Crafty ones steal someone's entire character arc, masquerade as them, and then almost get away with tricking their entire family to do their bidding. Why is no one talking about how this “higher plane” could have something to do with Athena in GOW 3? When she died, didn’t she come back as a specter from a higher plane? Odin also said that a woman came to him in his dream and told him of the mask. Couldn’t this woman be the spectral Athena? This could be part of the bigger overall story and could be expanded on in the next games. Since kratos is no longer a god killer looking for vengeance but is instead a protector, this could be a good reason for his story to continue. If he wants to protect his people, he’ll have to go to other lands and figure out the mystery of this “higher plane”.

I do dislike the turn the 616 character has taken of late, whether true to the myths or not, but here it fits perfectly. Growing up between two extremes of hell, he and his brothers (no real mention of their fates) feel the need to forge a new world, but having done so, feel entitled to it. From there, everything proceeds and if the being who gave them life could be sacrificed and displaced, then no one else is sacrosanct. There is a school of thought that says loyalty in a hierarchy should only flow upwards, but inherent in that is that the subject is granted protection and sustenance. We may compare this Odin to a mob boss, but the primal Mob Boss of all fiction, Vito Corleone, would view him with disdain. "Your power I acknowledge. I would have to be a fool not to. But you are also a fool, Lord Odin. I too have dead and lost children, but not by my choice. Your lands do not prosper under you. You look to masks, and peep-holes for answers, when they are all about you. I had a Kratos, named Luca Brasi. I made him my left hand. I had a volcanic son, named Santino, and he himself was a hammer, till broken by his own heat. You may erase me at your whim, even make people forget me. But you will erase yourself, and people will choose to forget you. You say there is a fated day your enemies will gather against you? My last words to you are this: That day is always coming, and it will come again."

That realm tear Odin is obsessed with is about us
@thrindel Жыл бұрын
Spoiler for the end of God of War: Ragnarok Theory: I am predicting that the green scar..... is connected to the “higher plane of existence” that Athena “Ascended” to after her death in God of War III. A few bits of dialog keyed me into this train of thought. 1st: Odin questioned what sort of afterlife awaited him after his death and looking into the green scar gave him some insight. I believe he was looking into the realm of “higher existence” that Athena occupies (possibly) to this day. (She was defiantly present to pull the sword from Kratos at the end GoW3) 2rd. Odin in the game is the closest match to a God of wisdom much like Athena. I believe had Odin stayed on a virtuous path he would have “Ascended” beyond the green scar to the “higher plan of existence” naturally. However, unlike Athena when Odin was confronted with a glimpse of the realm beyond, he became obsessive and destructive. Odin is an example of the kind of damage a wise person can do with a lack of empathy. As he stated in the fight when Atreus (Loki) destroyed the mask, “Everything I worked for. Everything I killed for….. what was it all for” he justified all the evil acts and manipulation of others as the cost of seeking “truth and knowledge”. Ultimately, (if the theory that Athena ascended because she sacrificed herself for the greater good” this evil obsession would have possibly led to his rejection from “higher existence” (aka the loss of an eye). Minor other points: As it stands there is a plot hole on why the Mask reacted to Garm in Helheim even though no mask fragment was present. If the prediction is that the Green Scar is a tear in existence to a “Higher Plane” my prediction is that Garm was the one who made the tear. Garm’s ability to traverse and tear holes win the realms is second to none. Who knows the scars he ripped open in the world tree before being chained in Helheim. It may even be possible that Gram’s soul may have unintentionally crossed over to the “high existence” leaving his soulless body behind. Mask could be reacting to any number of Gram’s connections to “higher existence”. (Not to mention the game points out the difference between primordial beings and gods much as the original trilogy did) Both Athena and Odin wanted Knowledge in order to rule over the land. Odin lied to himself thinking he could make the 9 realms a better place with what lies beyond the tear and Athena in her “ascended state” stated, “mankind was ready to hear her message and mankind would not know what to do with it (hope)”. In the end, both seemed to have delusions that they were the fittest to rule over all.

Odin may be the chief of the Aesir, ever questing for knowledge... I like how Santa Monica explored just how high a body count, and how low a person's sanity, could climb in pursuit of knowledge. It was interesting to see Loki and Odin's "blood brothers" relationship from the myths played out as "fellow scholars, despite their differing intentions". In either case, I remember Odin forgave Loki all his mistakes and dangerous mischief because of the challenges he presented to the All Father, the new ways of thinking and clever plots Loki crafted to get the Aesir out of many dire straits. Asgard's Wall, "Freya's Unusual Wedding", and the creation of Draupnir and Gungnir (among other gifts) are but some of the myths where Loki gets ultimate credit for making sure the Aesir are secure in their rule... only Santa Monica rearranged them a little to showcase the Aesir's predilection for deceit, bloodshed, and belligerence. With Marvel's version of Loki being the one most people think of when they hear "trickster god" or "silver tongued liar", maybe "bringer of death", they forget that all of these titles can/have been applied to Odin mythology. I knew from when he walked into Kratos' house, he was looking for a fight, anticipating the destruction to come, keen to weave elaborate games of deception for players to unravel (or fall into). I knew the Noose with runes on it for EXACTLY what it was when Freya and Kratos found it; it is the reason why Odin is considered a DEATH god, among other kinds of god he is, since he sacrificed himself (to Yggdrasil and to himself) in pursuit of knowledge. This could be seen as either "creative and unusual punishment" or "desperation for knowledge that supersedes any living being"; Santa Monica brought BOTH aspects to their Odin's cruelty. I hate him, I admire him, I knew to NEVER trust him when I first saw him. What a marvelous villain!

Odin is exactly the god we needed after the Greek Saga. Zeus was awesome, but making a repeat character would only make a worse Zeus. Zeus is force of nature that is tremendous powerhouse of strength. Odin is a deceitful master tactician whos strength lays in knowledge and intelligence. A master manipulator who makes you and your friends doubt themselves and strike at the perfect timing. Odin fooled everyone in the room and instigated chaos from within without most people questioning it. The only person that noticed "Tyr" being weird was Brok. He lives by gut feeling without questioning it and that approach was the only approach immune to Odin's Deception. Brok was the only one who put a halt to Odin's nearly perfect plan, and its even more poetic that draupnier spear that he blessed was the thing to catch the mask. The only reason why his near perfect getaway fell apart was a dwarf he considered insignificant.

Think of it like Odin being Batman and Zeus being Superman. Sure the latter's more powerful and has feats where he slams Gods into the Sun, but give Batman prep time? He'll take down your entire empire. Odin's a more insidious villain because he acted like Tyr perfectly and tricked everyone with his hero's journey. If Brokkr wasn't there, they would've done exactly what Odin wanted. Willingly. He almost tricked the Ghost of Sparta, the genocidal killer of gods, the last Greek God, into being a "sacrifice" for his knowledge. That's something Zeus could've never done because he was too overt with his manipulation. Remember, the best criminals in life are the ones who were never found out.

@@GothaBillsAndDeath not to mention he's been watching and learning of the team's plan the entire game. He disguised himself as a dwarf, a dark elf and always had his raven around to keep one step ahead of everyone.

I thought in Ragnarok Odin implied that he went blind in that eye by peering into the rift without the mask on.

GOW Ragnarok was great. Even though they’re a lot of plot holes,Atreaus/Loki stole the show.

Tyr and Heimdall never stated to be Odin's kids, in the game at least
@jedinialfamuzjak Жыл бұрын
I mean, Odin doesn't like talking about Tyr, because he thinks he betrayed him, and he actually liked Heimdall.

But what happened to him? Did his soul get erased? Or did he go to the higher plain of existence like Athena go?

Are you sure it was Mimir's spiked well that made Odin lose his eye? Cause Odin said so himself that it was looking through the reality crack without the mask that took his eye, and he stopped Atreus from looking into the crack and showed his missing eye as a result?
@Facelessbuster Жыл бұрын
Yeah I’m confused by that too

Mimir comments about Odin's tale saying he's lying about that story after Atreus asks him about it.

9:55 So if Odin really lost his eye because he got high then how come in the game it’s implied that he lost his eye because he looked inside the fracture
@Facelessbuster Жыл бұрын
Maybe it was to better convince Atreus not to look into the fracture. Like it was alive to prevent the boy from seeing answers to something he couldn’t. I don’t know
@Prince__Teclis Жыл бұрын
Atreus can actually ask about why Odin has a different story and Mimir mentions Odin will lie about things even if they don't seem worth lying about.
@Starrky923 Жыл бұрын
I hated the plot twist reveal, it didn't make sense at all to me as Odin would also need to have ability to be in multiple places at the same time. While we saw Atreus in Asgard chilling with Odin, there was Tyr hanging out with like 3 other people in Sindri's house, it kinda ruined that for me.
@saboorheath7769 Жыл бұрын
The signs were there.... Tyr's early dialogue, the game mentions how comfortable he was in the broom closet, atreus walking with Odin while he's running "errands" to show you how quickly he can travel around the realm. The cutscene was a little sloppy tho

Could Kratos defeat odin 1v1? I think not, however Kratos with the weapons of multiple God's pretty much single handedly defeat Zeus. Is Odin stronger than Zeus?

Honestly I just wish we had gotten another game so we could have fleshed out the all father even more and thor as well, so in this game we could have taken on heimdoll and maybe hela as well in place of killing both thor and Odin, or they could have at least maybe made some dlc to confine their story so it was stretched out more, I really liked getting to know thor better and Odin and only wanted more of it, also better end fights for them as well, I get they didn’t have the budget or time for it in this game but again if they had made a third game they would have had the time and money to make more epic and separate end fights for the both of them, it’s just sad they felt they had to rush it all into one game instead of taking their time with it and making 2 banger games

So many people say that the Greek gods are ways more powerful than the Norse but you have to look at their magic manipulation - Especially with Odin! P.s We definitely need the Egyptian Gods next. It's going to be wicked!
