I've been using Hero 12 Black for nearly a year now. I love it. I am able to create great videos with it hiking, climbing, and doing other outdoors stuff. Love your videos my friend! They've helped me a lot with getting the right settings etc. One question, should I invest in the 13 or wait? Is there a significant reason to upgrade? I've never had any complaints or issues with my 12 after 1 year and thousands of hours of footage!

Thanks! I’d say the biggest reason to invest in the Hero 13 is if you want to use any of the new lens mods GoPro has created to go with it (wide angle, macro, ND filters, or the anamorphic. The anamorphic hasn’t yet been released). Otherwise, I’d say stick with the 12 as it’s a perfectly great GoPro. Glad you’ve had such a great experience with the Hero 12. My experience with the 12 has been great as well and no issues.

Thanks for the great advice, I just bought the hero 13 wide lens bundle and will use your settings. I considered the DJI 5 action pro but went with GoPro, it was a toss-up since I am new to these cameras.

You’re welcome. As the owner of both cameras I will say each has its own strengths and weaknesses but for filming in daylight I like the look of the GoPro footage a bit better. Better clarity and detail in the footage from my perspective.

Excellent video. I know you're not a GoPro tech support person, but I wonder if you could help me figure out why my new Hero13 black doesn't record any audio? Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? They appear to be identical to your settings, except I have it paired with a Cardo intercom system on a motorcycle - which didn't work either. But shouldn't it have recorded some ambient audio?

Interesting.. looks identical to the 12, besides, can you do a video on the lenses, prev interested on the new 1:1 mode on the ultrawide.. i was forced to shoot 4:3 on the 12 this summer on the max 2.0 diving into river footage nd wod of had more flexability with that 1:1😮

I haven’t gotten a chance to finish testing the ultra wide lens mod yet. I actually broke my Hero 13 and am waiting on a replacement to arrive from GoPro 😂 Thanks to the GoPro Premium+ subscription, I do not have to pay full price for the new Hero 13.

Great review. I have been using a GoPro since the Hero 10 but didn't know about the Exposure Control feature. Do you know if the new magnetic mount also works when the GoPro is in either the Media Mod or Floaty?

Thank you. Yes, the Magnetic Mount should be able to fit through the bottom of both of those mounts due to the opening at the bottom.

Yes, it appears the GP-LOG profile is the same and it has worked so far for me with the Hero 13.

Do you know what Denoise Low means? Is it the same as NR01=1 or is it something higher?

Great question. GoPro does not specify the exact value for denoise low value, but so far with the testing I’ve done between low vs NR01=1 the GoPro Labs code is definitely more noise present than denoise low. I would speculate that denoise low is somewhere between 20-30% denoising applied.

I was having that problem too until I uninstalled the version of Quik that was on my PC then it worked fine.

Yeah I read the specs on it such as resolution limits, 8-bit video, etc and decided to just buy the Hero 13. I get it that for the price it’s a good little camera but I think I’d recommend a Hero 10 for about the same price now over the Hero 2024.

Yes, GoPro has released a Labs firmware for the Hero 13. I installed it so I can see the ISO and shutter on the screen too.

Bought one after my 9 died. What a disappointment, I could use my 9 all night fed by battery bank at 5K25 without hassle, the 13, at pro settings, 5K25, overheats like hell and turns off after one hour. I just returned it. Manufacturers now sell specs, not gear. Been in the bizz for over half a century, and now you have to worry about manufacturers' lies, which fit very well among 90% of users (illiteracy in photo-video is astounding) who buy anything recommended in media, research is out of the question!

Zapomniałeś człowieku, że każdy aparat zrobi świetne zdjęcie przy właściwym oświetleniu? Nawet radziecka Cmiena z lat sześćdziesiątych? Rybie oko? Kto to ogląda? Chyba ten, co nosi okulary jak denka od szklanek. Co trzeci film nagrany pod wodą (opakowanie ochronne) jest zacięty - klatka stop! Potem rozpakowujesz kamerę, by wydobyć gorący akumulator, bo nie da się zatrzymać zablokowanej kamery. Wszystko mokre. Szlag Cię trafia, że umknęły Ci niepowtarzalne chwile (a tyle zrobiłeś przygotowań, by je uchwycić) Zmiana na rzekomo dobre akumulatory jest kolejnym trikiem, aby wpakować Cię w kolejne koszta. To kit. Uważajcie na wadliwe zaczepy mocowań kamery. Szybko się męczą i pękają, o czym producent nie poinformuje, że to są byle jakie materiały. Gdy stracisz kamerę, wówczas dowiesz się o tym.
