Yoga Q & A! Hip Opener yoga poses stretch the legs, inner thighs, groins, hips and muscles of the back. I've been getting a lot of questions about hip issues and overall tightness in the hips. This is a great little stretch sequence that you can blend with your daily routine or supplement into a current yoga practice. Also yummy before bedtime!

I appreciate your willingness to talk about how you have some trouble yourself with this, and that one side is definitely easier to open than the other. It makes me feel a lot better about my own hips being asymmetrical in their stretchiness. 🙂

I've got quite flexible hips and I've never found anything that's done anything particular for them but after trying the third sequence for a couple of days they feel so different! Stronger, steadier, I walk better and I can run more comfortably! I'm amazed, thank you so much! ♥

Hi Adriene, I would really appreciate it if you could take time to answer my question. As this video was posted 8 years ago, I’m wondering if your hips have gotten more flexible, for instance doing that pose at 3:58 (which i’m not sure the name of it), has your knee been getting closer to the other feet? Because when I saw your video, I’m surprised because THAS EXACTLY WHAT I’VE BEEN STRUGGLING WITH (except i’m even worse), while everyone else looks very comfortable being in that position. Some said it’s because of the femur moves further forward in the hip joint than it should, and so there’s nothing to do about it to make it more flexible. And that’s why I really would like to know more from your experience. 🙏🏻 Thanks for the great video Adriene!

Thanks so much, Adriene! This really helped my tight hips. I'd love it if you could do a sequence focussing on piriformis syndrome, which impinges on so much else (sciatic nerve, TFL, hips, upper quads, etc.)

WOW! I just did this one for the first time and there is a lot of gurgling going on in my stomach, and release of gas, which is relieving the painful bloating I was experiencing! I had no idea doing yoga would be so powerful! I want more of this! I will find how to start out and practice these gentle movements and poses that causes my body to respond so deeply. Feels really good. Feels right. Maybe getting old won’t be so awful if I can keep everything functioning in a natural way which means without drugs! I appreciate that you are freely sharing this experience of your yoga. I came to you when I needed what you had just so perfectly - I don’t know how to say how this happened. ??? I am grateful. Question! I have a beautiful addiction to your videos Adriene, I can't thank you enough for your channel. Do you think you could squeeze in a chest/shoulder openers video? I've been having tight, painful psoas/hip flexors for a while now, and this video really helped me! I keep coming back to this and Lower Back Love, and there are more videos I'd like to try if I had more time in my day (I'll find the time). I enjoy Adriene's spirit and humor, which make the practice more accessible for all of us. Love Love Love Yoga with Adriene!😀

I agree - I love Adriene too, but Erica Vetra is also very good but she does not post videos nearly as consistently. Variety is good - so try Workout Hotel for pilates-based exercises.

Adriene, your videos are always on time! Namaste to you and all yogi soul siblings out there! Day 9 of May 2019 Calendar. I hadn't looked ahead on the calendar or playlist. I was sitting to do my pre-yoga meditation and my right hip has been feeling tighter than usual. I thought to myself: "I need hip openers". And that's exactly the focus of today's video.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you. I have always struggled to get into yoga due to being so inflexible, but your beginners videos have really helped me progress. This hip video has really helped cure a long term hip issue and is now pain free. Thanks again for all your great videos. Richard :)

I've been following you for about 8 or 9 months now.... Just found this video and see that it's 8 years old... So you may not even see this comment, lol. I have trouble coming in to a forward fold while sitting with my legs stretched out in front. I don't have any other issues with a forward fold in different positions, just that one. You're an amazing instructor and I would love to see that in a video. If there's one already on your channel, I apologize and I'll try to find it. Thank you! 🥰

These are delicious!! Probably my favourite poses in all the yoga I've tried. I'm not sure why but I always feel better about myself and my body and my day after doing these! Probably to do with all the emotions in the hips... definitely bookmarking this one for future use!!! Thank you Adriene!

Wow that short video is amazing and really helpful! I run lots and now realise how tight my hips are, I struggled to get my foot onto my knee even when sitting on a block. I did manage it though and it felt great to hold there for 20 secs. Thanks Adriene! 😅🙌🏼

I've reviewed a lot of beginner yoga videos and found yours to be the best. I'm a powerlifter and have to learn different movements for my body to keep current injuries, and possible future injuries, at bay in order for me to continue lifting heavy. Thank you for your clear explanation and brilliant approach to helping beginners! Keep it up!

I am using essential oils to assist my journey to overcome spinal stenosis pain, but daily Yoga with Adriene is my foundation. I have started an office work about 6 months ago Its terrible for spine for hips for legs I have started waking up because of the pain in my back when im breathing deeper... but your exercises are helping me a lot ! I had been feeling strain on my lower right hip. After I did my regular yoga routine, I did this to end my yoga and the pain was gone! Thank you so much and more power to you, Adrienne 🤩🤩🤩

Always faithful! ;) There are almost seven years, i had a problem with my lower back and for seven months i couldn't walk very well. It's thanks to Yoga i have increased my resistance and this practice has been very good for my hips, muscles of the back. It feel good.

Adriene, I'm having sciatica pain in my left hip and have been to the chiropractor several times. It has helped some, but I did this video today and it's amazing how much better my hip feels! Thank you for always having a "go-to" video for whatever I'm needing.

I just had to comment...... I know this is an older video, but I've only been doing Yoga (first timer) with Adriene for 3 months. This video is AWESOME! I've had a muscle injury that has taken over a year to heal in my left hip and I felt INSTANT relieve after this! My body THANKS YOU SO MUCH for you sharing your gift with us! Hi Adrienne, Before the stay-at-home order here in Michigan, I was doing yoga 3 times a week at my gym. I have been doing your videos 3-4 times a week and I like your style. I have issues with hip and lower back tightness so I appreciated this one and will continue with my practice at home.

Day 9 and I'm feeling fine. I think I would recommend stretches for legs ( splits related) cuz I think I'm a bit weak in this area of flexibility. Thanks a lot Adriene. #ywaOPEN

I loved this! And I loved you! You were a hands down-AMAZING teacher here. I know this video is 8 years old, but I noticed some trouble with the last pose with just lifting my legs while on my back. Lifting them straight up into the air was very difficult, and I feel as if I didn’t struggle with any of the other, I loved them! I’ll have to work on this, I’m 16 and this is my third or fourth time trying to get back into yoga. I’ve been so busy with school & I miss this.

Oh my gosh this was great! I used it for part of my workout warmup. I noticed a huge difference during my workout AND after, I could move my hips so much easier! Nothing felt cramped. 👍

Hi Adriene! You are my confinement bestie! My days wouldn't be the same without my daily Yoga with Adriene. I would love more hip flexor stretches. This felt really good, but didn't quite tackle my tight hip flexors (front of the hip) as much as I needed it to. Hoping you can help a girl out!

Not a question...but just wanted to say I really like your videos; you do a really job of walking through the details of each movement. And its nice that you don't take yourself too seriously either...more enjoyable to follow along with than most practitioners I've watched on KZbin

My right hip and lower back have been in constant pain for the last several days, so much so that I have put my daily practice on hold the last three days. I eased back in with this today and I am writing this ten minutes afterward, my hip has finally stopped hurting. Now I am sure the pain will be back as it is chronic but next time I will do these exercises o the first day. You are beautiful, thank you for the pain relief.

The best tip I can give you is to slow down and give it time. In time you will see and feel the space unfold - but dang it - these things take time. Sit up on a few blankets- throw some music on and let it unfold slowly. Let the breath nurture the tight spots and of course, ease up when you feel any pain. Time!!! xoxo
