"Difficult to work with" is probably the biggest understatement I've ever heard. My grandfather worked on designs for a magnesium body aircraft. He said it was the single most frustrating thing he ever did. I think Jay Leno put it best. "It's not impossible to work with, but it's impossible to work with."

While styling of the Aerolithe is nice, what makes this car so appealing (for me) to look at is the workmanship, paint and color choice. Just a superbly well done job!! Note that whenever the engine is run, it probably should be run for 20 minutes to 1/2 hour in order to burn off condensation which will otherwise accumulate in the crankcase oil.

I'm not sure of the exact paint color but there was a painting of the car given to the founder of Bugatti that was this color (no color photos existed of the original) and the car's nickname was Creme De Menthe. On Jay Leno's garage they were discussing it.

with regards to the assumption of having the original car dismantled. This is an assumption. Needs to be proved. There is also an additional possibility that someone decided to keep the car in a garage and location still not available to the public. But then again is another assumption. Good marketing though.

An absolute fantastic re creation , unfortunately the use of Magnesium will mean this car will just crumble with 50 years.
@guildsgarage7 жыл бұрын
Quite right! In fact, we have found that the degradation of the unsealed Elektron is much faster than anticipated. For instance, we had to take extra steps to protect the bare alloy underneath of the hood as its exposure was starting to show signs of oxidization at a rapid rate. Thanks for watching.
@453421abcdefg123457 жыл бұрын
It would be a great shame if this work of art were to succumb to corrosion, I have Electron brake plates on a Vincent Lightning and they are now beyond saving, even after soda blasting and etch priming they are still corroding, trying to get back to oxide in the ground.
@guildsgarage7 жыл бұрын
An awesome bike! If there is enough of a pattern to go by, we can suggest a foundry that can cast the plates, which will require finishing, but will duplicate the originals for the bike and restore them to new condition. If you are interested in this please send an email to Projects@guildclassiccars.com
@453421abcdefg123457 жыл бұрын
Yes ! The only way to go, I made up patterns and cast them in LM21 (I think that is what I used), then heat treated them, and made jigs to machine them, the big problem I had was that others found out I was making them and I was inundated with requests, the project was very interesting with both front and rear brake plates as they are all originally made in Magnesium. The strange thing is that although the gearbox case on my Fergusson tractor is Magnesium it has not corroded any where near as much, they were Zinc Phosphated originally, the cases are very dark looking ,but sound. Good Luck with your projects ! Chris B.

Englishman French I used to maintain Light Attack aircraft at sea on the Flight Deck of Aircraft Carriers. Magnesium is one of our biggest headaches. Specially its unique burning charcteristics. Thats bad news in Carrier Aviation. The way uncle sugar long term stores his high mag content aircraft should offer some insight into similar for automobiles. Dry desert air and several copper ground straps.
