are as big as stadiums and get so small you have to wiggle to get through. Really fun and a great experience.

Maybe Kenny was trying to escape his depression, and had found that his outdoor adventures gave him relief in the form of something akin to a "runner's high"? By going public with the documenting of his outings, perhaps he was attempting to integrate that euphoria into his everyday life so that it might permanently replace his depression. This is one of those stories that’s just sad as Kenny clearly seemed to be very nice and wanted to do more than he was doing in his life and be creative, but wasn’t able to really succeed. He could have been a good vlogger considering how he did a good job with the video when he tried to find the M Cave. Unfortunately, Vlogging didn’t really become a big hit yet on KZbin, but he could have been one of the pioneers on KZbin in the genre and have had success that way. I concur with your theory #4. Back when this story was current, I was fascinated by it and thoroughly investigated it. Based on many of the facts you stated and on things Kenny wrote and said and on things his girlfriend said, I firmly believe that he went out that last time with the intention of committing suicide. One of the things Kenny said, concerning suicide, was that if he ever did do that, no one would ever find his body. So far, he's been correct. I do believe that some day, someone who is out in that area, on a completely unrelated task or adventure will stumble upon his remains. I just hope it happens while I'm still alive so I can know that final chapter.

I’ve lived in Las Vegas for over 30 years and it’s so easy to get in an untenable situation out in the desert, especially in open areas like that where there aren’t really any trails, or if there are, they’re few & far between. He would’ve known that as well, but even then, one can’t beat the brutal & unforgiving elements. I remember finding his video a few years ago after watching a different explorer go out & try to find the M cave. Obviously we won’t ever know the truth but it’s a sad case anyway

I was thinking that too. Maybe the thought of letting thousands of people down because he lied about the cave, was too much for him. It’s weird how his cell phone was just sitting there, by an open mine shaft, but no sign of someone falling in, and they searched it. Those mines go down so far, I don’t know if the rescue crew actually went down to the bottom. I highly doubt it. Ever dropped a coin down one? That’s also weird. Coins around the mine shaft opening. I’m baffled.

This area is part of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge. Drive a few miles from the Corn creek Visitors Center and it can be remote. I've done some trail running to the high point of the refuge called Hayford Peak, and never have seen another sole all day long. And to think that your only about 20 or so miles from Las Vegas.

I think that Kenny was one of those individuals that has large dreams but no real way of making them a reality. On top of being erratic, reckless and depressed...but from everything I've seen and read, it doesn't seem that he ever got help for his depression. I do think he found a cave, but I think it was only a way for him to 'disappear' and leave a legacy of mystery for himself, leave his mark so to speak. I think he went out that day knowing he wasn't going to come back. It's very sad, but kind of predictable too based on how reckless he was in caving/hiking and his depression.

Yeah this is one that Dr Grande might end up pulling,, the humor about a depressed and unsuccessful guy who came to a sad end (probably) is kinda inappropriate,, reminds me of Dr Grandes *absolutely scathing* recounting of Anne Heche's career and personal quirks,, this was a couple days after she got horribly burned in that car accident... So while she's in the hospital quietly dying, doctor Grande is doing this just brutally sarcastic analysis of her, and she died the next day... Needless to say that video disappeared from Doctor Grande's channel faster than a chocolate chip cookie disappears from Steven Segal's coffee table...

I am a solo hiker too. These stories make me so sad. I understand everything about this guy. I grew up very poor myself and no matter what happens I will always worry about being there again. Therefore, I did give in to "the steady paycheck." So unlike Kenny, I kind of have sold my soul. I try to be philosophical about it because the career does allow me to fund one or two hiking trips a year. I would rather stay gone too, but unemployment terrifies me. The only thing I do not identify with is the "I play with rattlesnakes." People who respect nature do not interfere. I love photography, but I never intentionally endanger myself or make the animal feel unsafe. I think Kenny intentionally did this somewhere where he wouldn't be found. There is a mystique about people who walk off into the wilderness (in this case desert) and never come back. People are still looking for Everett Russ. I have yet to be able to bring myself to watch your video on Randy Morgenson. I read "The Last Season" a few years ago.

I feel badly for Kenny and for his family who have no answers to what happened to him. I believe that Kenny did perish out in the desert, either intentionally or by his own neglect. The tragic thing is this: not one of us lives in a vacuum. Our decisions affect others. For example Kenny put the lives of the search team at risk. If he wanted to end his own life, which I believe he had a right to do, then he should've done it at home where he could be found, his family could have his body and therefore some measure of closure, and he wouldn't be putting others in harms way.

I agree with the one somebody else posted (which I saw, once I came to add my opinion that there are multiple good reasons someone might want to do that). In my humble opinion, someone who is having to endure unspeakable torture and/or atrocities, and/or unbearable suffering, who just wants his/her pain and suffering to end, would be completely justified in ending his/her own life. I live in the desert very near there. The animals are much less dangerous than people imagine but many die of exposure to the elements out here every year. If he didn't die from his depression then the desert itself likely is what took him.

We all go through stages of life where we want to explore beyond ourselves from curiosity but most knows when to back away because reality sets in. This man in my opinion was bi-polar 1 disorder. The mania that he displayed was his demise. I wish people would have seen through the mania that he had because he wanted to show people just how “energetic “ and daring he was, plus how “happy “ he tried to portray himself to the world, when all along it was nothing but delusional thoughts of no fault of his own. That’s such a shame. I hope that he is in a better place, and may he rest in peace.
