I proudly served in SAC while stationed at Loring AFB in northern Maine - from '76 through '80.

I was and still am proud to have served with the 92d Security Police Squadron at Fairchild Air Force Base from December 1977 to June 1982. We had the B-52G and Kc-135A on 15 minute ground alert. We were tested in all weather and anytime of day to make sure we were ready to strike if we needed to do so. We had a large weapons storage area built by the department of energy back in 1952, a bomber alert area and a tanker alert area close to the runway. We also knew we were a sitting target by Soviet Subs if our aircraft launched!! We collectively with all other SAC units won the cold war!!! It is May 2022, I am still very proud of my service with SAC!

Interesting to see Gen Chain wearing crew blues. I spent 378 alerts in Titan II and Minuteman III from 1984 to 1990, and was a proud member of the SAC alert force. Thanks to all my fellow missileers and those associated with the alert mission, we kept America safe. Major Mark Clark, USAFR Ret
