Not sure if you check this anymore, since this video is 9 years old, and your last upload was 5 years ago, but this is a really good video. Short and to the point, with helpful graphics. Not too simple, not too complex in your teaching. Thank you.

Since both prostaglandins and histamines are secreted in cases of injury, ( or are they released in different typed of injury), how does the body know when yo release one and inhibit the other or are they released synergistically
@DietArchitect8 жыл бұрын
You seem to be saying that a prostaglandin is involved in generating histamine. Prostaglandin PGE2 prevents histamine release in the mucosa, thus protecting it from histamine-induced injury and ulcers, so I was wondering which prostaglandin you were referring to.

what about IAA? in the book it says that it elongates cells in plants but in some past papers it says it inhibits cell elongation
@MrPollockBiology8 жыл бұрын
+ojamamask IAA stimulates cell elongation in the shoots, but inhibits it in the roots.

Question: What is the difference between chemical mediators and hormones? How do they target the cells they affect?
@MrPollockBiology9 жыл бұрын
vOzyv Hormones are a type of chemical mediator; at 0:53 the diagram shows 'enodcrine'...which is hormones...essentials hormones act over a longer distance...secreted by a gland, travelling in the blood to target organs further away. These target organs have receptors..the action is explained in this video.... Hormones & Blood Glucose Hope this helps.

so easy when explained this way! I read 2-3 texts that I understood nothing of .

Is not a major function of prostaglandins to induce smooth muscle contraction such as menstruation and child birth labor?

Can we say that they way anti inflammatory and anti histamine drugs work is by competitive inhibition? By blocking receptors or the site??

aspirine decrease the blood pressure but ibuprofen does not although they act by the same mechanisim???? can you tell me about this ?? thank you for vidio ^_^
@MrPollockBiology10 жыл бұрын
Realistically all NSAIDs will have a small effect on blood pressure; they actually raise it! But aspirin in low doses can produce the effects as discussed in the video. In addition to this, in low doses, aspirin lowers he chance of clotting, thus lowering heart attack or stroke risk. It should also be mentioned that people who are taking specific medication for hypertension, should avoid taking most NSAIDs because they interfere with the mechanism of action.

yes NSAIDs make hypertention medication less effective especially ibuprofen ... thanx for explanation
