Hi I'm Jason Gathern Wallace. I love your hikes. I was born in North Carolina but raised in Georgia on the Satilla River. I've been to Fort King George, Fort Frederica National Monument, Stone Mountain Georgia State Park, Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge Park. And many other places. Now I love riding my bike or horse through the hunting club down to the river or creek I grew up fishing in. Your youtube channel is also a history channel because it shows more then books does.. Keep it up Jason..

The pits are curious. In the Cumberland Valley a patch of trees in the middle of a field sometimes is the location of a cave entrance. For that and other reasons I'd like to hike this section of the AT when I'm back in PA.

A number of years ago, I worked for a company called "CenterPoint Engineering" in Mechanicsburg. The gentleman who founded the company was a hiker & biker and named the company for the CenterPoint Knob. He also lived in White Rock Acres, a community on the mountain near the White Rock Trail.

Dude this sounds so fun! Hiking is a family activity for us. Been doing it with each kiddo since birth (now 8 and 11). Just got into geocaching in 2018. Our kids would flip to find something fun like this. Think we are going to have to make a trip from VA to PA when things clear up a bit :) Awesome idea! Thanks for the vid 👏😎

Geocaching is great fun! We used to do this a lot years ago using a device which when you put the GPS co-ordinates in would take you to where it was hidden. You had to be a member to find where they were all located. Like going on a treasure hunt and we found by searching for these we did find some really interesting places to hike to. A good way of getting out into the outdoors and enjoying a good walk, good for families too to be involved.

Those hand warmers would have come in handy for this long cold hike. The stickers sound like a fun idea. I love the smell of manure. I grew up next to a farm and my earliest memories are intertwined with the brook, corn field, cows grazing, and new calves frolicking in the spring.

The pits are ore holes, I live right off the AT a little farther south of where you are in this video. I have Ore holes on my property for the Pine Grove furnace. They mined the ore and took it by horse and wagon to the furnace.

Driving up i81 from Maryland you can smell the farm smell once you get into Pa. While watching your video, right before you mentioned the tractor spreading manure I was wondering if you could smell the farm smell. It was like you read my mind. I had a good laugh. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas Cliff.

Joe Dressler I hiked this trail with a group and the gentleman who sponsored the hike mentioned that those large pits were the result of digging for minetals.

Hi Cliff could those pits in the woods be cellar holes from old homes/cabins ???? as I watch a metal detecting channel and the holes look exactly the same. I love the plaque of the Center Point Knob, it looks kind of bronze or copper maybe ??. Thanks for sharing, merry Christmas to you and your Family and a happy new year, much love. xx 💖🎄🦌

Pa was settle in the 1600s ad 1700 farmers clear the land and used the trees for building Houses and Barns ect But they always had a wood lot or a woods for firewood. As for the manure smell my Dad called it Country Perfume. In the 60s and later city people started moved out into the country and bought property next to farms. When farmers spread the manure on the fields they all complain of the smell.

Center point knob was originally the midpoint for the AT. The trail was rerouted.

Hey Cliff, first of all, Merry Christmas and wishing you and your family a much better and safer 2021. I have a question about the Appalachian Trail...Are the farmers compensated because the trail goes through their land? I ask because I saw a tractor fertilizing a field and you strolling right through the middle of and there were no fences. Love your idea about the stickers, even though I will never get one because I'm from Australia. Good luck to your other viewers and wish you success in your tracking plan.

What a brilliant idea Cliff. How ever you decide to use those Geo Cash Sticker's, i would love to donate and receive one. I'm waiting to hear word....How exciting.

When you went out through the open field on your way back, there was a well defied trail. It was narrow but it looked like someone had to do something to make it look that way with the grass on both sides of it. It seems more than just foot traffic to me. Can you give a word or two about trail maintenance and how they do it?
@ingeborgm61473 жыл бұрын
How many miles was that? Looks far to me and I am amazed how cheerful you are when you have to walk all the way back again.....I couldn't do that all by myself! Somebody would have to come and het me. You have my admiration!

Have you ever been to a place in Mt. Gretna, Governor Dick, they different trails to get to the tower, not sure it’s open, Due to the ongoing situation but it seems like a historical area I’m not sure what is out there but I’ve always enjoyed walking the trail and going to the tower

Maybe I should rephrase my other comment there ain't much Woods hiking buddy that's all I Farmland Open Spaces you need to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway and height through their Woods now that would be some trails to see don't be such a city slicker. I can't wait till you get in the mountain so I can see some beauty they're beautiful at the beginning of your video but you didn't so much of it most people that hike or nature people we love the woods we love the water and we love anything like that or you can hike the Appalachian Trail or even better the Purple Mountain Majesty so beautiful Trail
