Gail was mad that she was fired by email because she wanted it to be like in the movies where they take you out to lunch and fire you in a fancy, crowded restaurant where you won’t make a scene. And she was really looking forward to that free lunch.

The problem with people like Gail is that with the arrival of social media like Facebook, Twitter and KZbin her power went down. Because unlike the forums and boards in which she rose to prominence the voice of users like you, Ethan or Just Some Guy are more dificult to silence and censor.

A good example of Chuck Dixon's comedic writing is Marc Spector Moon Knight 19-21 guest starring Spider-Man. Spidey is hilarious in this, so i'm surprised that Dixon never did a run on any Spider-Man title, ever. I guess he never had any desire to, which is our loss.

Last time I remember reading anything good by Gail Simone was when she was working on the Deadpool and agent x comics(which was basically Deadpool with amnesia) and that was years before they even attempted to do the movie. 🎶👻 Those were the days..🎶
@angbandsbane3 жыл бұрын
I once read an interview with Simone re: One Year Later, so this would've been '06, '07-ish, I guess. She was saying her original plan for Cass Cain wasn't that stupid "villain" twist they had to retcon as mind control, it was to have her befriend an injured pastor and be so impressed by his faith that--even though Simone described herself as a dyed-in-the-wool atheist--Cass would convert to Christianity and it would show the positives of that. If true, it's sad how much of a far cry that is from the typical SJW trope of only writing "All that disagrees with my world view = Eeeeeeevil" Edit to clarify argument

You see how she randomly attacked Lou Dobbs even though he has nothing to do with her or comics at all? This is important because, whenever people like her get into drama that goes bad, they always accuse the other side of starting it even though they usually do.

My first exposure to Gail Samone was her take on Birds of Prey when she had a team up between Black Canary and Lady Shiva. I read the first issue of the story arc and really liked it. Good art, and had a compelling reason why Lady Shiva and Black Canary would team up. It left me wondering what kind of mind game Lady Shiva would play. How would she tempt Black Canary to kill? Second issue, they capture this villian named Cheshire and they team up with her who is a nother psychopath, but they decide to trust her... for some reason. Weird, but we'll roll with it... Third issue, it just all fell apart as Cheshire and Black Canary's rivalry got summed up into who slept with who... It got so bad I started to feel sorry for Lady Shiva having to hang around those two while she's actually trying to do something... No one should ever feel sorry for Lady Shiva.

Great video. I agree. I have Gail Simone 's Birds of Prey run. It is so sad that such a good writer turned that way because of social media. I enjoyd her comics. Dan Slott is another example too. I have and enjoy his She Hulk run. Social media ruined him as well. Thanks.

Sad indeed. Writer, illustrator, physician, laywer, doesn't matter: if you let it, social media will drag you down in a spiral of inefficiency and delusion. And to make all that even worse, after you lose your job, clients, business/employment opportunities, social media will allow you to complaint againt those evil people who dared not understand how important tweeting is for you. It's a vicious circle that once it starts, is almost impossible to stop.

Man, I used to LOVE Comic Vine. Back when Tony was still with them and before CBS bought out the "Whiskey Media" sites. I used to hang out on the "Artists Show-Off" forum. We'd organize art contests and do friendly little competitions with various criteria. There was an Amalgam competition, a Costume Redesign competition and so many others. That was the first place I drew the Bat-Mandalorian. Fun times. EDIT: my Bat-Mandalorian drawing from the amalgam forum contest: www.deviantart.com/zzombiexiii/art/Bat-Mandalorian-528568493

The last thing Gail Simone did that I liked was her Vertigo science fiction - horror series Clean Room. The art by Jon Davis-Hunt is truly creepy and unsettling. 8:20 Oh, that's cute, you think she "went" crazy. She's got the typical 1990s bored housewife persona - they used to spend all their time on the internet, either trying to find men to cheat on their husbands with, gossip behind other people's backs, and get upset about everything under the sun -> the OG Karen's. They aren't born normal and THEN they go crazy - no, the craziness is always visible under the hood from an early age, smoldering slightly like a witches brew. Same lil girls that used to host tea parties, and then get upset that you weren't "drinking the imaginary tea the right way".

If you want to release the book as floppies, do a perk for a rollout release. It would probably cost more to do, so I would advise a higher price. Also posting should be optional between as soon as done or when all books are done. I would also not include the stretch goal extras, but give a separate bonus depending on what delivery you chose.

The most recent book I could find (with actual numbers) by Gail was Catalyst Prime Seven Days. It started out with sales for #1 of 3695 and by #6 it was down to 1504. But I'll wager that Gail thinks it's a very popular book because all she is aware of is the number of tumblr and twitter likes she gets whenever she posts about it. Yes - Gail actually has a tumblr account. Comichron is no longer able to provide numbers that have any real value whatsoever, to the extent that their September and October 2020 figures were basically just "best guess" and they haven't been able to do even that much for November 2020 and onwards. With the publishers probably too afraid to tell her that her sales are shit lest they be attacked by her mob of regressive fans (none of whom, it seems, buy her books lol) it's quite possible Gail isn't going to notice that she's a failure until her income drops to zero.
