Dimash is a 29-year-old Kasakh vocalist and composer; he speaks kasakh, russian and english and is learning mandarin chinese. He sings in more than 14 languages, plays 7 musical instruments. He graduated from the Kazakhstan University of Arts with a master's degree in composition and a doctorate in musicology. He also dances, acts, and is an advertising model (he is 6.3 feet tall). He has received countless awards and honors around the world. Dimash is a Kazakh singing here in French. Believe it or not, this was the first time the audience, the other competitors and China at large had ever seen Dimash. Background - Dimash was only 22 years old when he opened and won the very first episode of the “I Am Singer” Chinese show in 2017 with this performance of SOS. The show was a showcase competition for well known, professional Chinese singers, with a voting audience of 500 people from the music industry. Dimash was the youngest and the first foreigner ever to be invited on the show as a wildcard and, as a total unknown in China, he wasn’t expected to last more than half the show. He astonished everyone, came second in the competition, an overnight sensation in China (600 million views of this performance) and a global phenomenon. He turned 29 in May. Dimash is university trained in classical (bel canto) and contemporary music and has been training (voice and piano) since he was 5 years old. He has degrees in voice (classical), contemporary music, completed a Masters in composition and is currently completing his Doctorate in Musicology. He was offered a position with Astana Opera but declined to follow a career in contemporary music, mixing classical elements and traditional Kazakh music with pop music. This was Dimashs' first appearance on an international level. He was invited to compete in a Chinese singing competition that had been only for professional Chinese singers. He was the first foreigner and the youngest in the history of the show. The song is in French. At that time, Dimash only spoke in his native tongue, Kazak, and Russian. They had a week to prepare for each performance. His first four songs were in French, Russian, English, and Mandarin. They knew nothing about Dimash, not even what he looked like, until he appeared on stage, not even the other contestants. The next day they had to provide him with security guards, and he attained over 6 million followers on Weibo, the Chinese version of Instagram. Believe me, this is just the tip of the iceberg. This is from a Chinese Show, I Am Singer Season 5 in 2017, Dimash was 22 at the time, and his first performance on a Chinese show, as he is from Kazakhstan. Dimash is said like Dee-mosh like a mosh pit, not mashed potatoes. He has sung SOS hundreds of times, most of them on his channel has English subs. Its from 1978 French/Canadian Rock Opera called Starmania, so this song is in French.

Thank you for discovering Dimash and welcome to a beautiful world of music. I’m a bit late🫣 Dimash is a 29-years old singer from Kazakhstan and believe me, you’ve seen nothing at all. In my opinion you have discovered the best singer in the world. He has perfect pitch and currently has a vocal range of 7,7 octaves (vocal fry C1 (B0) - whistle D8 off the piano). That means he hits notes in almost 8 octaves and sings consistently in 6 octaves. Not in one song (mostly😅). At least what he has shown us so far. And this in all the different registers . His voice is the result not only of his God-given talent, but also of his almost 25 years of daily hard training. From the age of 5 he attended music school in his hometown of Aktobe. He plays several instruments like piano, dombra (a kazach instrument), drums, marimba and more. He has classical as well as contemporary vocal training and sings in different genres from opera to pop, jazz, Kazakh folk, ballads and he even raps a bit. And often he skillfully mixes several genres in one song. Mainly classic and pop, so he created a new crossover genre. And meanwhile in more than 10 languages. The latest songs (from Tokyo Jazz Festival in November 2021) are Ikanaide in Japanese and at his concert in Almaty on September 23, 2022 he sang a new song in Spanish (about 7 languages in one concert!). And at his concert in Yerevan on April 29, 2023, he sang an Armenian folk song for the first time (it has to be about 15 languages so far). He sings no mainstream and is a completely independent artist. He is managed by his father Kanat, who founded his own company "DimashAli Creative Center". The logo can be seen at the beginning of many of Dimash's videos. Maybe that’s the reason you never heard of him yet. He doesn’t sell his soul to a music label. He doesn’t want to be dictated by money when he has to sing what, when, where and how. Many of my favorite songs are in his native tongue. He is a nice, intelligent, respectful and humble person. Sometimes he also can be a little bit goofy, and I love it❤️. He respects people regardless of their original, religion or profession. He truly loves his homeland Kazakhstan and his people with all his heart and always shows it with pride in many of his songs, concerts and interviews. During his concerts in Dubai, Düsseldorf and Prague in 2022, before he performed his song War And Peace, he told the audience he loves all people in every country. And there are no bad nations (only bad leaders). And I absolutely believe this. His concert in September 23, 2022 was in his hometown Almaty, it was so amazing and it lasts almost 4 hours. Believe it or not but he really gets better and better. Every time you think you know him and his art, you realize you are so wrong. He's very spiritual and thankful for the gift God has given him. But he also works very hard to constantly improve his vocal skills. He said in an interview that he trains at least 3 hours every day, if necessary, it can be 10 hours to prepare for a concert. He loves swimming and also a lot under water. Maybe that's why he has this large lung capacity to hold the notes as long as he does. He's a singer you can't put in any box. He sings almost every genre there is. Every time you watch a video, expect the unexpected. Even the covers he sings he makes his own and brings elements into the song that you would never expect. Most of his foreign language songs have English subtitles if you click on cc and sometime need to click on the gear to choose English. If they don't, if you put Dimash + title + Eng subs in the search box, you can usually find a version in English. He does sing songs in English as well, more and more in English while he tries to expand his audience to the U.S. He actually was NOT well known in China until he sang this song, his first, in the TV competition called "The Singer." He became an overnight success, needing a body guard.

Chinese show, he's from Kazakhstan, and he's singing in French. This was the first time most had heard him in China, as he was, up until then, only competed and become famous in and around Kazakhstan. But he had been seen and asked to come onto this program called I Am A Singer, expecting that he would be just amongst the contestants, but he became a sensation over night from that performance and almost won the competition. (should have won) Enjoy your dive into Dimash's world, you're in for an amazing ride! Always try and find videos with closed captions, as he sings in many different languages, I think the count is up to 14 or 15 now, he does not speak that many, maybe 4 or 5, but if told the phonetics of the words he can sing them no problem.
