Hiking to Abrams Falls in Cades Cove // Smoky Mountains

We lived near there in the 90s. I've jumped from the top of those falls 50, maybe 100 times. It's like hitting a bubble bath pillow, but the current slams you around. Too far out, left, right, you hit rock. If you don't jump away from the waterfall ledge there's a rock. Now they don't even want folks to swim. I always swam and checked for debris first. Ice cold clear water. Loved it there.

Nice video. Me and my family walked it. We thought it was 2.5 miles roundtrip. That's was a surprise but we got it done. Beautiful and the sound of the falls is powerful.

Me and my husband are looking for an "adventure date" while someone watches our 6 year old. I think this is going to be PERFECT! Any other tips for eating or visiting in the immediate area before we head back to Gatlinburg?

Awesome! Depending on where you are staying, there aren’t a ton of options between Cades Cove where the hike is and downtown Gatlinburg. The entrance to National Park is pretty much right on the edge of Gburg. We like Calhouns or Smoky Mountain Trout House for casual East TN vibe. They also have plenty of chain places that are good… If you’re going back through Pigeon Forge one day, have breakfast or lunch at the Olde Mill. By far one of our favorite spots to eat in the area. Enjoy!

If it’s not too late; There is a Cades Cove Best Western, it’s 20 mins from the loop. The suites are huge. Nearby, check out the Tuckaleechee Caverns.

I deff wanna hit this this summer! Its beautiful but what also fasinates me is the feral men sightings that locals have had over 500,000 miles of land 🤔 caves , wilderness its all so intriguing & interesting beautiful place though! I will hopefully be taking the 13 hr drive this summer!

Yeah my kids are gonna cut up on this trail. They are awesome kids. I think they will be fine. I've walked it before. I probably wouldn't take them if I had not done it myself

what is the distance of this hike???

said the distance BOTH in the video & on the sign LOL. 5.2 miles ROUND TRIP. Average person takes about 4-5 hours to hike. But for a FAT MAN like me it would probably take 6-8 hours LOL.

This was helpful! My 7 year old daughter and I recently hiked almost 20 miles total throughout the course of our trip. Just the two of us. She hiked Rainbow Falls with no complaints. We did many other waterfall hikes. We were advised by multiple people not to attempt the Abrams Falls hike, but I’m not so sure they knew her capabilities. Now I wish we did, but we will be back again hopefully this year and it’ll be at the top of our list! We shared our hiking trip video also, check it out!😊

Awesome! Yeah we did see some other young children complete the hike. It wouldn’t be easy for everyone, but we definitely recommend it. If for nothing else, it’s just a great way to break up a Cades Cove visit. I’ll definitely check out your hike! Thanks

I always thought about doing this hike, but I'm a FAT MAN & not sure if I could make it. Plus it takes 5 HOURS...that's about HALF THE DAY just for one hike. And most likely take me an extra hour or more because fat folk don't walk that fast LOL.
