75 dollars back in the day was kinda expensive, and the people should help her

But the wife was right. Working your normal shift isn't working for free but paying off the debt. Now, if the woman said she would work overtime for free, that would be paying off the debt

@@LovesGaming37what overtime is she supposed to do as a full time maid? she can't make more mess to clean

Another maid in the movie said she was making $198 a month, so $75 would be less than 2 weeks pay for them. Seemed a little silly to me the way she reacted to the request, but this woman was trying to make it illegal for colored people to use white peoples home bathrooms so 😅 this was the 1960s BTW not that far back in the day. My mom was already around 😂

she's a maid but black people were still oppressed at this point in history where it's set so she sees her maid as lesser + even thinks she'll catch diseases by using the same toilet

That's because how racism works. They inherently think they're better than someone else, simply because of their place of birth. Its so engraved in their minds they dont see it as false and inhumane. We all have that systems in us, its also naive to think we wouldn't fall into this way of thinking if it benefited us. It's kind of like saying, 'I don't see gender.' but you can distinguish male from female or even sense if someone is trans or nonbinary. While the intent might be to treat everyone equally, ignoring gender might lead to missing challenges like the gender pay gap or sexism. But we have to work and be held accountable in order to change. The goal is not to be colour blind but to acknowledge and address inequalities that exist because of racial differences.

It’s horrible. And so hard to try to understand being someone who just isn’t like that. It hurts my heart too. I can’t stand all the hate and being mean and nasty or making fun of people. It hurts me to see people physically fight too.

i understand people’s frustration but if you were born in these times you’re opinions are different. most of you probably would’ve been raised racist and that’s how a lot of white families were like. the ones with respect either were taught or raised differently. also, 75 dollars back then is probably 500-1000 today regarding their work. that is expensive back then to just give away but considering those maids were abused, not treated right, given the least amount of money, se**ually assaulted and more. she was really brave to ask too

this is not really racial problem or problem of the past. today rich people treat the poor with the same ignorance. that’s why is so infuriating
