Lyrics: When your heart gives out and your love collapses When the hand that never lets go is there no more When you reap and sow only throe and resentment When there's no one else but you to blame for When all you ever wish for is to go back once more When all you ever wish for is to change it all When all you feel is remorse, pain and regret When you dwell in the past unable to move on And we drift far away in our dreams Gather further distance while we sleep Build a wall of glass thick and deep We hear but choose not to listen And we drift far away in our dreams Gather further distance while we sleep Set all the bridges in flaming fire Leave all the love we had behind When you realize that your life is a one-way road When you realize that there's no point of return When you understand that you can't go back anymore When you understand you can only move onwards And we drift far away in our dreams Gather further distance while we sleep Build a wall of glass thick and deep We hear but choose not to listen And we drift far away in our dreams Gather further distance while we sleep Set all the bridges in flaming fire Leave all the love we had behind Slow down We need to slow down We need to slow down so I can catch you We need to slow down so I can catch you We need to slow down so you can catch me We need to slow down so I can catch you We need to slow down so you can catch me Slow down

This growling is actually believable. I usually can't stand them, because so often they sound like teenage bost - 'being scary'. But this sounds like real suffering in the voice, like with compassion, empathy - and it turns out impressive and captivating, when usually the growls kill me the mood.
@michaelforsythe43352 жыл бұрын
Insomnium was the band that single-handedly turned me on to death metal. I never was into the 'growls' either; never understood them. Then came Insomnium. Put it this way - since the first time I popped 'One For Sorrow' into my CD player, I've seen them play live over 10 times and have had to travel each time. Met them multiple times. Very good guys.

The entire When a Shadow album is great, and is nice to build into Songs from the North, then further back where they are less melodic and more doom. It's funny that you mentioned this shift in you about the growling voices in metal. Like, I can so relate to that! I had the same thing happen to me maybe 10-12 years ago. I used to listen to music with clean vocals only, and when I was giving another shot to Dark Tranquility (which I didn't like as a teenager), I had a revelation about it. It was the song Icipher. I still remember standing at the bus stop on a super regular day and listening to this song, and how I finished it only to realize I only immediately wanting to listen to it again, like if something had struck me. I hope you do one of their songs next!
