Histogram Explained

A histogram is related to a bar graph and is meant for quantitative data (number data only instead of word data). A histogram is constructed by drawing a rectangle for each bin. Bins are intervals of equal width that cover all the values that were observed in the x-axis.

So the same steps apply with bigger data? I came across a set with about 60 NUMBERS! Do I just do the same steps or is there a simpler way?

You have to put this into context. Most statisticians do not do stats with pencil and paper anymore (only first year college students). All most everyone uses statistics program like statcrunch.com, SPSS, Statview, SAS, etc. People also use Excel as well. Another way of seeing the data is to use a stemplot: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bmScgK1-fth8Y6c

+Asmaa Wasfy That is a good question. First find the smallest number. Then round down. So, for example, if your smallest number is 2, then your first class would be zero. Or, if your smallest number is 103, then round down to 100 that would be your first bin (in this case, zero would be to far away). Let's say you have a small number like 57. Depending on the other numbers, you might round down to 50, so your class will be by 10s or round down to 0, where your class size would be 100.

the it is depend on my choice and there is no rule force me to select the beginning of first class .as you say if the smallest number is 105 i could choice 101 or 102 or any number less than 105 right .please help me tomorrow i have a class and i supposed to explain histogram and i search a lot and did not find an answer

+Asmaa Wasfy Ok, I get it. The reason you round to a "nice" number like 100 or 0 is because it is easy to create your bins. Say, you have test scores that go from 3% to 98%, then you would round down to 0% and do your class sizes by 10%. Now can you start at 3% or 2% or 1%, sure. But, starting at 2% is awkward, why? Well if you do bin sizes of 10, then if you start on 2%, your bins will be from [2%, 12%), [12%, 22%), [22%, 32%) and so forth until [92%, 102%). These bins are harder to create, but this is still valid. So when I say, to round down to 0, in this example, then your bin size will start at: [0%, 10%), [10%, 20%), [20%, 30)......[90%, 100%)
