Thanks for this video. I've struggled with hip swallowing for so long but I just couldn't mentally visualize how to correct it. Thank you so much sir. This one video has helped me with something that had taken the fun away from the game for me. Tremendous distance loss and inconsistencies that go on and on. One practice session and I feel exactly what I felt when I was a 8 handicap. I fell all the way to a 20 handicap but now I see the distance and crispness that I've been missing for a couple years. I am extremely grateful, thank you again for what you do!

Thank you so much for posting this video. I have been an abuser of the early extension aka humping the goat. I watched your video and then did some drills with my clubs in-front of the mirror to get a feel for it. Afterwards, i went to the range to go try it out. I struggled for a little while before i could get some good contact. I made some little adjustments to make my swing easier. I changed my address position to be more upright and closer to the ball than i have previously. On my downswing, i was able to lower my backside before turning through the ball. The result was amazing, straight iron shots, good divots (i could never compress the ball before) and more consistent results. For the first time i hit 8 out 10 greens from 180 yards! I still need to work on a more consistent downswing but i love it! Thanks so much!!!!

I confess to being a goat humper as well--thin iron shots flared off to the right constantly, so much so that I put my bag in the basement for a month last summer. Just wondering if you've been able to see consistent gains on the course since you began using this squatting technique.

I struggled with early extension for awhile. And this drill helped but didn't really cure it for me 100%. But then I learned that early extension is usually combined with the weight going to the front or ball of your left foot on the downswing. So by consciously shifting my weight to the heel of my left foot on the downswing, as opposed to the front, it automatically stopped me from early extending, and was a pretty easy fix.

Newbie here trying to improve my game. I golf 6-10 times a year and through trial/error figured out if i “squat” i could hit my irons better. Never knew why and thought maybe my clubs needed adjusting (more upright lie angle). This video explains why keeping my hips deep results in better strikes and it’s more about my swing and less about the club. So thumbs up to you for this video.

Thank you so much Zach. I am working to achieve a natural, istinctive, effortles and powerful swing. In these days i understood that a simple drill that works to me is the sensation, during the backswing, to sit with my left bullock on my left heel, while keeping the pivot of the swing or my right leg. Your video just explains in clearer and professional way the result of my personal drill . I really appreciate sharing your teaching. Unfortunately i do not live in the States!!

Mr. Allen, thanks for this video. Because of your video I finally realised what caused my slice: I extended to early. I saw the video only yesterday and went to the practice today. It could be a real gamechanger for me, because I never hit better: higher, more carry, much further and not one slice with my driver. This honestly is the best tip ever: it improved the ballflight so much. A very happy golfer.

This is a simple but great explanation of this. Maintain your spine angle, get that 2-4 inches of head drop, shallow the club automatically. Perfect.
@RMcBee100 Жыл бұрын
Thx Zach - Best video of golf? Probably not. But, it was perfection for me. The baseball analogy clicked - not only as far as the butt extension goes but, also for the whole swing. When the ball is coming in to that 3 o'clock position, we bend our leading leg; we rotate the right butt cheek back; hands low. The ball is almost at the 3 o'clock position. What do we NOT do? We don't start the hit with our hands. We don't move our head forward. If we moved our chest forward at this point, we'd foul off to the right. If we moved our chest up, we'd foul back our pop up. We DO pause. Our hands are light on the bat. Let the bat level out. Our head is back. Our right butt cheek moves down as our right foot starts to push off, pulling the batt handle around. We meet the ball at exactly the 3 o'clock position. Our head is behind the ball for max power. Our right side is bent over going into the ball. Immediately after hitting, the arc is up to the finish. This may not work for you but, for me, it put together the whole butt extension thing as well as everything else. I took it out to the range this morning and, it worked 95%. I'll take that. As far as 'boxing out in basketball'? I don't even know what that is. But then, I'm only 5'' 6" - not exactly first picked for basketball....😂

This is so true. I tried this slight squat move as I start the downswing. I hit the ball so much better. You need to committed to the shot. Need to be strong on the shot through impact and follow through. Left shoulder socket behind ball at impact. Head down and behind ball at impact. After impact; start pulling up left hip socket and left shoulder socket, make a V with both arms extended straight and the club shaft about 2 feet pass the ball at impact. Finally complete your follow through. It takes a lot of practice to get used to this. Don't give up easily. Check out McIlroy iron shots. You will see the mentioned procedure on how to solidly hit the ball. Cheers!!!!!!!!!!

@kbkesq8 жыл бұрын
Great video. True fundamental and if one notices a tightness anywhere while training this, that's a sure sign you need to work on mobility in that area. Many of us come out of posture to protect our low back. We aren't machines or super mobile like pros, so we have to assess whether and how we can achieve this fundamental now that we know it is so important.
@cryptotroll12325 жыл бұрын
After years of trying to improve this I have determined that early extension is actually a byproduct of extending the arms and club at the ball instead of releasing to the left after the ball. One has to train an entirely different feeling of swinging through the impact zone to cure early extension. When I have tried the technique of using a rod like in the video it just hurt my back and I was unable to do it. Once I started understanding that I was improperly extending my arms and clubs at the ball, I made progress.

I tried this squat at the start of the downswing move at the range yesterday. I also tried a timed lift of my pelvis at impact, and added a slight downward pressure with my right hand at that same time. I started creaming the ball. Maybe, I got 15 more yards out of my wedge.

Now you talk about the move of flexing the knees more in the downswing. I've heard that by doing this and then extending the front leg (left for right handed golfers) that you use the ground forces to gain more distance. The question would be .... when do you start to straighten the front leg? Do you push against the ground with your left foot through impact??? Is it something you consciously do?

Wow...I never thought of this before. Superb! Now I have a question. It would seem to me that with your rear end so much more behind or deep, the weight on your feet has to be on the heels of your feet and not the balls. I'm not sure but I think I heard that Hogan said the weight was on the heels. As well, lately I have been pushing the ball, trying to rotate my hips as fast as possible through impact. I wonder if they're coming forward like you showed in your video and that might be why I'm pushing the ball. Your thoughts on both issues...weight on heels and hip rotation too early???

Dear Coach Allan .. hw r u? I hv read n watched this drill using many kinds of props BUT, ONLY u hv asked us to push our rear against the rear prop which keeps us low .. opposite to what other coaches are advocating leading to early rise due to us trying to keep our balance .. tQ

swish1onu tiger woods doesn’t struggle with early extension so this video isn’t for him. Watch the young lady toward the end of the video. Does it look like she’s squatting in the after video? No....because feel is not real. If you early extend, try this. You won’t be disappointed!

@gieusahaggis62937 жыл бұрын
Zach, I do the 'squat' pretty well at the start of the DS but then it looks like my right knee and leg shoots out toward the ball rather than toward the left leg. Do you place any value on hitting balls with the right heel planted until after impact? Mine is well off the ground at impact and the right knee is much closer to the ball compared to where it started.

It makes so.much sense, but mentally if I dip down like that, I feel I will hit the ground first before the ball..If I could over come that, I think I would gain more yards with my irons, I find it easier and essential for driver, because it's on a tee, I have room for error..

Great video. I am a 4 handicap with early extension issues. Only resolved when got physically evaluated and found out I have tight hips and inability to do a deep squat. If you are like me you need to do hip stretches and work on squats. After a month the problem went away. This was good instruction but worthless if you are physically unable to avoid early extension and you may not even be aware that physical limitations are the issue.

I've seen my swing on film recently and i can see i'm losing my spine angle(i'm quite unfit to be honest) but i'm also swinging ott(divots going left), would reducing early extension improve this ott problem or is there no connection between the two? Great improvement by the student. However, her shoulder turn stops too early while the arms keep going creating an almost 'fake turn'. Therefore, her chest has a massive head start back to the ball which will make it hard for her to get her hands in front at impact. This is the problem with most golfers.
