The “One day George decided to change his mind about Maul’s death” reason is that in George’s original sequels, Maul would come back in Ep9, but when Disney released their sequels and George saw they weren’t going to do his sequels, he told Dave to bring him back in Clone Wars. The reason George originally told everybody Maul was never coming back was so that it would be an actual surprise. George was officially working on Episode 7 before he sold Star Wars, and Disney said “Yeah we’ll make your movies” but then didn’t really at all.

Because I wanted to get caught up before the Ashoka series came out. I watched the clone wars and Rebels in full. Boy am I glad I did...Darth Maul became my favorite character and although I understand the logic behind how he was killed off...I hated It!! I find him way more interesting than Vader

Maul's death in Rebels is one of the best scenes in Star Wars history! I think Kenobi told him the truth to give him hope... since Maul was a victim of the dark side, he was drowning in his need for revenge.

I can see where you're coming from but personally I feel like he wasn't nerfed rather they showed what time has done to him. Maul is powerful but the power difference between him and the people he fought in rebels is shown. Alot of stuff comes from his mindset at the time. Maul is smart and tactical but you can really see when he's thrown off balance by something going wrong or him giving in to his rage and hubris instead of taking the tactical approach. That's why he loss to Snips and furthermore lost to Kenobi and Obi-Wan very clearly played Maul. Even if Maul hadn't been tearing himself up unnecessarily while trying to find Kenobi he still would have played right into his hands because he's a great character but an EXTREMELY flawwed one.

Even if canon is all that is being talked about, credit has to be given to Exar-Kun for invention of the dual bladed lightsaber. The Maul v Ahsoka lightsaber fight is the best duel in all of SW with Sidious v Maul/Savage being second. Ahsoka v Clones would be 3rd for sure.
