Hiking the Dolomites, Paneveggio - Italy Slow Travel

Earlier in our Italy trip we met a professor in forestry who could not stop raving about Parco Naturale Paneveggio - Pale de San Martino which is located in the Dolomites. As a result, we could not leave it out of our itinerary up north. We head to Paneveggio and quickly realize how fortunate we are that we are in our little laid back valley. The trip through Val Di Fassa is slow but stunning nonetheless.
We make it to Paneveggio and find a place to park prior to hitting up the trail to a mountain top cabin that serves food and beer/wine for a well deserved reward. The views throughout the hike are absolutely stunning. We keep our eyes peeled for wildlife but unfortunately we don't spot any this time around. This is early august and the temperature is wonderful, certainly not as hot as we had expected. We have said this before and I'm sure we will say it again, but this is one of our favorite hikes ever. The views of the Dolomites never get old.
Once we make it back down the hill we check out the red deer, one of the other things Paneveggio is known for. The area is slowly repopulating with endangered species and we're excited to come back and spot some of those elusive specimens.

Amazing open meadow, I've never seen red deers before. Even the views from the restaurant look fantastic. Hearty food with mushrooms after the hike is excellent choice.

Another stunning day in the Dolomites. Mushrooms that make you flap and fly 🤔 Interesting! I love the sound accompaniment of the cow bells. Your food looked great. And the views on the way back were just as special, even though it was the same way. Loved it 🍻

I laugh everytime I watch the mushroom scene, sometimes I amaze myself when I edit 🤣 I loved hearing the cow bells the closer we got to the top, I'm pleased I was able to keep the sound of the bells in the video. Gorgeous views, the Dolomites look like such a stunning part of Italy. Both of you voluntarily eating polenta made me laugh, polenta was my most hated childhood food! As an adult I still refuse to eat it, so it's funny to me that restaurants serve it to customers!

Yes, the Dolomites are crazy beautiful! Seceda brought me to tears when we hiked there. (another video) Stijn isn't a fan of polenta either 🤣 But I quite like it😋🤣 The very first time I had it was in Bologna in 2009, it was fried. Thank you for the beautiful scenery, that must have been an amazing hike! If you head down to the Lazio region, you should check out a small village called Campodimele. There is a lovely agriturismo called e spunta la luna, they serve up traditional delicacies specifically a lentil dish called cicerchie which is said to be the reason the citizens live long healthy lives. They also make their famous wild boar dish. You can also do some great hiking from the village to 2 spots, one is called Monte Fagetto, spectacular views of Monti Aurinci. 20 minutes from this quaint village is a town called Gaeta, it has the most gorgeous beaches and excellent food including their famous pizza stuffed with octopus fresh from the sea daily! Hi Sabrina, hiking in the different areas of the Dolomiti was truly amazing! Brought me to tears when we hiked Seceda 😢 Didn't know Stijn was filming😂 Thanks for the great information for some other great hikes! We have added this to our list. We are actually only 2 hours from Rome permanently now. When we made it to Umbria in our travels we just fell in love and bought a house!
