@@themajicman745 I don't see him or any other backing vocalists credited on my copy of the Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway LP (despite an extensive list of session players), and can't find any copies on Discogs that show this info, either. I don't doubt that he worked on the LP, but the fact that his name wasn't a featured credit is probably why his collaboration with David Bowie is often credited as his "big break", since he arranged the backing vocals in addition to singing, and was involved in major TV performances and became a part of Bowie's international touring band in the mid-1970s.

Thank you for saying that! He gets zero mention for his introduction of synths into popular music.
@johncampbell756
@johncampbell756 Жыл бұрын
Les Paul created a massive amount, including multitrack recording. As for synths, the first one you could buy in a music store was the Minimoog. That was 1970. I'm not sure when Stevie first used a synth, but I keep seeing 1971, the same year as The Who. The Beatles used a MOOG on Abbey Road (1969) and, of all people, The Monkees had sythns on a record in 1967. All that said, no one in these bands mastered the synth the way Stevie did. And only Paul McCartney tivals his all around musical ability. Though, I'm mentioning these other people, I'm not trying to diminish Stevie. He just has some good company.
@keithroberts4952
@keithroberts4952 Жыл бұрын
@@johncampbell756 thanks for that John. For me, every artist you mentioned used the synth as additional embellishment which was great! However, stevie used the synthesisers to create whole bodies of work. He would play the drums, add probably Fender Rhodes or clavinet and have the synths add colour to the songs. Plus, he played moog bass as well. By the 80's a lot of r'n'b music became synth driven as they followed the sonic template pioneered by stevie. Part time lover is a great example of stevie as a one man band in action!

Everyone is listing great Stevie songs and all of them are great. My personal favorite is Sir Duke because it was in my teen years when it came out and it's just about all music in general and a tribute to the ones ahead of him. "Music is a world within itself With a language we all understand With an equal opportunity For all to sing, dance, and clap their hand"

One of my favourite Stevie songs!! I love the beat, the passion of his voice and that almost "scat" part between verses...... 'Sign, Sealed, Delivered' is another amazing track by the "Wonder" He also has a great duet with the one and only Paul McCartney called 'Ebony & Ivory' definitely hope you get round to hearing that track.👍👍👍

When I saw what song it was I hoped you had the extended mix that starts and ends with Luther Vandross scatting. This was a pretty good album. He and Luther must have coordinated these albums. When he put this out in 1985, Luther had "When My Baby Comes Home" at the same time; the next two singles were Luther's "It's Over Now" and Stevie's "Go Home." Coincidence? 🤨😄 And that vocal is scatting -- and it's Luther Vandross!
