I really, really wish another publisher and studio took a shot at the modern military, combined arms shooter, which includes land, sea and air vehicles, destruction in an easy-to-approach gameplay format (I am not talking about squad in other words). A casual combined arms shooter for the masses. I am actually very surprised there is not. There still is nothing really like battlefield. Even a bad battlefield game. If there was a serious contender in this genre, I think we would all benefit.

I mean at this point Delta Force: Hawk Ops, BF2042 and likely BF2025 and CoD 64P Ground War play all the same at this point and that's the main problem. Run and gun combat on bigger maps which really asks "what's the point aside from hectic and chaotic messes that give a dopamine rush?". I think someone needs to make a more tactical but accessible 64+ player approach and look at BF2 & 2142 (but with better gunplay, QoL innovations since mid 00s etc). Baldur's Gate 3 by all accounts last year was a more "niche" game but then blew up in popularity, the idea a slower tempo larger scale AAA shooter can't do well is for the birds (though RPGs don't have a FPS Influencer cohort who hate anything that isn't like MW2 2009 basically).

@@eagleyezxgamingbeen saying this for a while now. I really really really wish they’d release a BF4 remastered. More or less do it like MCC did where they just overhaul the graphics but leave the gameplay the same, minus small additions like an FOV slider controller binding options etc. That would FLY off the shelves and be populated for the next decade with a consistent player base of 250,000+

And EA wants to have another mainline entry in the series AND run a BR next to it? DICE has already proven with 2042 that they can't keep up with the vast amount of content needed to run a successful live service game. If the next BF title is a live service game, I'm out. To pay $70+ for a game that will get dripfed content is asinine and bound to fail....again. I'm sure with the next BF title I'll have to wait a solid year after launch before even considering playing/purchasing it. Business as usual at EA.

season 6 was a joke, those skinny naked junkie zombies were playable for what 2 weeks then never seen again, totally removed. season 7 have 2 new maps, one of which is an old area from a map that they were too lazy to move 300 feet closer. They just buffed tanks by nerfing sundances c5 and are now adding more super OP air vehicles.. the decisions made by dice are as brain rotting as seeeing the same characters on both sides over and over and over and over again.

As someone who was very active in the 2042 pre-release hype era, I think that this is probably going to be the last game in the franchise. If there's any silver lining in these reports, its that maybe, just maybe, this will get DICE to focus on building a smaller game and therefore be able to craft it better, but I doubt that. At least the team will have had 4 years to develop the game, but in my eyes that's a lot more concerning than promising. Regarding 2042, I have a feeling that the content drip will finally stop this summer (a la BFV), thereby giving us nearly 18 months without any new BF content.

They're going back to the original COD clone plan that 2042 was supposed to be, minus the specialist system. They know that won't fly and can still be done with class skins instead. 2042 is purely existing to build out the skins mtx system and beta test features they want to introduce to the next title. While Frosbite can be difficult to work with, the main issues that plagued 2042 development are gone. I still see them delivering a safe class based BF game. But the questions will be will they up the content as offered in 2042 for the next game? Will they focus on the main game first then offer the F2Play WZ clone post launch? Or will their greed for that WZ money push them to try and do it all at once and dilute both offerings at launch? I think they want it all and can't fathom that delivering the core experience first will allow the BR to be a success if done right.
