I think it was in about the mid eighties, when I purchased two new SEV MARCHAL AMPILUX replacement headlights for my SUZUKI LJ80 4WD . I needed some good lights for night driving in the Australian outback. I regret to this day that I allowed myself to be talked into selling these, only to find out that SEV MARCHAL was no more. Now these were headlights, not ancillary lights. They were drop in replacements for standard 7 inch round headlights. The optics were state of the art. They had lead crystal lenses and separate precision reflectors for high and low beams. The high beam reflector was nestled in front of the low beam and was independently adjustable. They were absolutely incredible. The low bean had a wide spread, great for watching out for kangaroos that have a habit of jumping out in front of your vehicle and going postal on your radiator and anything else it can get it’s paws on before hopefully clearing the windscreen and landing unceremoniously behind you as the vehicle careers off into the scrub, leaving you stranded in the the middle of the desert where the temperature would climb to 48 degrees Celsius the next day and there was little chance of someone coming along to offer you a lift. And while the temperature plummets back again to minus 8 degrees you start to wonder why you just didn’t stay in bed and you start thinking things like, What the f#*k is Australia anyway ? Am I getting sidetracked? Oh yea, a wide spread and a very sharp upper cutoff to protect oncoming drivers or emus or whatever. the high beams however were something else. Everything in front of the vehicle was lit up like daylight for over 1600 metres (1 mile) down the track. To this day I have never seen automotive lights that could come close to the SEV MARCHAL AMPILUX.

I was once hooning about in my little red tractor out near munamura station, it was a very hot day and maby the heat was getting to me because I decided to remove the sway bar and it huffed and puffed and never started again. In an effort to recommence the honing I decided to install some sev marchal headlights but it still didn't start, I'm not happy.

I have the SEV Marchal 750 clear driving lights on my '84 AMC eagle sedan. Did install some yellow "selective yellow" H2 bulbs in them. They have a very impressive light output! Wish they continued making them!

Thank you very much for this two videos. Very instructive. I didn't know all the development behind the yellow colour. Very interesting. I own a spanish Jeep C101 Comando that came from factory with Cibié IODE 35. I always wanted a classic car with these fantastic yellow glass lights and I think they adds a very attractive look to the car.

Currently restoring a set of “magnum” 959 SEV Marchel , were working and in ok condition when I got them but have cleaned up very well! I am an avid hunter or unique and vintage lights but mostly KC brand so these are new to me and this video helped me understand more

During the early 80's, I purchased so many Cibie lights it was amazing. 35's,95's, 175's, had all the models. Favorite for me was the Osacr +. Also acquired many Hella models with the 2000 being my favorite. Now they all demand high prices, if you can find them new, they are VERY expensive. Loved their quality. Always wanted SEV Marchal models but finding a distributor was difficult as most sold Cibie instead.

Thanks for posting the KZbin video, very informative. I just removed a set of very nice SEV Marchal SF-S47 yellow fog lights from my MG TD as I replaced them with Lucas lights....just to be more British :-)

The S.E.V. Marchal got a good advertisement in 1975 French movie 'Pas de problème!' as well as Marlboro, Koni and several other companies 😂

I just found this great video while looking for some info on vintage Marchal lights...do you know the manufacture date ranges of the rectangular Marchal lights? specifically 740, 840, 940 and 740, 850, 950..especially the 859 clear lens driving lights. Trying to find the 'age appropriate' ones for my 70's VW bus.

I unfortunate don't have that information. I know the 850 series became available in the late 1960s to the early 1970s and was for sale till well into the 1980s. You could beat reach out to Mistermarchal on Instagram as he would definitely know this. He's a also active in Facebook and Twitter if you don't have Instagram.

Super Oscars for me. We used to run 4 x 100W (2 x driving lens plus 2 x pencil beam) across the front of our Datto 510. Still have a pair plus 2 x Oscars that I plan to fit on our Celica RA65.

Thanks a lot for all the info! I have a NOS pair of Marchal 810, a pair of Marchal 759, a NOS pair of Cibie Skipper, and I think the Cibie Airport series is mounted on my Fuego from factory. I have only one black Cibie cover for those, Is the one you show in your video for sale maybe? Greetings from the Netherlands :)

Thank you for the great complement! I think the last time I spotted a Diego must have been at least 5 or 6 years ago! Those are very rare cars nowadays. I'm sorry, but the covers are not for sale. It took me years to find these exact correct ones 😂

I love the Cibie 35! It has such a jewel-like quality. In America, it was all the rage during the 70's. Now it's pretty much extinct.
@JohnWick-yp7zm6 жыл бұрын
In the late 70's, Marchal came out with a compact lamp that was similar to the Cibie 35. It was called the Marchal 750. Ford USA offered it on some of their car models during the 80's. Maybe the 750 was only available in the USA?

Beste Art, Dank, boeiend!

Why fog lights had plastic covers?
@banpeinet3 жыл бұрын
Those plastic covers are meant to protect against rocks. As the lenses of these lights used to be made from real glass they used to be prone to cracking or getting rock chips
