Thanks a lot ! All the information in in this video is right. Well done ! I remember the good old days battling against adrenelize's times which were so CRAZY no one would run against (everytime he beat a WR it was with a lot of new shortcuts and he did not only beat the WR, he smashed it !)... These were the best moments man.. Beating an adrenelize's WR was hard but I can tell you one thing, beating ISY's WR was MUCH harder ! Learning to perform new shortcuts and finding new ones was so much pleasure... I love this community so much

This is so nostalgic for me. Spent hundreds of hours running this game when I was younger, chasing the top ghosts. I think I once made top 20 on one of the Convoy trials. Good times :D
@Max35P4 жыл бұрын
This game just has the best movement a game EVER had by far... Even the glitches like the kickglitch fit so well and can be utilized with enough skill that you can do about everything with it. I will never be able to play another 1st-person parkour game and not feel disappointed by the unfluid movement they have compared to ME. Also really really interesting video, I enjoyed it and especially liked that it featured a time of ME speedrunning before I even got interested in it. Very informative :)
@pretzelbomb61054 жыл бұрын
I’ve played Catalyst but not the original, how did the movement hold up in the sequel?
@georgesomething4 жыл бұрын
@@pretzelbomb6105 More better than worse, I guess. It's kind of hard to compare ME vs Catalyst movement because while both have the same core principles they are different in feel due to the environments being different. ME had these more linear levels with more realistic detailing, the philosophy behind them was "let's create a cool environment to get trough and then add ways to get around it". There are a lot of small world details, like the antennas, that give you originally unintended options. Catalyst, besides being open world, or maybe because of it, is designed FOR the movement system, almost everything placed in the game world is there to be used in movement. And the open-world aspect ironically takes away puzzle options rather than adding them, though it is a general truism in games that individual levels tend to be better designed than open worlds. The overall flow of movement is certainly better, but some of it is needlessly locked behind a pointless skill tree. There is plenty of ways to use the movement system beyond it's intended capacity, just like in ME, which is good. The time trials are the ones that let you truly experience the movement to its maximum potential with true puzzle solving and leaderboards, but unfortunately the top places are occupied by either cheaters or glitchers (not entirely sure which) with 0.01 times, leaving a bad taste. But the trials are the ones that capture that true ME feel in Catalyst in my opinion. The real charm for me is still with the OG ME tho, because the more linear level design made you think more about how to break out of it, how to jump over the borders. And the fantastic thing is that the game lets you do that, there are barely any invisible walls or other artificial limiters, if you can figure out how to get over something, you will do it. There are slightly less movement options than in Catalyst, but you never feel like you are missing anything essential, you have all the necessary tools to do what you want and more. The movement is already so crisp and fluid for a 2008 game that most FPS games can't compete with it to this day. This whole thing is kind of a non-answer, so... Movement in Catalyst is optimized in most aspects, has some added movement techniques (mostly to cope with the open world, like grapple), but overall it isn't superior to original ME per se. It holds up well, doesn't tarnish it's predecessors reputation but also doesn't directly surpass it. A statement written trough nostalgia glasses.

Speedrunners need a game like this, that has fully controlled mechanics for speed boosts but that creates a random new map every time you play it. A part of life is that we do not know what is coming and adaptability represents how quickly you can change and continue to keep speed. A lot of this is grinding out a level until its just dead. I think if we could see how fast these guys could do a completely brand new level, yet they all do the same level would be awesome to see.
