This is why this show died after the last season! You had a beautiful character development and got two very strong individuals to love each other only to spit in our faces!! @@abheethakker Nope, in reality they would've stayed together. You know why? Because in reality people don't forget what they've learned and how it's changed them so easily. In reality there is no way Barney would've gone mad at Robin for non-stopping travels, because that is what first season Barney would do, not 9th season. In real life you can neither reset your knowledge nor your feelings. And you know what... Watching all these shows that set up two strong individuals and then break them up forever makes me think that this is made to make people believe in grey, occasionally summoned love, but not in the real one that they always show breaking up. And it works... People stopped searching.

I guess most people dont realize that this show portrays real life as it is. Marshall and lily had their ups and downs, ted struggled to find love for manymany years, robin had her heart broken lots of times, barney had his heart broken lots of times, marshall had a job loss, lily ran away and thought of running away twice more post marriage and child birth. Its not always smiles in a marriage, but its the ones that happen that are special.

They had a prefect marriage...that ended. They ended for the same reason Ted and Robin couldn't be together in the beginning. Robin's career was always going to be number one in her life. Everyone knew Ted could handle it but he'd be miserable with it. He wanted kids and she didn't (I totally believe he could handle her inability to not have kids though, but that wasn't known at the time). She wanted to travel the world, he wanted to be with his wife. The thing with Barney is, no one thought he'd be miserable with it, even though he's the same way. No kids because of Robin's inability to have kids, not a deal breaker, because he already knew she couldn't. He did however want to see his wife and do his things. The problem was never Ted and Robin or Barney and Robin. The problem for both was Robin's job. Not them being against her having a job, but the type of job she wanted and life she wanted, was conductive to a marriage, where the spouse wants to see their other. Robin wouldn't be able to pull that off until she was older and wanting the non traveling job.

But couldnt they just get back together like in the end, Ted and Robin did? I know those too are cute but in so many scenes the writers show us why Ted and Robin dont work out - and its not just because of the job. Ted never was truly in love with Robin (the scene with Klaus proves that for me for example, and there are others too). He had his love with his wife and I dont get, why he couldnt just find someone else and Robin and Barney get back together in the end. I understand that Robins Job was a problem for Barney but... they could just have compromised or whatever. See the thing is: The writers basically showed us, that Robin and Barney are ment to be. And then things just ended. Its not a good idea to ignore character development. The Robin the writers showed us loved none of them. If you dont make compromises its not love - at least for me ;) Barney and Ted were always ready to compromise for her. And I dont want to think that way about Robin, because she is with Barney my favourite character ;) Just look at those two in this video. They are perfect and they sould have been endgame :C Aw man I just think to much about a TV Show :D

Well, it's funny how you say compromises is what makes love and that Ted always compromised and before that says Ted never loved her. :p However, yes, it could be possible that after Robin settled down from her job, her and Barney could get back together. Of course, at the same time, after the divorce, Barney has had his perfect (with an asterisk) month. Also there is the easy answer of, Barney hadn't thought of it yet. Neither may want to be the married and remarried couple. Divorced once already and all. Hard for Ted to be the fave to many too, he is after all, the straight man of the series. The normal one. The every guy.

Many reasons: 1. You hinted at Barney and Robin's wedding all the way back in s7, then spent a full season and a half on their engagement/marriage only to break them up 1 episode after the marriage. You spend all this time and effort getting me to root for and believe in this relationship, and then blow it up in the next episode. 2. The whole premise of the show is leading up to meeting the mother. She appears in a few episodes and then they kill her. Honestly I didn't hate this as much as some people. It kind of works as a story telling device if the sit down with his kids is because their mother has already passed away. However, I still feel like you wasted my time connecting me to a character only to kill her off. 3. Ted and Robin were never end game. They tell you literally from the pilot that Robin is not the mother. So I never rooted for her and Ted, because any relationship is doomed to fail at some point so Ted can get together with Tracy. (Also I just don't think they work as a couple anyway.) If they've never been end game, how are you going to throw them back together in the last 30 seconds? 4. THE KIDS ROOTED FOR HIM TO PURSUE ROBIN??? What kids are cool with their father going on and on about how hopelessly in love with their CLOSE FAMILY FRIEND he was, while supposedly telling the story of him coming to meet their deceased mother. He makes the mother seem like a consolation prize for never making things work with his ACTUAL one true love: Robin. But they want him to go and bang their "aunt Robin"? No. Just no. There are other, less infuriating reasons as well, but I'll leave it at those.

Yeah it was awesome! I mean Ted was always there for her whenever she needed him, no games, no powers, just simple pure love. The kind of love that comes once in a lifetime! He deserved her more, and it was just common sense to make them end up together after all. Barney loved her for a season and a half, while Ted didn't even skip one without loving her. He even let her go just so she could be happy, and I bet that's the hardest thing someone might do.

I hate/love the ending. for few simple reasons: I hate that they made all season based on swarkles wedding, and then they broke them up. if you wanna break them up fine, but don't focus whole season on the wedding. 2) I hate that the main plot it's about the mother (that's basically whole reason of this show) and then they don't even show her with Ted that much. + they kill her off. she deserved more scenes with the gang, with the kids and most importantly with Ted. 3) I guess I get why did Robin and Barney got divorced. they were too similar. I love them together, but true is that when you're in relationship where the two people are really similar, it doesn't work out most of the time (at least from my perspective). 4) yeah sure, swarkles divorce and death of Tracy is really bad, but that's life. these things happen. so we can't be mad at them when they just tried to make it realistic. but there's also things as I said, at least they should've given us more scenes with her if they wanna kill her etc. that's my opinion on the finale. @@cryptojihadi265 i disagree, i think the first time round it was indeed pretty hard to sell, but their engagement felt pretty natural to me, as they had the time to grow barney as a character and had changed his character from just being a desperate womaniser to an actual human being. i think the real kick in the teeth was spending a season on their marriage only to blow it up 15 minutes into the next season... just so they could end it with the worst ending possible.

I honestly don't mind that Robin and Barney divorced, Robin and Ted were sort of meant to be from the first time they met. What i do mind tho is that Barney after such amazing developments, going from a one night stand guy to a relationship guy with Nora, Quinn and then to marry Robin to only go back to bimbos. Barney got a daughter tho which i think is amazing but he should have ended up with someone, preferably Quinn as her and barney were very similar, Nora was very sweet but very different than barney tho.
