I always preferred ICO over SotC. Guess I have a thing with games I know I'll complete in one sitting. I knew the gates killed the enemies but I'd often just fight them all anyway because I never had problems with the combat. I think they've only managed to get away with Yorda a handful of times over the God knows how many times I've played the game. I know I've beat it in under 2 hours too but never on the PS3 version though. Haven't played it in a while so that's a challenge that might get me back into it.

Well, the art isn't drawn by the game's main director and supervisor, the person who actually came up with the game, so obviously it doesn't represent his vision as much, does it?

Loved this game from the moment I first played it (it helps that I never saw that NA cover until years later). I find fascinating to hear where you come from and how you came to like it too, how you see the game and such. Amazing video, as always, Miles!

Doing a critique of Ico for my Game Design course at the moment and looking at the box art as part of it. The US box art often goes with something like this instead of the more artistic versions, stuff with weapons and CG renderings of the characters. You see it with Final Fantasy a lot too, instead of the confident white cover with the title and the Yoshitaka Amano illustration the US often goes for the CG character concept art. Also we don't get the US box art in Europe so it's not really the "Western" box art just North American as far as I know? Sorry to nit pick! Thanks for the video!

Love this trilogy, but would have to say that The Last Guardian is my fave. Hit me in the feels. I wouldn’t want ICO to be remade like SotC, just would like it on PS4 so I got the set!

Very good vid. I actually hated ICO, because I don't like puzzles, but one day something Just clicked and I beat It in one sitting. After that I thought the game was beautiful. Also, wtf the statue kills the shadows.

I remember years ago I got to play the demo at my late grandpa's house back when he owned a PS2, but I got stuck on the first encounter with the shadow monsters, and couldn't figure out what to do. Then years later I watched a friend play the PS3 version of the game and I loved the music that played when you sat at one of the couches. Never got to play the full version but after watching this I really want to check it out.

Fumito Ueda always pronounces the game as EECO, just saying. Got to play "Shadow Of The Colossus" in 3D & it was awesome. "Enemy Zero" had me on the edge of my seat & feeling very nervous. "D" was possibly the best looking game on the PS1. "Out Of This World" (Another World) was the game that got me to purchase a SNES. As for "ICO", yes the U.S. box art was bad, but I still purchased it & loved it. Hopefully one day Bluepoint Games gives it the remake it deserves. "You Were There" is not a sappy song.

I played SOTC once when it came out ...boring, 16 boss battles in a row, with nothing to do in-between (although I have to say the bluepoint remake is incredible and I've heard it has a lot more to do and see between 2bosses") .... But ICO on the other hand is right up there with the greatest games ever made.

But when you watch the documentaries about the game or the stage talks the devs also call it "Ico" all the time and not "Aiko", so why the buzz about that at the beginning...? It even sounds way better. And the ugly box art isn't the western box art, this is only the US-Version, the European one is pretty much the same than the original and probably the best one I have among all my games from the early 90s till now. This is still my favorite game of all times and I can't see how any other could top it. The next two entries get close and share the number one spot with Ico but this one is just a weird sort of perfection.
