One thing that doesn't get nearly enough credit on BF1 is it's soundtrack. It completely changes the game. It makes it more emotional, more immersive and give the game the sense of gravity and respect that any portrait of WW1 should have. Truly amazing soundtrack, maybe the best ever in a game.

Audio design was one of the most overlooked aspects of this entire review / documentary tbh. I didn’t hear it really get acknowledged all that much. And it’s not just BF1 which shines in the audio department. But it is a standout. I think the roar of the jets in BF3 and BF4 has been lost in BF2042. They no longer generate that powerful sound like they used to. It’s one of the several things that makes 2042 feel like a shell of a BF game to me. The taming of the destruction system is another reason.

The personnel at dice are extremely left wing nowadays. They love turning their nose up at the "little people" that buy their games and preach to them to not buy their game. They also think that gamers are little kids that need to be coddled and games should be a "safe space" with no scoreboards. Apparently the world will be ravaged by climate tornadoes in a mere 21 years. Apparently our player avatars can't be interesting and humorous characters and instead we need representation including an old woman that wouldn't last 10 seconds on a battlefield. Unless the old devs come back, battlefield has no chance to be good and is just name recognition at this point.

I really appreciate this 4.25h long recounting of battlefields history, been with it since 1942 and every edition since. To me, BF4 was everything I ever wanted in a multiplayer shooter. Modern contemporary setting, jaw dropping visuals, wide open areas, chaotic smaller areas, and unlocks for years. However, I feel the video was a lot more apologetic to 5 and even 2042 though it was still pretty young. Didn’t even really touch on the extreme community back lash of the Specialists on 2042, the extremely low concurrent player counts of BFV or even the rocky PR pushbacks, heck didn’t even really get into the thing where EA pushed the microtransactions fiercely in response to how successful FIFA Ultimate Team was, wildly damaging not only the reputation of battlefield over the years but informing entire design aspects of the games around how best to entice cosmetic purchases. Heck didn’t even touch on Battlelog and how you had to launch into games through a website with BF3 using a browser plugin lol We didn’t talk about ESN or any of the companion app stuff either unfortunately.

Outstanding documentary! I must admit , I started playing since BF 1942, but the one that really got me lovimg Battlefield was Modern Combat for the Xbox. I played until the servers were no longer supported, and thus, was part of a small tight-knit community that played nearly daily. On the last day of play, all the regulars and veterans msgd each other thanking each other for years of fun and great experiences. There was something about Modern Combat that made the fights so engaging and immersive, (once you really knew what you were doing, everyone had great teamwork). I've never seen such consistent amount of cooperation, synergy, and collaboration in gaming, and I've played alot of games that focused on teamwork and communication. It was very competitive. Right now I'm still playing Battlefield 4. While it rivals the experience I had in Modern Combat all those years ago, the level of teamwork and community is nowhere near the same. Maybe if I joined a clan, I'd be singing a different tune. But with Modern Combat, players had clan-level teamwork down without the need of being in a dedicated clan. At least in the final days of it. Like this comment if you agree! I'm curious how many felt the same.

This video is extremely informative, the entire 4 hours captivated me, as I am a big fan of this entire franchise. I started playing Battlefield with 1942 playing on my grandfathers old computer around when Battlefield 3 had came out, and I remember seeing the trailers and such for that game and thinking how awesome it would be to fly a Super Hornet instead of a Spitfire, which at the time I was also watching Battlefield Friends and watching Levelcaps loadout series, I have played pretty much every Battlefield game to some extent with few exceptions, and now that I am playing Battlefield 2042, I once again wonder which direction the series will take next, I hope it is another unique but nostalgic experience.

What's such a bloody shame is that players for YEARS have asked for 128 player servers. All the way back from Battlefield 2. Experiments were done with Forgotten hope, Project Reality, AIX mods etc. with 100 - 150 player servers. Even Venice unleashed and Project Rome experimented with this (there were also hacked servers in Battlefield 3's beta with 128 players and it was fucking glorious). Then when we finally got it in Battlefield 2042, it was so poorly implemented with the bad map design with wide-open spaces lacking cover, that people prefer 64 players (and still hate the map design). That's also ignoring the plethora of other issues with 2042. It was supposed to be building on top of what made all the other Battlefield games great, the class structure and balance, the destruction, the movement mechanics, the vehicle customization and gameplay, the commanders, the buildable structures, the variety of weapons and depth of customization.... all became a part of the formula. More than half of those things don't even exist anymore. Not even a fucking spectator mode! Not even a damn score board to see who's doing well or who's doing TOO well and potentially hacking (there is a vibrant hacking community in 2042 as well... but you wouldn't know!) Also some of the design choices in Battlefield Vietnam made it over to Rising Storm 2 Vietnam with the tunnels as spawn points. It's amazing to see how far the influence for these titles reach
@krishutch3d3 жыл бұрын
Bad map design is a serious understatement. Bad textures, flat models, limited destruction, empty spaces, ugly and pointless spaces, lack of objects, flat 2D design, no interesting connections, no lanes, etc
@TheScure3 жыл бұрын
BF1942 had 128 servers, it only had to have a server side tweak for it and it worked pretty well

This video gave me some serious nostalgia!! However, the whole time I couldnt help but get depressed thinking about 2042... They have removed so many core elements that made BF what its always been. I mean, the specialists, lack of squads, scoreboard, and classes, no VOIP, chatting with the enemy team, etc. I mean, you look back at even BF3 and BF4 and they had such better damage models and gameplay/QoL features. I really hope DICE sees this... They have always been the "chosen ones" in my opinion. BF is by far my favorite FPS franchise. I really hope they rediscover the passion/roots that made BF what it was, and fix 2042 to make it what it should be. Thanks for the video!!

Whilst I didn't have a PC capable of running 1942 when it released, I remember playing it at a friend's house, and all most players were doing was camp the plane spawn points, and then ram ground vehicles into planes before they could take off so they'd respawn and they'd have a chance to get in. Vehicles and especially planes in games were mindblowing and everyone wanted to have a go. Fun times.

Battlefield 2 came out at a time where I was too young to be allowed to play shooters. I remember downloading the demo copy of the game that I would be able to sneakily play without my parents ever knowing. I probably played that demo, with its one and only map being Gulf of Oman, for 4 years. 4 years my only experience with first person shooters was that demo (and some of the old Star Wars shooters). It was an amazing time, gaming was so novel to me back then. Good memories and I am glad to say I have been with this series ever since. Even with some low points for the series as of recently.

@@ElectTheDead78 oof yeah sadly, especially if you still don't have the new consoles (I remember having issues playing on servers with my ps4 on BF1 when BF5 was free to get on playstation plus. I had to look online to see how I can still play BF1 due to this so I cannot imagine how it is currently if I had issues back then) its a shame but sadly very common. I think on pc you might be luckier? I hope maybe they can still be active the servers because they are really great games but their newest game is the main focus naturally.

2042 is so bad that it has less player numbers than BF1. BF2042 is on 4k players on steam BF1 is on 6k players on steam haha. I personally loved BF1, yeah it didn't portray WW1 as authentic as Verdun may have done, but it was good enough, especially the campaign sold WW1 vibes. I still don't understand how EA doesn't understand that they should just listen to what players want kekw
