Yes but it was supposed to be a new Need for Speed game, not designed with the same core tenants as a Burnout game. With that said, Criterion is no longer the same Criterion that made the Burnout series so at this point it's somewhat moot to talk about them in their current state. However, there are developers out there that could take the reins of the Burnout series.

Burnout Paradise's still a masterpiece. Played it with the 360 for a ton of time and i still play it on steam. I roughly finished the game a dozen times. You can blame the franchise for its lack of story or lore or anything like that, but the gameplay was just an example for any arcade racing. Who knows, we might get a sequel to Paradise :D

I like playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Need for Speed Rivals as spiritual successors with nicer graphics to Burnout since they didn't continue the IP. I do like how they outsourced those games to Criterion, they knew that they had to get the best of the best to overseer the project especially since the focal point is crashes in Racers vs Cops context.

according to rumors, they no longer continued to make more Burnout titles because Criterion preferred to make other titles and games. but it is not known why more titles of the saga were not made, and that the ones that are already made are better left.

The rise in popularity of having real life licensed vehicles in racing games was the downfall of the arcade racers IMO. Certainly, franchises like Forza Horizon have done alot with the concept, but having fictional cars allows for so much more freedom. Im STILL waiting for an arcade racer that can follow up the awesome car carnage of Burnout Paradise. Its a shame Criterion got bought by EA and shackled to the NFS franchise. It was a last ditch attempt by EA to save its flagging racer brand, but it was beyond saving. In short, yea....we need a new Burnout. 13 yrs is too long
