One thing that doesn't get nearly enough credit on BF1 is it's soundtrack. It completely changes the game. It makes it more emotional, more immersive and give the game the sense of gravity and respect that any portrait of WW1 should have. Truly amazing soundtrack, maybe the best ever in a game.

Audio design was one of the most overlooked aspects of this entire review / documentary tbh. I didn’t hear it really get acknowledged all that much. And it’s not just BF1 which shines in the audio department. But it is a standout. I think the roar of the jets in BF3 and BF4 has been lost in BF2042. They no longer generate that powerful sound like they used to. It’s one of the several things that makes 2042 feel like a shell of a BF game to me. The taming of the destruction system is another reason.

The personnel at dice are extremely left wing nowadays. They love turning their nose up at the "little people" that buy their games and preach to them to not buy their game. They also think that gamers are little kids that need to be coddled and games should be a "safe space" with no scoreboards. Apparently the world will be ravaged by climate tornadoes in a mere 21 years. Apparently our player avatars can't be interesting and humorous characters and instead we need representation including an old woman that wouldn't last 10 seconds on a battlefield. Unless the old devs come back, battlefield has no chance to be good and is just name recognition at this point.

My friend who lived on my street had BF2 on PC, I loved it. I only had a Playstation 2 so I got BF2 Modern Combat and put so many hours in, got a headset and joined my first clan hooking it up with an Ethernet Cable. I still talk so some of them gamers over 15 years later and went from PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5 and PC. Gaming community, I love you, it’s us, who make these games what they actually become. Moments and memories.

Thank you for this fantastic video, it brings so many fond memories. The amount of work put into this is greatly appreciated by the community! I seriously believe the BF2 was the highpoint of the series. Its main focus was teamplay, something that has never been recreated since, at least not to the same level. To succed, you had to have a team, and each member was important. That was elevated by the specialized class system (now, I guess joining sniper and specops into recon makes sense, but joining engie with antitank is baffling, let alone support with assault). Since BF2, every game was getting closer and closer to a collection of 'one-man army' characters on the same server, with 2042 being the ultimate expression of that. Not only was it great at rock-paper-scissors, but it was greatly asymmetric, with different weapons and vehicles for every faction, which also had different stats. And boy, the Special Forces expansion must be the single greatest expansion in history of FPS games. I really think the next Battlefield game should be a thorough remaster of BF2 with its expansions included. Without any features or mechanics gone, just with improvements or features from later games added, such as level destruction, weapon customization or so on...
@Nick9302 жыл бұрын
Would certainly be an amazing game, but it will absolutely never happen. As great as BF2 was, it sold terribly when compared to the likes of Battlefield 1 (or even Battlefield 2042). Yes, gaming was smaller back then, but even relative to its time, BF2 did not sell nearly as well as say, Call of Duty 2. At the end of the day, they are a business. There's thousands of people involved in making these games now, instead of only a few hundred, so there's so much more on the line. You won't get those classic experiences unless a dedicated team of fans creates a spinoff inspired by those classic experiences. "Ready or Not" for example, is built by fans desperate for SWAT 5. It's nearly identical in every way to SWAT 4's gameplay systems, but with better graphics, mechanics, and control.

@@Nick930 Very good point. I love more team-based experiences, so right now I'd rather play something like Squad rather than BF2042.

@@avatar94100 There's never a real end to a game franchise. Call of Duty was considered beyond saving only a few years ago. But CODMW2019 totally transformed public opinion and the series has never been more popular, even if Cold War and Vanguard weren't nearly as strong. Tony Hawk Pro Skater was beyond saving.. but Tony Hawk 1+2 sold more than any other game in the franchise! (And it better get a sequel.. because I freakin loved it) And now Splinter Cell.. a game long thought to be totally dead.. is FINALLY getting a remake after all these years. Maybe it will bring THAT series back from the dead? Battlefield can always make a comeback as it has done MANY times already. Bad Company 1 when it released seemed like the end of the "Golden Era" for battlefield before... then we got Battlefield 3 (and BadCo2) soon after.

Outstanding documentary! I must admit , I started playing since BF 1942, but the one that really got me lovimg Battlefield was Modern Combat for the Xbox. I played until the servers were no longer supported, and thus, was part of a small tight-knit community that played nearly daily. On the last day of play, all the regulars and veterans msgd each other thanking each other for years of fun and great experiences. There was something about Modern Combat that made the fights so engaging and immersive, (once you really knew what you were doing, everyone had great teamwork). I've never seen such consistent amount of cooperation, synergy, and collaboration in gaming, and I've played alot of games that focused on teamwork and communication. It was very competitive. Right now I'm still playing Battlefield 4. While it rivals the experience I had in Modern Combat all those years ago, the level of teamwork and community is nowhere near the same. Maybe if I joined a clan, I'd be singing a different tune. But with Modern Combat, players had clan-level teamwork down without the need of being in a dedicated clan. At least in the final days of it. Like this comment if you agree! I'm curious how many felt the same.

It felt like there was a total conversion for anything you could ever want in 1942. Even to this day, i've never seen a game with a modding community that was so varied and thorough. You could look up a list of dozens of mods, download a few GB file, drop it into the mods folder, and essentially have a brand new game to play.

@@ElectTheDead78 oof yeah sadly, especially if you still don't have the new consoles (I remember having issues playing on servers with my ps4 on BF1 when BF5 was free to get on playstation plus. I had to look online to see how I can still play BF1 due to this so I cannot imagine how it is currently if I had issues back then) its a shame but sadly very common.
